Re: Unit dead

Another clue, when unit is powered successfully the 5 volt regulator on the raduino gets quite warm. You can affirm its action by checking to see that there is 5 volts on the board.

With my v4 it is visually easy to plug the raduino into the board and be off by one pin.

If a tiny piece of wire is shorting something, a good power supply may stop outputting voltage then.

The need to debug is part of the journey. My v4 is on the bench because one of my mods isn't properly installed, even though it is working nicely on transmit. Debug time, I will find it.

?I'm on my cellphone, so need to g and see if I can copy the pix.
?It is grey, has the window for raduino display on the left, holes for speaker/headphone jack and Mike Jack under that. To the right it has holes for volume and Mike gain, then far right is the tuning control.
?Comes with 3 pots, speaker, assorted hardware, speaker and Mike jacks, which are common 1/8" stereo jacks.
?An SO239 connector, short power cable and socket, fuse holder with fuse, switch for power, a metal bracket to hold the front up, plus hardware to hold the raduinos display in place.
?Also 3 knobs.

Re: Unit dead

A quick check for the Raduino is to pull it from the main board, connect a miniUSB cable to the Nano (socket is between the Nano board and the Raduino board) and supply a standard 5v USB power to the USB cord.? If the display lights, and the operation of the Raduino seems normal, then the problem is on the main board.

If the Raduino display will not light, then it is possible that the problem is the 5vdc regulator failed on overvoltage.? Only what that I know would be to remove from the board and try USB power again.

What test equipment do you have access to?? Since you reported voltage and continuity measurements I would assume at least a multi meter or DVM.

uBitx V6 working

All,
After borrowing an antenna tuner, upgrading my Beofeng Mic, I made a successful QSO yesterday only to find myself in the NA-QSO Party :-) I could tell by listening that all was not normal and fortunately my first (ever) HF contact (Tom K3AJ) was kind enough to explain the rules.
So after a couple of hours I mad 14 QSO's on the 40 meter band and had a lot of fun.
Thanks to all in this group who help me with getting the V6 set up.

Short of seeing visible burn damage in both rig and power supply, let's hope its something else. Use a dvm in ohmmeter setting to do a continuity setting, no voltage applied.? first check for a direct short. Then move to using the schematic to see if there is connections from 12 volt input to the board, and places where it should be. Mistrust your own wiring, and I hope you find something.

Separately check that power supply, that you may have to plug in.

It has to be something. With no burn or fireworks,? lets look for a connection problem.

Also make sure that you are talking DIRECTLY to the hotel you want to stay at, not some other booking agency. ?Recently we went through Booking.com (because their site came up first) and when we got to the hotel Booking .com had not contacted the hotel and we were made to go to a different hotel (late at night). ? I was not charged ?as they don¡¯t charge your card until the hotel confirms the purchase. Unit dead

Don't know if it's related, but my power supply died and now the unit is also dead.? I wasn't sure if it hurt to have the power supply on when the transceiver is off and I forgot to pull the plug, but the other day all I got from it was a faint flicker on the power supply light, no output.? Perhaps a surge wiped it out.? I got another power supply and it measures 12 volts output, but no response at all from the Ubitx5, no sound, no display, nothing.? I've checked the connections and don't see anything obvious.? The fuse tests OK with ohm meter.? The power switch seems OK.? The 2 cables from the big board to the small board are firmly seated.? I've jiggled wires and played with it but it's not resuscitating.? Any suggestions??

Re: sotabeams filter installation

There is a times 4 input gain setting on the sotabeams circuit. Its off by default, so there may be more gain to be had.

Mine is in an external housing so I can use it with my different rigs.

I also have the Vari unit which Ive not used yet,? I have just aquired a couple of oled displays so plan to utilise a display.

for it.

Re: Rugged Case Options? #ubitx

You know, it's not to hard to cut these cases to size if you don't want it that long. I have a friend with a nice metal shop that lets me cut cases on his chop saw or band saw, then I just clean up the edges with a flat file. In any case, I would mount the final MosFets to the back panel with some insulating pads and some silicone grease.

Re: Rugged Case Options? #ubitx

I'm guessing that your replying to my post of over two years ago:
? ??/g/BITX20/message/36989
about this $10 case:
????
You guessed it, that's the one... Sorry, I forgot to quote the original text, nice working hunting down the old post...

Vents are not a bad thing, the IRF510's do need to get cooling somehow.
If you plan to be operating from a mountaintop in a hailstorm after lugging
your uBItx in a backpack otherwise full of rocks, perhaps you need a thick extruded
aluminum case with the IRF510's?somehow bolted to that case to sink heat.
Most of us can get by with wrapping a relatively fragile uBitx in a spare stocking hat,
and then stuffing it along with antenna and battery and tuner and mike and key
and a bottle of brandy into a good stiff box of some sort.
Ha!? Nope, no mountain tops in a hailstorm.? More likely, car camping, set it out on the picnic table, maybe take it on some hikes to do SOTA.? Mainly just want to minimize chance for damage, while also not breaking my bank... I liked this case partly because it's so much cheaper than the extruded ones... At some point, I need to stop throwing money at my uBITX, even if it is all fun!

Here's how ND6T did the heatsink on his Bitx40, this will also work on the uBitx:
? ??
Alternately, could remove the IRF510's, bend the leads up 90 degrees from the front face,
and then solder them to the bottom of the board and bolt them to the bottom of the case.
They must be insulated from the case.? Keep the leads about as short as they are now.
Thanks for the point-out.? I've already looked at a lot of his stuff, I need to go dig into his website some more.
