#sBitx Idea for sBitx surround sound cw #sBitx

A friend of me developed a circuit board for surround sound cw.? It's pretty neat and as you tune past a station the cw goes from one ear to the other.? It gives another dimension to the perception of cw signals like I have not heard before.?
?With that in mind I was thinking that it would be fun if that could be implemented on the Sbitx. Looking at the schematic it looks like one channel of the codec is used for TX and one for RX.. so Mono only for the headphones. So a question for Farhan, if there is a redesign for the board would it be worth adding a switch so both channels can come out to the headphone during rx? Not that I have a clue as to how complicated the software would be to implement the filters necessary..... but just asking.??

Re: sBITX USB ro HDMI #sBitx

One of these plugs into the first (leftward, towards the board edge) micro-HDMI socket and converts to the large HDMI plug. The other has a HDMI socket that mounts to the chassis.

Transverter Location #ubitx #2meters

I'm setting up a 2 Meter transverter to my uBITX. My normal setup is:
1) uBITX
2)Nm0S 4-S Tuner
3) Antenna
My question is should the 2 Meter transverter go before or after the tuner??
The transverter has the coax going from radio to transverter then from transverter it has the HF Antenna BNC and VHF BNC.?
I have never used a transverter before and I don't know the proper location for it.?

Re: File /uBITX_6_N8ME_2_VU3GAO_Mods.zip uploaded #file-notice

Jack
I installed it (V6) using a new Nano and the first time had to choose Uno instead of Nano as the board (using Arduino IDE) and the "new" rather than "old" boot loader. ?When trying to upload as Nano, I got the sketch-too-big message but it was OK with the Uno setting. ?

Also, following Nitin's suggestion, I had to installed Ashar's original firmware first, then the N8ME/VU3GAO firmware, in order to clear the settings memory. Otherwise, when the original N8ME firmware had been on previously, I was getting gibberish over top the settings display. Since I was using a new Nano, while I had Ashar's original firmware on, I calibrated the touch screen because I could access the calibration by pushing the encoder. ?When I tried to install the new firmware without doing that, the display was frozen.

Ubitx V6 - WSJTX - Should my LCD screen on Ubitx be changing when I make changes of frequency and such on WSJT-X? #cat

Got?n8me_2_vu3gao_mods loaded and green CAT , the Test PTT turns red. But I don't see that as TX on the Ubitx, or anything on the Ubitx change. Any ideas or settings?

Just wanted to say goodbye to everyone, and enjoy ur sbitxes, and such. Im changing paths in my Amateur radio career.
Just going to buy USA made or make it myself.

Not to be insulting to others, and none intended, i was shocked when 3 USA kit dealers emailed me back when i asked to purchase some of their boards and kits.

:summary of cut and paste of all three mom and pop shops. wont name the shops, dont need to.
""However, given the low cost competition from outside the US, it is difficult for us to justify the expense of a large batch.
?
Here is one example:
?
We simply can not compete with this pricing and with recent supply chain issues and inflation, our costs have only increased.""

Meaning others have faster access to the chinese markets than USA markets.

So in order to be fair and support the small mom and pop shops, i wont be buying any radio kits anymore produced or designed outside the USA. Granted it limits my access to some kits, but I have a deep nawing feeling im doing myself right. Some may flame me but ohh well. to each his own.

Wish everyone good luck on the sbitx and the ubitxs too. I still own 3 ubitxs. but wont be purchasing more in the future. No offense to you Ashhar, you are a brilliant designer and buisness Man. A credit to the hobby.

good luck on all ur builds in the future and may you all keep the smoke in the pcb after building it . HI HI.

Hi Rolf,

You can do the \help and \h2 commands to see a list of commands. The commands I have added are on help page 2 (\h2).

I just did a push to git a few minutes ago updating the help screens, so if you did a git pull before, refresh your sbitx-k3ng code with another git pull¡

1) There are now \reboot and \shutdown commands. For those who may be using the software in a multi-user system in the future, there is a #define INCLUDE_REBOOT_AND_SHUTDOWN_COMMANDS that can be commented out to disable these commands from being available to the user. The two commands shutdown the transmitter and recording (if on), and save user settings prior to the shutdown or reboot. I may add some code later to also signal the Fldigi process to shutdown.

2) The \fc frequency calibration command now invokes a DDS retune so you can see the effects of the calibration immediately, without having to do an \f command after an \fc command as before.

I believe there are still issues with the \addcwpitch setting. I hope to look at this more in depth this weekend.

Re: day light again `inquiry

Temperature compensation is only part of the game.
The other was using a coil form with stable temperature characteristics
like ceramic.? Most ferrites and powered iron cores were to be shunned
or temperature stable mixes preferred,

Then the oscillator, many transistor designs were able to maintain 1hz
stability at fixed temperature.. Sieler and Vacker were especially good.
Reason is that the device be it JFET, MosFET, Bipolar all exhibit
parameter shift with temperature The more decoupled from the LC
the active device is the less it can alter the tuned circuit.

