day light again `inquiry

Question for those who might have an answer to this issue.? I noticed with my Daylight again build when listening to a strong CW signal (W1AW) or another strong signal, I hear the same station 39-40KHZ lower. For example, I zero beat W1AW and my frequency counter reads 7047. The other signal zero beat is 7008. The false signal is weak but is readable. I did a test with my signal generator and the input signal must be 300uv or higher to hear the other signal. I do not hear anything above the strong signal(s).?
I have been scratching my head trying to understand what could cause this. Stage isolation, Crystal filter, PTO/BFO harmonics or nature of the beast. Ideas?

What mic will work with the sbitx.

What mic will work with the sbitx ? brand and model? Also I am looking at just rewiring a mic but, I can not find a schematic for the microphone just the connector in the radio. Also please tell me what is meant on the print by
RN and TN at the J5 Mic connector? Sorry for the dum questions but I am new at ham radio.
Thank you.

Followed your instructions and I can now run your version or Ashhar's from icons. They are both working great.?

It occured to me that it would be nice if you could add a letter or date after the sbitx 1.1 on the display so as people bring up issues you know what version they are running. Or maybe there is some other command that could display this.

Thanks again for all your support!

Does anyone know if an agc for the V-6 will come available again soon? Not a big deal but would be nice to have.

Re: sBITX Homebrew Misadventures by K5ATG #homebrew #sBitx

C95 is an electrolytic capacitor. It has distinct positive and negative terminals, and must be installed in the correct direction. It won't work properly if the positive and negative terminals are reversed. A polarized electrolytic capacitor requires that the positive terminal ALWAYS be more positive than the negative terminal; it's typically?used in a circuit where DC bias makes sure that is the case. It has a diagram that distinguishes the positive and negative terminals.

C28 is a ceramic capacitor. It is not polarized; the two terminals are interchangeable, and either end can be more positive or more negative. Therefore it has a diagram where both terminals look the same. In the sBitx kit C28 is an SMD capacitor, though if you prefer to use a through-hole cap in your homebrew build you can do that. (Nowadays it's the same part in most cases. The multilayer ceramics that have a blue or tan rectangular-ish encapsulated section are actually SMD caps with leads attached to the ends! Only the round discs, which are mostly only used for low value capacitors nowadays, use the older method of construction.) If the capacitor is serving as a bypass for a complex IC, you'll usually want to stick with SMD parts because you can get them physically closer to the chip.

In most but not all cases, you can replace a polarized electrolytic capacitor with a non-polarized ceramic capacitor if a part of the correct value and voltage rating exists. (That has actually happened in the T41-EP project, another SDR. The schematic shows electrolytics in a couple of places where the published BoM uses ceramics; builders are using the ceramic capacitors in place of electrolytics.) Ceramics up to 10 microfarads are readily available now and inexpensive, and have replaced electrolytic capacitors in many products. Even higher values are available but only at low voltage ratings.

In many?cases you CAN'T replace a nonpolarized capacitor with a polarized electrolytic. Its frequency response is too limited, its leakage current is too high, or there is no DC bias in the circuit. Electrolytics are mostly pretty bad at bypassing RF, which is why you often see a large electrolytic and a smaller ceramic in parallel at the output of a power supply; the electrolytic takes care of filtering out low frequency ripple components, while the ceramic handles bypassing RF frequencies to ground.

Yes you are correct the + is the positive side of the electrolyte and the other is just regular cap . Only dumb questions are the one that's not asked 73 DE Kd9usk?

Re: Ubitx ver 3

I¡¯m planning on a 6 x 3 x 1.5 inch heatsink mounted with a brace and not changing any lead length on the fets. Leave them as is with mica TO-220 insulators and compound. ?I will work on cleaning up the output. Case fan too. The mike amp circuit needs some work as well. A Pelican case with a thin plywood front panel till I get everything worked out. Aluminum later. On the plus side receive is great. Not much output as stock on ssb even with a powered microphone. CW output is good. I have seen some if the posts about mike preamp resistance changes too. At least it¡¯s in the case and mounted. Heatsink is on the way. The Bitx 40 is almost done too.

Re: Ubitx ver 3

Heatsink for that level has to be BIG.? Say 2" x4" with 1" fins.
Devices need to have shortest leads possible and the heatsink must be
grounded so that means insulator kit.? Do not be surprised if the amp
goes unstable or blown devices I suggest at least several pairs till you
get it right.? Look up all TX mods.

Unless the LPF filter were modded (V3) it will be dirty.? Its really a
must fix.

Quiet 12 to 24V, I found several that looked the same one was quiet
the others were terrible. They had identical markings.

Good luck.

Re: Replacement Nano problem uBitx V6

Gary
I got sidetracked by other projects. ?Also, I'm planning to make an adapter so I can try other Nanos that have pins on the normal side of the board - I have at least one of those on hand.

I hadn't thought of the touch screen calibration issue though since the touch screen is unresponsive, I'm not sure how I'd get there. ?But this gives me something to think about.

Thanks
Howard

Howard,
Have you resolved your issue?? From everything you described.? It seems like calibration value issues.
The touch screen also needs the correct calibration values.? ?
