If it was me, I'd tie into the transmit relay coil, you only need a few milliamps of current for an led. What happens if the radio gets RF into it and locks up the PI? It might not indicate that the radio is in transmit when it really is. That and a time-out timer on the transmitter should be done in hardware, not software. I wonder how many here know that the version of Linux that is being used is NOT a real time operating system and will do little housekeeping jobs whenever it needs to. I hope this doesn't cause operational problems for the sBit. Max KG4PID

Re: Ubitx v3 & v5 - low vol on start +high pitch in speaker but not headphones
I put a 4.7ohm resisters in series with the speaker and no more oscillation. Volume is fine too. This is a V3 with the original "bad" TDA2822 still in it. Was planning on putting a socket and replacing it with a ST version I manage to fine. Will add that 100 ohm mod you suggested then.
Will probably just replace the 4 ohm speakers with an 8 ohm. Thanks again for the direction! 73 Mark AJ6CU |

Scott, i would just build a sensing circuit similar to an swr circuit. run a wire thru a toroid? with a few windings and feed it to a diode and maybe a resistor to limit current to light up a led on? transmission. That way you are not messing with the programming or the brains of the radio. just my take of it. 73 David ac9xh

Re: Ubitx v3 & v5 - low vol on start +high pitch in speaker but not headphones
Evan,
Will follow your suggestions! Probably try the resister in series with the speaker first and see if a higher impedance will stop the oscillation. If that works, will try the 100ohm 1/2 watt resister trick. BTW for yuks, I fed 6 volts in to Ubitx and still got the oscillation...?? I have one more 5" v4 to assemble. It had worked (with the typical lower out volume). Will be interesting if I make the same mistake yet a third time and get the same issue... 73 Mark |

Re: Ubitx v3 & v5 - low vol on start +high pitch in speaker but not headphones
Mark,
Yes, the 8kohms is what I measured in the circuit of a v4.? I do not have a v3 to test. The headphones are a much higher impedance.? Because of this, the amp will not be trying to deliver more power than it is rated to deliver. If you look at the TDA2822, the output is rated at 6volts, not the 12volts (or maybe 13.5volts) the way it is in the HFSignals circuit.? I would add a 100ohm resistor in series with the 12volt positive lead of the TDA2822.? There is a history of blowing this audio amp because of the power into the 4ohm load.? Adding the resistor was one of the suggested ways to prevent failure.? It has also been done for the LM386 replacement in the v5 and v6 boards. I have seen other amps go into feedback oscillation when the power out exceeds specifications.? Adding the 4ohm 1/2watt resistor to the output would cut the total volume.? Try on the speaker lead to see if that helps and if the resulting volume will meet your needs. Just suggestions. 73 Evan AC9TU |
Re: Ubitx v3 & v5 - low vol on start +high pitch in speaker but not headphones
Evan,
Thanks for the suggestions! Went down that path first. Even tried tried switching what I though was VOl-Hi and Vol-M, no change. When you are saying "8kohms between high and ground" are you talking in circuit? My (cheap) pots are showing 10.5k. The fact that the headphones which is driven by the same wiring doesn't show this problem is puzzling.? 73 Mark AJ6CU |
Re: Ubitx v3 & v5 - low vol on start +high pitch in speaker but not headphones
Hi Mark,
I would start by checking the wiring of the volume control.? Here are the "wire-up" directions for the uBitx that matches all pre-v6 models: If wired per the above, check your volume control; it has about 8kohms between the High and ground in the circuit in my v4.? I believe it is a 10k pot.? One of the volume control leads could be broken in the control. NOTE:? It is not apparent from the schematic that the volume control needs one of the leads connected to ground.? One side of the control to VOL-H, the other side to GROUND.? Wiper goes to the VOL-M. 73 Evan AC9TU |

Re: QR code and KD8CEC Memory Manager, "Error- data file is short"
Ulf,
The model of the Nextion screen that you listed is a 2.8nch Basic model.? You need to find an HMI or TFT file that matches a 2.8" basic Nextion. You should also note that the original files require an old version of the Nextion editor to compile successfully.? I believe this is due to added functionality in the base code loaded when the application is compiled that was not in the original editor.? On the Nextion site, the editor you want is called LTS.? Here is the link: The alternative is to use the TFT file for the correct model and follow the directions on the Nextion site to transfer to a microSD card. Try the above and let us know if that solves your problem. 73 Evan AC9TU |
Ubitx v3 & v5 - low vol on start +high pitch in speaker but not headphones
So, at least I am consistent...? Just finished assembling a v3 and a v5 this weekend. On start, get a high pitch sound (oscillation?) out the speakers if vol is fully counter clockwise. If vol is mid-way, just normal volume, and no high pitch sound. The speakers are nominally 4 ohms.
If i plug in my headphones (8ohms), a very short buzz and then normal volume control operations. Double and triple checked the vol-hi + vol-mid wiring, and even switched them, no change. The switch between headphones and speaker is typical mechanical based on the 3.5mm jack.? The calibration settings are set to "typical" (I destroyed the original values during one of my "experiments"). Was thinking of trying a small resister in series with the speaker. Any other suggestions? 73 Mark AJ6CU |
Re: The Daylight Radio
Dear Ashar,
No worries, I am looking at what I printed and with some strategically placed holes in it, I can mount it with a couple of screws from the bottom. ? But the one with the base plate would be handier. ? I was curious as to the size of the Box that your box is that you mounted the DAYLIGHT RADIO in. ? That gives me a goal as to how big a piece of printed circuit board was used to build it on.? I am starting my build with the PTO and the crystal filter because they are the two Items that seem to be the most difficult to produce. The rest of the circuit is similar to your other radios that I have or have studied. ? Take care and have fun.? The DAYLIGHT RADIO has the possibility of being a great first home brew project to teach the art of being able to do it. ? 73 Dave WA5DJJ SUPER GRABBER https://www.qsl.net/wa5djj/ |

Hi, Yes I have entered my callsign in memory manager. I remenber that I didn't succed to load the "ubtix_28-file", since I got "file version is too low"? just as in /g/BITX20/message/91201. However I solved it by editing the line "txt_maxl." just as in /g/BITX20/message/91212. 73 Ulf SM0TRY |