So to get a stable VFO you had to start with stable parts like COG or
better polystyrene.? Stable coils (Not toroids -7material is +30PPM)?
where some plastics are all over the maps for stability.? I'd note that
while varicap diodes are popular they are very temperature unstable
as well.

However with all that and good mechanical and thermal design its
possible to build very stable VFOs with modern parts and no
N750 caps.

Re: Calibration & filters #calibration #filters

I specify, I am currently working with a 12mhz SSB filter

Re: Calibration & filters #calibration #filters

Hello,
a little code reading before my question on value of frequencies

Code UBITX V4.3
The uBITX is an upconnversion transceiver. The first IF is at 45 MHz.
? ?The first IF frequency is not exactly at 45 Mhz but about 5 khz lower,
? ?this shift is due to the loading on the 45 Mhz crystal filter by the matching
? ?L-network used on it's either sides.
? ?The first oscillator works between 48 Mhz and 75 MHz. The signal is subtracted
? ?from the first oscillator to arriive at 45 Mhz IF. Thus, it is inverted : LSB becomes USB
? ?and USB becomes LSB.
? ?The second IF of 12 Mhz has a ladder crystal filter. If a second oscillator is used at
? ?57 Mhz, the signal is subtracted FROM the oscillator, inverting a second time, and arrives
? ?at the 12 Mhz ladder filter thus doouble inversion, keeps the sidebands as they originally were.
? ?If the second oscillator is at 33 Mhz, the oscilaltor is subtracated from the signal,
? ?thus keeping the signal's sidebands inverted. The USB will become LSB.
? ?We use this technique to switch sidebands. This is to avoid placing the lsbCarrier close to
? ?12 MHz where its fifth harmonic beats with the arduino's 16 Mhz oscillator's fourth harmonic
*/
// the second oscillator should ideally be at 57 MHz, however, the crystal filter's center frequency
// is shifted down a little due to the loading from the impedance matching L-networks on either sides
#define SECOND_OSC_USB (56995000l)
#define SECOND_OSC_LSB (32995000l)
?
?
//these are the two default USB and LSB frequencies. The best frequencies depend upon your individual taste and filter shape
#define INIT_USB_FREQ? ?(11998370l)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Code KD8CEC
.....
?#define SECOND_OSC_USB (57003400l)
? #define SECOND_OSC_LSB (33010400l)?
? //these are the two default USB and LSB frequencies. The best frequencies depend upon your individual taste and filter shape
? //Not used, Just comment (Default)
? #define INIT_USB_FREQ? ?(11996500l)
....

MY TESTS:
I made a model to test my 45MHZ filter with a nanovna (So i change the value of inductance and capacitors for maching (1.5 ?h and 8pf) on my homebrew assembly))
this gives:
Central frequency: 45.004280 MHZ
Low frequency at -3DB: 44.997900 MHZ approximately
High frequency at -3DB: 45.010480 MHZ approximately

My question:
function of the values (which are different) in the code v4.3 of the Ubitx and KD8CEC? and my filter frequencies description , what would be the 3 best values for USB freq, OSC USB and OSC LSB knowing that a priori they take into account matching ?
I would like to amend the code to that effect

Did you install a micro HDMI socket on the back of the case? I was having trouble finding one.

Re: Need replacement Raspberry Pi image

John,
if I may suggest, I would check the connection of the RPi4 and the digital module in your device.
Or I pull it out and plug it back in. Maybe it fell apart during shipping? Just a hint.
I don't have an sBitx, but I will monitor the developments and check on an RPi400.
I'm getting to know Raspberry until I get to it.
The point is that without hardware, the sBitx frame just flashes and disappears, although it does not freeze.
The image contains many options. Among them, it also recognizes the usb connection formatted for ntfs (I tried with a usb stick).
It has a scrot screenshot maker, but I put the GNOME screenshot because it comes up with the graphic window and I can call it up with a hot key.
I'm still getting to know the system. Oh, and I google a lot.

Use IDM Internet Download Manager or IDM Integration Module in your browser.
There is probably another download manager that can resume the interrupted download.

Re: Replacement Nano problem uBitx V6

Gary
Thanks for the tip - that did it. ?I put in Ashar's original firmware so that I could access the calibration via the push button in the encoder, calibrated the touch screen, and voila!

So to review for those who might be interested and haven't seen the whole thread. ?
I was using the following Nano so that I could solder the pins on the side of the board needed for the ubitx, but everything seemed to be locked up and the frequency display was all zeros.
ELEGOO Nano Board CH 340/ATmega+328P?

The solution:
1. I had to upload from the Arduino IDE with the new, not old boot loader, and as a Uno rather than a Nano.
2. I installed the original firmware so that I could calibrate the touch screen by pushing and holding the encoder.
3. Then I uploaded the firmware I wanted to use.
My next step will be to calibrate the BFO and frequency.

Again, thanks so much for the tip. I'm not sure why I didn't think of it but my old brain is getting foggy.
