Re: Power supply

Here using an mfj1317. No performance issues. But as it is warm to the touch, I am doubting its efficiency as a switching supply. As a 30 amp rf worthy supply can be had for less than $100, curious myself on low cost options.

Re: Power supply

Some laptop style power supplies are noisy but I have had good luck with 12 volt 30 amp switching power supplies on Amazon for under $20 with Prime.?? Now I have more than enough power to run my 70 watt Chinese amp kit too.

Power supply

I¡¯m sure this has been covered but I would like to know what are the favorite power supply options for the Ubitx. (12v 3a). ?No plans to be portable so either a bench top unit or something I can mount in an enclosure for the radio. ?Also with some of the other options I am seeing, maybe I will need other voltage outputs. ? Thanks!

Joel

Re: Finally got my ubitx on the air!

I found it, a Plessey SL6270C. Thanks very very much for the schematics with the indication of the easy mod to do on the ubitx. It will make it in the next weekends.

Excellent! If I have the same part I will follow this schematics. That part is very military and sounds very good on air.

Re: Ubitx working, audible tone over signals on RX

I and a relative both implemented the Nextion screen with the CEC software and have experienced the same issue.? Filtering, putting it on a seperate regulator does not solve the problem.? The only thing that has worked so far is either a totally seperate supply (common only at the ground to the display), or to run at full brightness as Geoff has stated.

Looking into separate regulator with low pass filter to see if that solves the problem.

Re: Great Results with Mic Preamp

Saw that article last night. Thanks for your report on it's value to you.

This might be old news to some but was new to me. I saw the mic preamp for using a dynamic mic with radios designed for electrets in the Hints and Kinks column of the Dec 18 QST. It is only 4 parts and is powered by the radio's voltage to the electret. I was getting voice peaks of 5 to 10 watts on 80m with the electret and with the dynamic and preamp went to 15 w. I am in CA and a station in AZ said the signal was stronger and better audio quality. I am using an inexpensive Audiotechnica dynamic mic. When I look on the panadaptor on my QRO radio, I did not see any spurs. I made it with parts from my junk box so the cost was zero and I can use it with my other QRP rigs. 73 and Happy Thanksgiving, Mike KF6KXG

With CEC s/w I have experienced this tone. It is generated by the circuit used to adjust the screen brightness.

Click on CW Panel (bottom left of screen), click on screen brightness, I found that increasing the brightness clears the tone!!

Good luck

Excellent for the VOGAD, you can just whisper and have QSO! I Believe I have a spare Plessey like u used, which circuit have u used? I would be pleased to replicate it!

Just finished building the ubitx V3 that I have had for a while (Photo attached)
I am using the KD8CEC software and the stock 2 line display.
Power chain mods completed, 14 Watts on the lower bands now, dropping to 5 Watts on 10m
The ND6T AGC and S meter were a very worthwhile addition.
I have also added a VOGAD mike preamp using the SL6270 and an old dynamic microphone from my Alinco DX70.
First few contacts on 40m have been very encouraging.

There are many excellent Chinese suppliers, but I have had perfect results with Seeed Studios - and they provide a very user-friendly web site for quotations and ordering.

I agree. All of the boards that I've ordered (Forty-9er, antenna analyzer, JackAl) have been first rate. We had hoped they would do the JackAl assembly, too, but their price for assembly was way out of line...like 3x the lowest bidder.

Re: Iambic paddles

Dennis, I believe you mistyped. It should be Mfj-564. The 464 is a cw reader. A friend of mine was looking for a paddle.

I have a very nice all Chrome MFJ 464 for sale. It is excess to my needs. The paddles are in superb shape, chrome has no scratches or pitting It comes with the stereo cable with 3.5mm plug. Due to its weight, probably need to ship in flat rate box. Local pickup in Lake St. Louis, Mo. area is always welcome. The price is $50.00 plus shipping.
