Re: CW key sticking with Nextion LCD, still getting RF in

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHappy to say running shielded wires and making sure metal contacts like mic plug is grounding to case and everything else. I am not hearing any RF in the CW delay on my antenna.?On Apr 11, 2019, at 2:57 PM, Joe Puma via Groups.Io <kd2nfc@...> wrote:

The RP is a computer with a 750MHz clock and a mega-munch of memory. That would be a possibility. The Raduino simply is not. Jack, W8TEE

Re: New siglent on the way
Congrats for the nice tool! I have always asked myself whether one could also use an SA as a low phase noise receiver or at least a part of it. Il 12/apr/2019 03:07, "Gordon Gibby" <ggibby@...> ha scritto:

Probably not. The Arduino family just don't have the resource depth or clock speed to do it. Jack, W8TEE

Could that external computer be replaced with a Raduino?

uBITX V3 for sale
I have a uBITX version 3 board for sale. It is complete, and has not been modified. It includes a Nextion 3.2" display, a 12v 5a power supply, an additional 5v regulator board that can be used to power the 3.2 inch display, and an additional 10k pot with a knob.
Everthing you see in the picture below is included. I did not complete building the kit, but did do enough to power it up and test it on receive. You will need to swap the wires on the encoder as I have it wired backwards. I am asking $120 US plus shipping. Will ship to Canada or USA. Email me at my call sign at hotmail.com for more info. Bo, ?I'd like to leverage your good work (aka copy). ?My current cheap sound card dongle is installed in my uBitx case. ?I put a easydigi between the dongle and the uBitx audio input/output, and I wired a pot I series with the input to the uBitx mic so I could easily control drive level. All driven perfectly by my win laptop (fldigi, WSJTX, js8call, etc.)
while it works well, I hate having to dedicate my old laptop to the job. ?Hence the RPi. ?I know next to nothing 'bout ?no UNIX or Pi. ?But the goal is to put the Pi in the case, and use an old excess monitor/keyboard, etc. i assume from your write up that the Pi will drive the cat control, usb sound card, run fldigi, and a browser to do QRZ call sign lookups? is this doable, or am I signing up for a endless nightmare? thanks so much for the help.? Re: Microphone choices
Mike -- I burned up the included electret element, then bought 10 similars to replace it. ?Put one in a pill bottle with the tiny included switch on the side. ?Works grand. ?My QRZ page has a pic. ?If you would like a extra element, just send me the address. ?Happy to mail one to you. ?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI ordered the myantenna inline choke I posted. Theres a lot of good things said about so we will see. I have a 3 core 49:1 unun for efhw. before i had a 9:1 unun and a random wire. Had the same issues there. I got grounding, counterpoise, all types of stuff¡nothing has really combated the issue, getting closer though. I put 3 ferrites on the cable it helped a little with the tuner chatter but still hear some RF hissing in the speaker. ?Today I am redoing all the cabling in the radio with good shielded wire with foil wrapping.?Joe KDNFC

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAntennas like the OCFD, EFHW , really
even a plain dipole will utilize the coax shield as part of the
antenna's counterpoise if they can,? resulting in? RF in the
shack, excessive noise pick-up, and pattern distortion.?? The EFHW
requires a counterpoise of ~10% of the main element length, the
others not so much.
The way to prevent this problem is a
choke unun at the antenna feedpoint.?? This can be as simple as
several turns of coax in 8 to 12 inch loops,? or at qrp levels
several turns of? RG-174 wound around something like a FT240-43
core.?
I had a Balun Designs 2KW Unun that was
the center of a 160/80 trap dipole, after a few years the
electrical box it was mounted in deterioated and it went to the
junk box.
Recently it's "parts" have now been
resurrected and it now forms the input choke unun for my 4 core
49/1 EFHW transformer, all in the same 4x4x6 junction box.
Fighting RF in the shack problems never
ends until you find a way to keep it out.

I have found that c50 is a bit microphonic, Am able to tap on it with a pencil and hear the tap. You might try it to see if the audio system is working.
Have had the finals almost baking hot after having a cat sit on the desk mic for a long period of time. Didn't hurt the transistors at all. |

I would replace the LM386 they are relatively cheap, only issue may be time waiting to get one through the mail.
If you have another audio amp, you could try connecting the wiper of the volume control to the amp input to see if you then get the difference between antenna connected and not connected. Good luck! 73 Evan AC9TU |
Re: v5 12m/10m Spectrums

I suspect the inductor I used from coilcraft is at least as good as those in v5.? Q ~ 60 or 70 above 45 MHz.? I am contemplating a BPF based upon a T37-6 and a cap, but since we need rejection only 5 MHz above and below 45 MHz - I am doubting it would do much.? One spur seems to be 2 x 45 - LO, and the other appears to be PA leakage going back into the mixer for another conversion.? a by-product here is when I add anything in this serious path in my v4, the CW transmit output in both 40 and 80 meters drops a bunch - well under 5 watts.? (at least one other v4 I know of does this).? of course I thought about a switch for CW to eliminate needing to route through the mixer (that is then not a mixer) - but that's complexity.? but I wonder if something like this could improve the QSK - if we got rid of all the relays when doing CW (except the static ones for band switching).? I had similar problems when connected to an off center fed dipole.? i solved my issues with clip on ferrite on the coax going to the antenna.? That may work for you.? Maybe a ferrite between the uBitx and the tuner, or an isolation balun
The issue was RF on the braid of the coax. FWIW 73 Evan AC9TU |
