Re: uBiTX #v6 - First steps after assembly
#v6
I managed to calibrate the radio successfully. Once again many thanks for the great support, which I experienced here in the forum, I address in particular my thanks to Reed.
My next step is to add a resistor in series to the 5V regulator on the Raduino board to give some heat relief to the IC. |
Re: ubitx version 3 construction info files
I have a few different repurposed ?enclosures I might use. I am mostly interested in 40/20. I just have been away for awhile and wanted to find a package of wiring and fixes instead of running down many separate links. I found the version 4 page so I will get the basic unit going before trying mods and fixes. I just remember how much was posted daily when it was current. Thanks

Re: LED hookup on ubitx v3 board
There is a way to show RX/TX.? That requires a resistor (I assume it is on the board) and connections to the K1 relay and ground.? You tap off of pins 1 for TX and pin 3 for RX.? That will be 12 volts, so I would assume there is a current limiting resistor on the board supplied with the enclosure kit.??
I have 3 of the enclosures but do not plan on using any of the LEDs.? That would require another connection to the board that would need to be socketed to allow for easy removal and modifications.? Also, with the KD8CEC Nextion screen upgrades, there is a TX/RX indicator on the screen, so the LED on the panel is redundant. If you have more trouble in working out the details.? Let me know and I will dig into the kits that I have. 73 Evan AC9TU |

Hi Evan, I bought the v3 a couple of years ago and then last year a cabinet from amateurradiokits.in. When the case arrived, there were extra parts and among them the little pc board and LED. I would have liked it to show TX/RX but if there is no way of having that then I'll not use it. Thank you for the clarification. Janusz? ve2zhp

LED hookup on ubitx v3 board
Janusz
Good day to all,
I'm almost finished assembling my ubitx v3 radio and in the manual (last page) it says to hook up the LED to the v3 ubitx board. I have looked every where on the board, on the internet and have not found any information pertaining to the hookup of the LED. Can someone help me out? Thanks? Janusz? ve2zhp |

EMRFD Oscillator Problem
#oscillator
#off_topic
#emrfd
Hi all experts,
I am trying to use the oscillator described in EMRFD book page 4.9 fig 4.13 C. I have attached a drawing here. Sorry for the bad drawing. The values inside the brackets are actual values that I have used in my circuit. Now the problems are 1) Whenever I bring my hand near to oscillator its frequency changes considerably. This is very annoying. How to stop that ? I know this is due to capacitance of my body, but there must be some way to stop this as professional designs does not behave like this. There must be some standard way to stop this. I have made the circuit in Manhattan Style. 2) I don't understand how to take output from this oscillator. I tried two points marked A and B in circuit. If I take O/P from A the it shows harmonics as seen from my scope pic . How to stop this harmonics? 3) If I take O/P from B then it looks OK but frequency again changes considerably. So How to take O/P from this oscillator ? Also I need suggestion about a buffer amplifier for this oscillator, preferably BJT based as JFET are very scarce in my country. Thanks & Regards Ashok Das |
Re: NEW BUILD V6 with nextion 2.8 NEEDS AGC! issues and fixes. first time posting
HI amie! I do not know if david has gotten back to you in email, But we have received it! That said we are currently closed and not shipping product due to covid concerns, We have some decisions to make regarding our safety and re-opening in a timely manner. Regarding the S-Meter, The kit we sell breaks out an S-Meter tap that works rather well with the CEC firmware. At least from my personal experience! Thanks for the patience! 73, Tim 'KE2GKB' Keller On Fri, May 22, 2020 at 3:12 AM Evan Hand <elhandjr@...> wrote: AMIE, --

Re: ubitx version 3 construction info files
Good catch Curt!
I did not think of the AmatureRadioKits (even though I did repackage all of my uBiTx in one of them after first installed in a hacked project box of some kind).? That does change the wire up.? The tune-up would still be the same. It is also one of the reasons to include as much information as possible about the exact build when asking for help. 73 Evan AC9TU |
Re: ubitx version 3 construction info files
I see Evan has pointed you to instructions at hfsignals, that apply if you use a self supplied case. If you happen to have a case from amateuradiokits.in there are additional instructions involved. I concur to build without mods initially.? after that, then consider necessary harmonic mods and other optional mods. Enjoy the build journey, be patient. Its a bit more homebrew than a typical kit, except for beginning with assembled boards.

