Interesting, how do you update the Nextion via serial. What do you have to do to the Nextion when sending serial streams. Thanks Laurence On Sat, Apr 6, 2019 at 5:57 AM DC8FG <dc8fg@...> wrote:

Re: 3,5" Firmware did not fit the whole screen
tnx again ted, yes every day new challenges comes up in our wonderfull hobby ;-) And it is so great that so much OM work together worldwide to find solutions for this challenges and help each other. This is one of the reasons why I love amateur radio. |
Re: Broke it like only a newbie can - Calibration problems
Ted,
Thank you for the reply. This is how I have been tuning (steps 1-5) and I did have it pretty good at first but I didn't realize you had to cycle off to set it. The first night I heard someone from Norway like they were sitting next to me. The next morning things were messed up again and I couldn't even pick up WWV. I was all over the dial trying to pick it up and I think I got way out in the weeds. I did download uBitx manager and put everything back were it was supposed be I got it to where I could understand speech again. I do think it could be tuned in better but I still am not sure what the zero beat should sound like. I have watched a bunch of different videos on it but still not really sure. I don't have another HF radio so I can't use the redundant radio idea. I do tune it more by the musical note and it has gotten me close. I am am new to HF and building radios (uBitx is my first step in). There is a big learning curve on what to listen for, how to best tune and even propagation. I like this group because even though it is for the uBitx I have gleamed a lot of general radio knowledge as well. The people on here are very will to help out. ? I will try out your suggestions tonight and see if I can get things dialed in a little better and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the help Bill KE8EYM |
Re: 3,5" Firmware did not fit the whole screen
You're quite welcomed, Frank. I've learned a few things by trying, while the next step will be to begin from scratch or close to it.? If this has helped one guy or just a few, it was worth it.? Perhaps we will work on the air together some day. 73, Ted K3RTA |
Re: 3,5" Firmware did not fit the whole screen
Ah, ok, mni tnx for your help! I found a solution from Ted #67572 and it looks pretty good for me - mni tnx for your work Ted! For me it is a bit cumbersome to feed the display with sd-card when it is mounted. So now I use a USB / Serial-TTL-Converter from DeLock. Data transfer takes much longer than using the SD card, but this time is the right time for a big cup of coffee ;-) |
Re: Broke it like only a newbie can - Calibration problems
Ted, thanks for posting that bfo calabration. Looks very similar to the old R388 instructions used by myself back in the early '70's. Somewhat tedious but always checked out against primary standards maintained by our second order calibration vans. Their standards were maintained by our Barstow,Ca. Repair & standard's depot.
This always makes me wonder how often we as hams check our "standards¡± like say a Bird meter or in my case, a TS-352 scraped by Barstow, then repaired by me and converted from BA-31's at 4.5 Volts each to common over-the-counter battery¡¯s for resistance measurement. Back then each item had a cal due date from the next senior shop. Also, thanks to all of you for getting me back into repair and programming along with the Arduino world introduction,& safety, smt useage, tips about many other thinks like Linux, low power antennas, & QRP operation.. Re: NEED HELP
As Ashhar stated above, be sure that you have the correct program for the Nano. The correct version for v5 uBitx is in the "uBITXV5_CEC_V1.122.zip" zip file.? For my v4 boards I used the "HEX1.097.zip" files.? The most recent distribution from Hamskey is the Arduino .ino files that then need to have the correct flags set for uBitx version and display type, complied and down loaded.
I would check that you have the correct Arduino program. 73 Evan AC9TU |
Re: NEED HELP
Which version of the board do you have? I hope the IF is proper. IF of V5 is about 11.0555 Mhz and lower versions have 11.997 Mhz or thereabouts. - f On Sat 6 Apr, 2019, 8:30 AM Curt via Groups.Io, <wb8yyy=[email protected]> wrote: Well the hot regulator is easy. Well the hot regulator is easy. I discovered it when my rig was having issues, and was spooked. It is normal and okay.
Did you have signal before you installed the nextion? Usually folk build the ubitx in stock form, then upgrade it, it could be a bad wiring connection anywhere in the path. The noise kevel should go up on any of the lower bands when plugging in a good antenna. Make sure rig is not stuck waiting for a command. Unplug power source to start it again. Curt |
NEED HELP
Laddie
Thank you to all that helped with prior problems.
I have the nextion 3.5 working fine.? I do not know what I did BUT now I have no receive. When tuning I hear faint notching with dial turn matching the freq change. I get a hum but no signal. The voltage regulator which has no heat sink on the??Raduino is getting very hot to the touch. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: Real or Clone - Nano survivability, any real difference?
Nigel G4ZAL
I've encountered several recent clone?V3.0?Nano's with old bootloader pre-installed.? As Jack said, you can overcome it in the newer IDE.
If you have a USBasp programmer, you can easily flash the newest bootloader onto the Nano via the 6 ICSP pins - I don't even solder them in, rather just insert them attached to the USBasp cable (with 10 pin to 6 pin adapter) and hold them over to make a firm contact for the few seconds it takes to flash the new bootloader.? Ebay has the USBasp+cable+adapter all for a few bucks. Nigel - G4ZAL |

I don't know the software that well, but is there a version that is scaled to the larger screen size? Given that the Nextion display reads the graphics from an SD card, it may be a static display. I'm sure someone else can answer definitively. Jack, W8TEE

have IO cells that are more sensitive to RF than a good chip.?? I suppose. Such a chip is likely to have some other failure modes that would pop up first. Anyways, in answer to your question:? No,? I haven't. On Fri, Apr 5, 2019 at 09:28 AM, Ted wrote:

How do, Ray?
That was for the basic 3.5" screen. I've attached an original HMI file and also a compiled TFT for the Enhanced, though I wouldn't blame you a bit for looking it over first. Best of luck with the capabilities. Comments more than welcomed. It's a learning process on this end. 73, Ted K3RTA nextion 35 wide 2.11_E_.tft
