Re: QR code and KD8CEC Memory Manager, "Error- data file is short"

Ulf,

The model of the Nextion screen that you listed is a 2.8nch Basic model.? You need to find an HMI or TFT file that matches a 2.8" basic Nextion.

You should also note that the original files require an old version of the Nextion editor to compile successfully.? I believe this is due to added functionality in the base code loaded when the application is compiled that was not in the original editor.? On the Nextion site, the editor you want is called LTS.? Here is the link:

The alternative is to use the TFT file for the correct model and follow the directions on the Nextion site to transfer to a microSD card.

Try the above and let us know if that solves your problem.

Ubitx v3 & v5 - low vol on start +high pitch in speaker but not headphones

So, at least I am consistent...? Just finished assembling a v3 and a v5 this weekend. On start, get a high pitch sound (oscillation?) out the speakers if vol is fully counter clockwise. If vol is mid-way, just normal volume, and no high pitch sound. The speakers are nominally 4 ohms.

If i plug in my headphones (8ohms), a very short buzz and then normal volume control operations. Double and triple checked the vol-hi + vol-mid wiring, and even switched them, no change.

The switch between headphones and speaker is typical mechanical based on the 3.5mm jack.?

The calibration settings are set to "typical" (I destroyed the original values during one of my "experiments").

Was thinking of trying a small resister in series with the speaker.

Any other suggestions?

Re: The Daylight Radio

Dear Ashar,
No worries, I am looking at what I printed and with some strategically placed holes in it, I can mount it with a couple of screws from the bottom. ? But the one with the base plate would be handier. ? I was curious as to the size of the Box that your box is that you mounted the DAYLIGHT RADIO in. ? That gives me a goal as to how big a piece of printed circuit board was used to build it on.? I am starting my build with the PTO and the crystal filter because they are the two Items that seem to be the most difficult to produce.
The rest of the circuit is similar to your other radios that I have or have studied. ?
Take care and have fun.? The DAYLIGHT RADIO has the possibility of being a great first home brew project to teach the art of being able to do it. ?

Hi,

Yes I have entered my callsign in memory manager.

I remenber that I didn't succed to load the "ubtix_28-file", since I got "file version is too low"? just as in /g/BITX20/message/91201.

However I solved it by editing the line "txt_maxl." just as in /g/BITX20/message/91212.
The nextion display that I bought is 1 "Ferwooh Nextion Basic Display 2.8'' NX3224T028 2.8inch TFT Resistive Touch Screen Panel 320X240 UART HMI LCD Display Module for Arduino Raspberry Pi ESP8266"). I guess that this is the reason for my problem to scan the QR code? I saw that the are some nextion display 2.8" versions with more memory, Do anybody have some suggestions for solutions?

Re: No RF power CW, digital but OK SSB #sBitx

Looked at the reported transmit signals in the spectrum.
Here is CW sending dots, same current draw as SSB PTT with no audio input, no RF output power seen

Next LSB with low audio, also no RF output power

Finally LSB with louder audio, seeing some RF out

I don't know what the units are on the display but it looks like it needs a higher input level than it's getting to drive any RF. The operating manual says:

"?Increase the MIC setting until you are covering 6 horizonal divisions (see the picture below). This is standard setting for the modulation.", but the CW signal appears to only cover 4. [and no pic]

Re: sBitx antenna-first warning

Luca,
good info for the ones who need info on swr meters.

unfortunately there are some who ignore these basic tips,? they ignore this basic tool just like the field strength meter. Then they wind up burning their rigs up due to highly mismatched impedances. and the lack of understanding.

I use a field strength meter with all my transceivers. I have several, which range from simple to exotic. exotic meaning i have the meter in the shack, and the sensing unit in the yard. Actually 3 of them and i can tell if my antenna i built at the time is either efficient or not. Ive seen 1:1 swr but crappy field strength readings because of the "tuner"

Really is no reason for burning up radios even in these technologically advanced scenarios.

I get the banannas saved up i will be buying one of Ashhars new sbitxs. For now, im going to order another ubitx.
LOVE THESE RADIOS!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Re: sBitx antenna-first warning

I also remember, that noobies like myself back in the day,ran both tube and solid state equipment. If i remember, 50 ohms was predominantly a VHF issue. Might be wrong.Even on a solid state transceiver, i never had a commercial transmatch or "tuner".?? we all used the simple swr meter, volt meters and ammeters ,light bulbs and neon bulbs,or homebrewd match or used other tricks? like a homebrewed field strength meter to prove our antennas were up to snuff., . I remember climbing? the ladder to the pulley where my inverted vee was mounted, lowing it,cutting off about a 1/4" to 1/2" at a time on each side.,. one ham i knew used flurecent light bulbs also. kind of a field strength meter. And this was with solid state rigs .Most of his station was homebrewed.

Long way away from instant gratification on a meter that might not be telling you the whole story. old technology it might be but its still applicable today.Dont trust your meter. double verify. With the money we spend on our equipment these days we have to.Use what was taught in the license classes and from your elmers.

Also, big point, whe you are pre matching your rig before transmit, the noise level will decrease and the signals will get clearer and louder. peak on those, and then try to get an swr reading. Also it would behoove alot to use a field stength meter also. it gives you the informaion that tells you wheter or not your system is efficient.

Re: sBitx antenna-first warning

I used to use an ammeter and a neon bulb. tune to max on both. Also,It helps to cut the antenna to band resonance.
I have several antennas ,one for each band i run, also i use a homebrew vertical 3 ft above ground with no radials and this one is the one i use? from 80 to 6 meters. i actually have to use my homebrew match for it.
?
All my antennas have been cut for band resonance, i dont use a commercial match except for my ubitx v6 which i installed inside of it.. For my other ubitxs and bitxsi use a homebrew match using 15 turns of #22 gauge wire with a 100 pf variable? to help match to the antenna and a $5 dollar swr meter inline. Ive used this setup for all my radios, and including ubitx v3,v6,bitx40, patcomm pc 500, argonaut 509,.
?
Sometimes, if your antenna is crappy or not designed properly, or have feedline problems etc ,you can"tune" the "antenna tuner and receive almost a 1:1 and never get out very well because of the false sense of security with an antenna tuner. I dont like the term tuner We all use, because you are not tuning the antenna, but just creating a compatible match from radio to cable.
?
You might check your coax, fittings and antenna connections. With an open circuit(break in the coax at the fitting or antenna)you will take awhile to get any match impedance wise. If you have an auto antenna match, and it starts clicking for over 6 to 14 seconds, more than likely an open somewhere or a really big problem with your antenna, .I personally experienced this with the ldg z100. had a cable break right at the fitting.
?
Just my personal take of it all. And i have never popped a final on any of my ubitxs or bitxs.

DAYLIGHT RADIO

Dear Group,

Does anybody have the .stl file for the plastic toroids for the DAYLIGHT RADIO who would be willing to share?

Also, What type of filament was used for the toroids?? Is PLA good enough or is it something more exotic?

In the Daylight radio online description and building notes.? The Trifilar transformers and not described as to core
and number of turns.? I suspect that they are the same as the ones in the uBITX but just checking to be sure.

Take care and have fun,
