Re: uBITX Tx timeout

Hi Dave,

Obviously unattended operation is allowed where you live and are licensed. Some of that is allowed where I live too but the problem you have outlined is the main reason I don't do unattended operation. The remote controlled power switch that Kevin suggests looks like a good solution but you will still have to know when it needs to be used.

Good luck with it.

Get a smart outlet (something that you can control with Echo for example) and shut the outlet off if you have a problem

Re: Buy in INDIA

Hi Timothy

http://www.hfsignals.com/index.php/2017/11/23/bitx40-circuit-description/ - C103 , 3 pads between xtal and T4 on the PCB for the trimmer.

If those boards were an early batch (or you have modified) the diodes (2 with balance pot?) could well be mismatched. Replacing both should bring balance within the pot's ability, particularly if you measure them with an ohmmeter / DMM. Later versions had the ready-matched pair-in-one-package.
I've a dim recollection of BFO and VFO drive levels for the Bitx40 being discussed - they're adjustable in Raduino software for the uBitx and seem to make a difference.

You might find fragments of the diagram with specific modifications, but that one above is the 'master'.

Past messages in the Group give the info, as detailed on hfsignals site 'help'. Farhan has contributed here, researching his input would give the info 'from the horse's mouth' (as it were). development is ongoing in the Group, mainly for the uBitx but bits are applicable. Above all, READ. It's all in English (as here too), so our Spanish friends may encounter difficulties there - but if successful I'd encourage a translated site (a lot of other 'Latino' Hams would appreciate it!).

From hfsinals website:
If you need information specific to your shipping, billing and other commercial matters, you can drop us a mail to hfsignals¡¯ inbox at gmail. The mailbox is in the name of hfsignals followed by the regular gmail.com.
I feel sure an email there would gain Farhjan's attention, particularly being related to a group purchase. The boards as supplied will have a hand-written number on them; quoting those numbers will identify the batch and indicate appropriate steps - with luck replacements with latest versions, though stock may be low, the uBitx being the major production now. Who knows? I know Farhan and the whole crew are very helpful.

Re: Mike element

Labtec makes a good computer mic that does a good job on the ubitx. I have 2 of them. Also, I had a avalier mic that I bought sometime back from China for $1.99. It works good though not quite the output of the lab tech. Another alternative is to use a mic pre amp. John, vk2Eta did that and wrote it up on the HHSignals site. Those pre amps are cheap. He integrated it to the uBitx. You could make it a stand-alone power mic, like d-104 or Turner SuperSidekick only with electret element instead of dynamic.?

If the obstacle in front of you is too high to jump, dig a tunnel or go around..

Re: uBitX CW Sidetone Volume

Marko Pavlicevic

By TX is off, I mean TX OFF from the Raduino menu.

And, here is the picture...

Re: uBitX CW Sidetone Volume

Marko Pavlicevic

Disconnected main pot and applied CW TONE direct to amplifier (R253 direct to VOL-M).
Now, CW tone can be lowered (with pot across C252) and there is no bumping sound.

So, when TX is off, and you remove R253 from the circuit, you can still somehow hear CW tone, that comes from Q70.
How is that possible?

Re: Tool Tips -- rectangular holes

I clamp a short length of angle iron along the line of the opening, and file to that. Gives nice straight line. Rectangular chassis punches are available but are verra costly, and the larger ones require lots of force, and may need an hydraulic press. FWIW. 73 Kevin VK3DAP / ZL2DAP

Re: Tool Tips -- rectangular holes

Hi John,

I hide imperfections around a rectangular hole in the front panel with a bezel. Those will hide a lot of sins. They are also easier to fabricate with straight, clean edges. Riy=ugh edges that might show a little on internal panels of chassis - who cares.

Your use of the bench vise to keep the edge straight during filing is good but will eventually damage the vise. I use a sacrificial piece of steel like a piece of angle iron clamped up along with the workpiece. In woodworking we call that a "fence".

In addition to files for work on front panel fabrication, I recommend an
electronics shop include:

1. A drill press with a chuck that will accept 0.50-in.-diameter bits.
Harbor Freight sells a couple of bench-top units for under $100. Put a
magnet on the base as a place to keep the chuck wrench. (It's usually
best to clamp work to the drill press table.) Once you have a drill
press you'll find many other jobs for it.
2. A good set of /sharp/ drill bits. Bits with a titanium nitride
coating remain sharp for a long time.
3. A step drill bit. I use an Irwin Tools /Unibit/ 3/16-Inch to
7/8-Inch Step-Drill Bit with a 3/8-Inch shank. Great tool when you need
to make larger holes for controls or to start a rectangular cutout.
4. An Adel-brand metal nibbler. They show up on Ebay. Or buy a new
one at . I've used one since I was a
teenager and couldn't work on chassis or panels without it.

Lay out your hole with masking tape around the outside. To make a
rectangular hole (see attached image) I use a step bit and smaller bits
to make round holes that remove a lot of metal. Just don't get too
close to the rectangle's edges. Next I use the nibbler to remove
remaining metal close to, but not at, the rectangle edges. Finally I
clamp the panel or chassis in a bench vise so an edge of the hole aligns
with the top of the vise jaws. File away any remaining metal until the
edge is parallel with the vise jaws.
