An especially good idea would be to print it out on transparent stock.
Back in the old days before CAD,
designers would lay out their boards by laying physical
tape on transparent plastic. Then they would put the layers of plastic together and laboriously check every connection.

As a firmware guy, I would watch the hardware engineers do that. I was not jealous. I still remember the time Joe did a board with the motherboard connector mirror-imaged. That
prototype got a LOT of little green wires.

I made a very big mistake on the choice of the footprint in Kicad for
relays.
This sort of thing is a good argument for homemade circuit boards. I used to do it with pcb-express. I downloaded their software but did not order their boards. I would print out the copper layers mirror image on a laser printer.
Then iron the paper onto my copperclad board with a clothes
iron. The paper would be stuck to the board. Then dunk it all in water and peel the paper off, hopefully leaving the
toner on the board.

Then dunk the board in ferric chloride etchant. When it's etched, pull it out and scrub off the laser toner. I use a Dremel mounted on a drill press fixture and little tiny drill bits ( used to be available in boxes really cheap at Harbor Freight, but no apparently longer alas ) to drill the through holes.

I put back-to-back diodes between pins 12 and 16 of the schematic (be careful as I have been told that does not agree with common pin numbering for the relay).? This is to protect Q90 from external RF sources while in receive mode.? Here is the K1 portion of the v6 schematic (all of the versions are the same in this area).



Unless you are asking about the kickback diode protection for the relay coil.? That is D7 above.

My wife and I have lost six people we knew and used to see regularly - directly due to COVID-19.? Students in my department lost parents and family members... unexpectedly because they were in good health and "not that old".? If I remember right, one (maybe more) lost both parents in a very short time due to COVID-19.

I'm glad that the vaccines are out and effective (especially for preventing deaths and serious cases).? I do wish that the vaccines and materials used to make them were more available to other countries, like India.? This is a global issue and we need to think globally in fighting it.? We can't think just about ourselves anymore (individually and as a community/state/nation)!? The ban on exporting the raw materials used to create the vaccine needs to stop!? (Likewise the destruction of materials and equipment meant to help fight it - as seen in news reports lately.)

IMO, Amateur Radio could help... keeping the spirits up of those trapped at home and helping to get information in and out of areas that have limited communications.? We should work to this end - focus on that idea.

I have been aware of the case loads and death tolls around the world.? We also should model good practices - wearing masks properly when in public.? (I rarely see people wearing them properly when going to the store - and many people refusing to wear them for political or religious reasons.)? If we can help keep people from spreading the disease, we will have done a good thing!

First, you have the wrong microphone.? The rig is designed for an electret type mike.

Second, connection to the mike is wrong.? Use the schematic to show how the mike should be connected.? If your transceiver is a uBITX,then use the uBITX schematic.

Being off-frequency indicates that alignment is needed.

Audio output level could have been damaged by a short in the output connection, but it might be worthwhile to try a different speaker first.? If the alignment is way off it can affect audio output because it places the signal outside the crystal filter..passband.

Probably more to be fixed, but woking on one thing at a time should help minimize confusion.??

Several thousand uBITX transceivers have been assembled by others with no problems, so it unlikley that there is any problem with the instructions or the schematic.? As a licenced ham radio operator it is expected that you can read a schematic and folow the wiring diagram.??

Being in Brazil should not be a big problem.? Communication delay is minimal.? If we concentrate on one problem at a time we can fix one thing at a time, and then move on to the next problem.??

I will follow this thread and try to help, but others can jump in at any time.??

I still think the unit does not transmit on voice.? I can receive signals now but again the volume is so incredibly low I cannot hear it with the speaker.? There is now an offset in the tuning frequency to the true frequency of about 4,000 Hz.

I did a hard reset on the stupid thing by holding in the knob and turning it on.? That didn¡¯t help the volume problem.? It is still barely audible.? So it doesn¡¯t help with the calibration.? Now the menu says I should hear a tone of 10,000 kHz and adjust the signal to zero beat.? I really can¡¯t hear anything so I have no idea what to do.

Circuit design in the uBITX is not all that complex.? The voice part just

amplifies the microphone and uses that voltage to unbalance one of

the mixers to produce DSB, which is then filtered to change that to SSB.

Were the spurious emissions checkers just looking at steady state, or I'm missing something??

My V6, going into TX in CW mode:? ~28ms of spurious, then things clean up.? At this time, C52 has discharged to 2.75V
The?emissions start before CW_KEY is pulled to 5V.

I haven't looked using the original firmware. (I am using Reed's)
I have not yet tried / verified the diode isolation hardware fix.? (why wasn't the hardware revised for V4+, if this the fix for this issue? )

Go to the 10minute mark for the third step in the full calibration process (though if you did the prior steps then the frequency calibration could be off and you will have to do that part again).

Here is the BFO Tuning Aid link:

It does require a Chrome browser.? Edge or Internet Explorer does not seem to work.? You also need an antenna connected and the ?BITX tuned to an open frequency.? I have not been able to get my iPhone or iPad to work with the aid, even when I have loaded and use the Chrome browser.? It does work with all of my laptops and desktops with a mic.

The instructions on the BFO Tuning Aid page are:

Adjust the volume so that the "noise plateau" appears.? Too high and the plateau is buried in all of the noise signals.? Too low and the full 2500Hz of audio is not visible.?

  • 3. In the settings, choose ¡°Setup BFO¡±. Tune the knob until the noise graph is centered approximately between the two red lines of 300 Hz and 3KHz

  • 4. Press the encoder button again to save the settings
  • ? ? ?NOTE:? Be sure to record the value of the number on the screen for future reference.? When you go back to calibrate the BFO? again it does not display the prior saved value.
  • ? ? ?NOTE 2:? You do need to power the ?BITX off and then on again after pressing the tuning knob to use the saved values.
Note on the full calibration process:
There are 3 steps that form the basis for the calibration process that is described in the Ashhar Farhan video:
1 - Adjusting the BFO so that you can hear the low-frequency audio tones that are beating with the AM carrier of the known frequency AM broadcast (This can be a signal generator if you know that the generator is calibrated)
2 - Adjusting the calibration of the Master Clock in the ?BITX Raduino.? This is where you are finding the point where the audio beating just goes away.
3 - Readjusting the BFO for best speech and opposite sideband suppression.? This is centering the noise plateau to be between the two lines slightly to the right of the center.? The right edge of the plateau should be on the red 3000Hz marker line.

When doing the full calibration steps you do need to power off the ?BITX between each step.? This is to ensure that you are using the saved values from the EEPROM.? This is stated in the video.

Everything that you are describing points to first the BFO, then the mic, then the mic preamp.
