Yes sometimes seeing can be the issue!?
Better to use an ohmmeter (DVM or other type) to see if there is continuity from 'ground connections on the board - any, they are all connected within the board) to the OUTER conductor of the coax connector.? if this is an open circuit, you aren't properly connected.? (you might be connected to the board but maybe not the case - see note about scraping paint if you case has paint).?
building RF stuff requires some investigation - use a meter always, don't trust your eyes.? don't ask about my own misadvertures!

Hi Gavin.
I don't see a RF ground.?The (-)DC voltage is not a ground.? On most power supplies it is a common.? If connected to ground at the supply, it is connected to mains electrical system ground, not a good RF ground.
Since you are in a metal chassis, remove the paint to have a good connection between the chassis and all the connectors including the 4 PCB stand-offs. Then bond the chassis to your RF ground.
Also make sure you have a proper size fuse inline between your power source and your uBITX.
The green/yellow/orange bundle to your volume control: Move that forward and down close to the chassis to minimize coupling from the encoder and USB

Hello Group, long time lingerer, first time poster.
I've had the uBitx V4 for almost a year now, and have used it for listening a bit, but not much. Recently I met a local ham (VE7PS) that really got me interested in radio again. I have been studying for my license on and off for the last 4 or so years, and now after meeting VE7PS I am making the push. I will be taking the test early January 2020.
ANYWAY, the reason I'm writing, is I'm a tinkerer. and I've done most of the mods to my uBitx; nextion display, ND6T Stockton Bridge SWR with the extra arduino for S-Meter and SWR. Ive also got the small AGC board from kit-projects.com.
My question is; after installing the AGC and the S-Meter, where should I connect the S-meter? it says "Vol-high" but the AGC board has an S-meter pad. The AGC instructions state, that for a V4 board to connect the AGC V to R70 through a resistor instead of through VOL-HIGH. So it seems I have 3 places to choose for the S-Meter: Vol-HIGH, R70 through a resistor, and S on the AGC board.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Please be sure to use the correct hex file, there are a number of them. Here is the FileNameInfo.txt listed.? Note that the hex file to use is dependent on the display that you will connect.? The the last part of the name indicates the display.? the file ending in _16P is the CEC software that will work with the original display.? The file for the Nextion displays end in _NX.? The _NX_S is for use with the I2C connected separate S meter.? Go to the Hamskey site to find out more.

Did you remove the paint from all of the holes to insure good contact?? Antenna jack, power, board mounting holes, jacks, case screws,etc. Twist your audio wiring together more as well.?

I have my radio in the chassis now, no more humming, but the radio stations are back. I can¡¯t see any wires touching the chassis and the stations were there without the lid. And they are persistent no matter my tuning. Here are some pictures:

I have downloaded the most current files (that you listed) and have uploaded first the sketches and then the hex files to see if there was any difference. The radio loses volume after these uploads and does not drive the Nextion. I really don't know what to investigate next. The radio works fine with the original software and display. BTW the last time I uploaded a hex file I had the original display plugged in and it worked just fine even though the file I uploaded was for the Nextion display. That really doesn't make sense to me.

Use a 2wire + shield cable between audio 8 pin plug and the volume control. The ground pin of VC can return? back on the shield wire to the connector. But not to be grounded there at VC. Hope this method helps.
