Is there a larger 2 line display we could substitute directly for visually impaired or for mobile use thats easier to see??Yes there are somewhat larger common 16x2 displays. I can't speak to 'direct' replacement, (not interested in doing that homework) but these have I2C modules and 6800 parallel library support. Look at the datasheet and see if the size is what your after.? The rest should be simple software changes, if needed at all.? |

Re: Prewired 16x2 blue display
It seems the problem is mainly about soldering technique or general electrical repair.
One tip I have is to plug the female connector on to the male connector. Use quality solder and additional flux. along with a clean tip.? Solder a pin near each end then move around so you don't heat them in kind. A bit like tightening lug nuts on a wheel.? -- 73 Dave k0mbt |
Squeel and intermittent loss of audio v5
Maurice Bersan
Just a heads up if you have a v5 board and are using the universal case with the extra accessory board. The one with Ptt audio and CW jack's mounted on the front panel. I noticed with mine that occasionally when I plugged the mike in I would loose audio and had a loud squeel when I turned the volume down. Problem went away when I removed the mike.. after about an hour of head scratching I found the underside of the accessory board would come in contact with the threaded riser beneath it....the one on the volume pot side of the lower case, which is used to secure the front case stand. Just a minute amount of flexing of the front panel would set it off. I ended up grinding off about 1/32 off the riser for clearance.
Cheers Maurice.? ?Vk6hly |
Re: Using Vacuum Tube heathkit as Linear Amplifier for QRP
vu2pep, how did you do this? How did you connect the bitx20 to the
DX-60? I want to try the exact same thing with my uBitx and DX-60B. Did you plug the output of the Bitx into the crystal socket or VFO input? This is a new adventure... -- 73, Rich WB2GXM On 11/15/19, padmanabhan cattamanchi via Groups.Io <PEPINDIA@...> wrote: I have used a healthkit dx60 with the bitx20de vu2pep |
Re: Prewired 16x2 blue display
...or more specifically,
or an upgrade if you like, As to soldering pins to the board, I might suggest first tinning the pins alone; if you have some soldering flux, a trace amount on the circuit board holes won't hurt though optional. Then, with the board held by a vise or similar, use pliers to hold the pin and place it about 3 or 4mm (1/16"?) into the hole. With a small drop of solder on your iron's tip, heat only the tip of the pin until the solder wicks onto it. Then, immediately draw the pin and the iron outward together to a suitable mounting position for the pin. You can and should roll the hot iron tip around to touch the circuit board, at which time the solder will wick over to the circuit trace. REMOVE HEAT as soon as the wick happens.? Blow on it, cool it, etc and you will be OK from there to continue to the next one. Hint: Not all pins are used or necessary. Ted K3RTA |

Yes it did. I read it last night. I believe the same info is on the qrp labs website in the qsx area.
