Re: Antuino manual

Hi,

From the schematic you can see that the power input goes directly, and only, to an lm78l05acz voltage regulator.? The datasheet for that says it will take a maximum input voltage of 35VDC and and needs a minimum of 7VDC to provide a steady 5V to the arduino.? So the input voltage is pretty flexible, although I think most will be using either a 9V or 12V adapter supply (or batteries).

Guess we need an #antuino hashtag.

Thank you for the answer that it does NOT charge the batteries.

Does anyone have the specs for the power input?

Thank you,

I appear to be having the same problem with my Antuino.

It won't power up with the battery pack. I reflowed the solder joints. The diode appears to be operating like a Capacitor, ie - it conducts power for a short period of time, then stops conducting power.

What are the power specs for the external power input? Does the Antuino charge NiMh batteries when connected to external power? I looked on the schematic, and it does not appear to say, either.

Anyone having this problem that re-flowing solder on the DC connector doesn't fix, be sure to check the diode as well. ?1N4148's are pretty rugged but I've received bad ones even from Digi-Key and Mouser in the anti-static strips they come in and it's not all that uncommon.

Oh yes, how about a written manual in PDF format rather than video? ?Some of us would much rather read the book rather that watch you-tube videos. ?Especially when needing info and the internet is not available!

Jim,
The SMD parts are assembled on a Panasonic pick and place. No chance of a reversed diode. What is, however, possible is that the DC connector, which is hand soldered, hasnt been soldered properly. Open up the box, unscrew the PCB and flow solder on the tabs of the DC connector from the component side. I covered this problem a while ago.?
A video manual is in the works. I finished a few yesterday, I will start posting th3 videos over the weekend.

That would be nice.? Mine works fine on the external power input but 6 brand new AA cells in the battery box (9.56V) wont even light it up.? Farhan take note I suspect an open ?or reversed diode but without a schematic I can trust, I don't want to destroy it accidentally.

Is there a manual available for the Antuino? My unit arrived today.

I thought I joined the Antuino group but I see the last posting I received was on 8/17.

I meant +1 to Evan's help, AND I am slow to post an agreeing comment that was in draft stage.

Re: CEC firmware upgrade issues...

+1 on what Evan kindly said, but I'm slow to post.? Use version 1.2 for your V5 hardware.
It should default to V5. You've already mastered most of the common stumbling blocks.

But, before one of us nice folks leads you down a rabbit hole. Save what is in the EEPROM from the factory.? If you load the CEC firmware, you can use the memory manager to read and then save the EEPROM data.? Do this before even considering going into any calibration mode. Very nice utility!

I have my own 'prior' art, but it looks like an 'od -h', LOL.

Re: CEC firmware upgrade issues...

The CEC v1.097 is not compatible with the v 5 board.? You need the version 1.2 or higher??

I have yet to purchase anything....from what I read, i think I'm going to have to study the project more closely, as there seem to many more options/addins than I realized.? I appreciate the offers...will post more when I know more.

And yes, I was active on qrp-l and also host the drake list

Wonderful offer. I don't know Thom but remember him from qrp-l. In my judgment a small team of builders can take turns working on his rig, in parallel with your own rigs.

Important is to find out what kind of enclosure he has, but even the standard supplied wiring is good. I see his email is on . email him personally to see if he can drive, or whether you need to pick up his rig.

Your timing seems better, as we already finished much of our build here in Carroll County, more than 2 dozen rigs. Check out our K3PZN ubitx page for some good info.

Also I have a V5 board. I'll reload the orrig software to compare.

I'm using the Arduino environment to upload the software. Took several attempts and only worked when I selected "old bootloader" when verifying

Re: CEC firmware upgrade issues...

First off, what version of uBitx?? If it is not v3 or 4, then you need the 1.2 version of the CEC software.? The IF for the v5 boards is different and requires a different software version or recompile with the correct flag set in the code.

If you have a version 3 or 4, then the most likely issue is the BFO frequency is off.? The way that I do the BFO calibration is to tune to a quite frequency on the ruBitx, feed the audio outpput of the speaker through a mic to a PC running a free audio spectrum analyser software and adjust the BFO to peak be between 500 and 2,500 hertz.

You may need to go back to the WWV calibration to adjust the base frequency, as that can change.? In general 2 repeats did it for me.

Here is the link to the PC audio analyzer that I use:

Re: CEC firmware upgrade issues...

If you downgrade back to the version you were happy with do you still have the same results?? That would at least eliminate propagation changes or hardware issues.

Re: CEC firmware upgrade issues...

Probably missed matching the firmware with your version of hardware as filters have changed in V5 of the hardware.
Are you loading the hex files or compiling/linking the source code?

CEC firmware upgrade issues...

Hi all,

First thanks for all the good advice on correctly wiring the mic. It worked and the uBitX project is progressing nicely. I made three contacts in TX,TN, and LA from VA. Every time I tune through 40 meters I hear a lot of traffic. I'm pretty happy! (I wish the CW function worked though)

Last night I upgraded to CEC FW v1.097. I was so excited to see it load. Unfortunately the results are disappointing. Now when I tune through 40 meters all I hear is light static. No traffic. Nothing. I tried to calibrate but can't get a WWV 10MHz signal.

Any suggestions? What did I miss?

Thanks,
Steven KM4WIP

Thank you Allison for the answer. So if I put the PA voltage from 12v to maybe 16v it will not worth the pain regarding the final output power??

Have you tried Memory Manager to see if anything changes?
I had problems at first because my changes didn't seem to take.
What I did:
Power off Ubitx and connect USB cable from Ubitx to PC
Start Memory Manager and press Connect to set communication with Raduino
Press Read From Ubitx
Press Decode and make note of calibration values
Shutdown Memory Manager and disconnect USB from PC
Power on
Make calibration changes and press PTT for about 2s and Calibration Set appears
Power down Ubitx and power on
Power down Ubitx and connect USB to PC
Start Memory Manager and again press Connect then Decode
Press? Read from Ubitx then press Decode
You should see your calibration values have changed

If values are not changing then there must be an issue with Nano I would suspect.
Hope this helps.

Re: max PA PWR voltage ?

Running th efinal at high power with 100ma bias means that at 12V your heating
them at 1.2W no signal.? Bring that up to 24V and its 2.4W of heat.??

To run at higher voltages you need to insure the heatsinks and air circulation
are adequate.? ? Heat is a known killer.

However you will still be power limited as the drive level does not change with
increased voltage to the finals (separate power bus).? So the increase is notable
but not hugely greater.? HINT:? if you don't increase the power by a factor
of 4 the other guy will not have a clue (he will not hear it).