Re: ubitx version 3 construction info files
John,
For the type of information that you are requesting, I would go to the ubitx.net site.? That seems to have the most information on older uBiTx models.? Be sure to check out the "FIX" section, as there is an article on the v3 audio issues with both ways to prevent as well as fix the TDA2822 issues with that version.? You will also need to do the "Spectral Purity" sections, as the versions before v5 have harmonics and spurs problems.? The harmonic issues require relay replacement.? The spurs issues are not as clear, there are multiple choices.? I am not operating either of my 2 v4 boards above 18 MHz, so I have not done the spur modifications.? The checks on my 2 v4 boards have confirmed the relay replacement as a fix for harmonics, as well as having the spurs above 18 MHz, not below. As to wiring, there is not a specific v3, though the v4 wire up is the same. This page is still active, with the links to wiring and tune-up: Experience has shown me (and others on this board) that building the rig in the stock form first is best.? Get it working as designed.? This is also the easiest for others to provide help.? Once it is working, then start the upgrades based on what you want and how you plan to use your new uBiTx.? Research and plan before starting down the upgrade path.? It is also possible to ask about a planned upgrade here to get the opinions of others to help in your choices. There is information on this board, though it is difficult to find at times,? You could search the files and wiki sections.? There is also a search feature of the messages on this board, though that is by title and tags only, so somewhat limited. If you run into any issues, I would recommend posting the details on this board.? Letting us know what test equipment you have can also help with the recommendation if testing is required. The above are just suggestions.? Have fun in the build and subsequent upgrades! 73 Evan AC9TU |
Re: NEW BUILD V6 with nextion 2.8 NEEDS AGC! issues and fixes. first time posting
AMIE,
For the Nextion editor, try the Nextion Editor LTS version.? That is version 0.53 if I remember correctly.? For some reason that version will compile the 2.8" screens without the memory error (I assume that the files available were created with a version 0.53 or earlier). 73 Evan AC9TU |

NEW BUILD V6 with nextion 2.8 NEEDS AGC! issues and fixes. first time posting
I got the V6 and got it all put together and going, so I thought. K3 is dead after trouble shooting and manually? adding the 12v needed it worked, so pulled K3 and borrowed Ka1 then added a jumper in place of ka1. I dont use 10M so its fine for now till the parts I ordered from ebay get here. Maybe HF signals can send parts??
I then got the nextion screen going and installed. Minor dremel work on the left side holes of the nextion board and fit fine. The push part of the main tuning knob doesnt work well, it sometimes does mostly doesn't so I will separate that to a momentary push button for function.? The modulation is low, so for that I changed R62 to 4.7K and R63 to 10 ohm. Wala it worked. Any more and it would be too much. 2-3 inches away is ideal.? My setup does just fine on modulation out. I will mount a small soft fan in the back wall of the enclosure. The finals get pretty hot. The heat sinks are pretty small but for now Its working fine.? Finding other info has been difficult. I set the bias of the 510's to make sure they were correct RV2 RV3 When I checked they were a bit hi. RV1 does work well as it gives the ability to control the drive amount. I am running the CEC v1.200 and finding information on setting the BFO etc was a challenge. I am also using the ubitx manager 1.1 and it has helped. The S meter ability doesnt work so well and not easy to define in the mem mgr settings as to what it actually needs to be set at. It was very muddy when first setup. SO I played with the USB offset numbers until it sounded the way I wanted it to.{ on the edge of the filter}? Nice sharp and clear. Its at the point of being a bit narrow but is working until I find a better way to work with audio filtering. It is never going to sound like a hi dollar commercial built radio and I wouldnt need it to because this is a really cool kit radio and the sky is the limit. Just needs to WORK and have a nice intelligible audio, which now it does. HAPPY DANCE lol.? I have been trying to get in touch with kit projects to get the AGC board. This radio NEEDS an AGC.It is worth the effort to add AGC. The rest of it is nice, but if I cant get that board then I will either make something or find something for the front end. I have not had a problem with Q90 being shorted from close hi rf, yet! But if do I will pull the SMD and put a 3904 or 2222 in its place. no big deal. I will also be installing a inline fuse or maybe on onside as it needs this! I will use a 3A fast blow as the radio pulls 2.56A {16W} on the cw key.? Very pleased so far.? I am running the CEC and nexteon and really enjoy that! The reg on the raduino does get pretty warm, Have thought about adding a bit of series resistance to ease it back some, the fix for that is and cool is set the screen off time, cools right off.? ?Its a great job of setting up and design. I tried to use the nextion compiler to edit the colors of my readout but having issues there yet, says no enough ram? have plenty but is for another day to maybe figure out how to save once colors are changed, the rest works fine.? I didnt want this long and didnt post any links, rather just wanted to get this out there. Minor issues but over all fun and great little project. I bult a 80M only scout and this is similar but better. Good job on this one! I am a big time kit builder and home brewer. This one is a good one. I hope I can learn more from this foum and get the v6 settled in. Thanks.? -- AMIE N9OXO |
