Re: V3 uBitx Very Shrill Audio

Thank Raj, I'll have to look at that tonight. ?Here is a link to a short video on You Tube if someone whats to hear what it sounds like make further comment. ?I went to frequencies on 80 & 40 where I knew there were strong signals at least form one station in a QSO. ?This is what I hear.

Yes, check BFO freq. 11.9965 or 11.9972 range. It comes set 11.995 I think..

Re: JackAl System Preview

Hi Dr Jack, I would like a Jackal when it is ready. I have a Teensy 3.6 and the audio module and a 7 inch capacitive touch screen.

Jack Kerouac has been reincarnated as a radio amateur.? I love it!? Wish I could write like that, pure stream of consciousness.? Seriously!?

Re: V3 uBitx Very Shrill Audio

I¡¯m using an end fed that I tuned up with an LDG tuner on my IC-7300 and then swapped to coax over to the uBitx. I wish I could upload a sample video to a You Tube but for some reason both my iPad and iPhone aren¡¯t giving me that choice like it normally does.?

Re: V3 uBitx Very Shrill Audio

I found this information in a previous post. Is the Wire Up still wrong when it comes to the volume control? ?This talks about swapping the yellow and the red. ?On the current Wire Up it shows the red is not used.?

As you may have read that the volume control wires are incorrectly shown in the wireup diagram.

Please interchange the yellow and red on the volume control. This may solve the problem.
If it becomes worse then there is some other problem..

Re: V3 uBitx Very Shrill Audio

Hey Curt! Can you tell us what antenna are you using for your test?

V3 uBitx Very Shrill Audio

Hi guys, I have my uBitx to the point that I could turn it on and do a smoke test. It powers up fine and the volume control and VFO works fine but the sound coming out of the speaker when people talk just about makes my ear drums bleed.?

I can tell that there are people talking and the audio is good and loud but it almost sounds like they are off frequency but not matter where I tune either abive or below do they ever come in clear. When I tune around I never hear anyone clear. I was under the impression that this was calibrated at the factory. Do I need to do some sort of calibration? ?

I built this up in one of the amateurradiokits.in cases. It doesn¡¯t seem like I have any sort of ground loop or anything.?

Re: BITX40 and uBitx for sale

The radios have been sold.

Thanks David, I wish I had a better case but I figured I have quite a few tinkering around before I get all the bug fixes and mods done. then ill find a more permanent metal home. I just purchased the 3.2 Nextion LCD and some parts to get the S-meter going using a LM358.

i m using an old cb mike i bought for 1 dollar at the salvation army store.great job!!!. i didnt have a mick connector like yours so i opted with supplied one.

notlarc,

i forgot to mention that i didnt have any rg8 or rg58 . know what i ran?

rg6u. some guys will write pages about how you shouldnt do this? or that.

use what u have and enjoy.
you sound like me ,tight budget.
in fact i have a dedicated 10 meter setup running rg6u cable. i have two verticles and one inverted vee and all are on rg6u cable. i use the twist on rg6 connectors and the f to pl259 connector adapters to connect to radio and tuner. i then use some rubber tape to keep the weather out.
and ive used both types copper shield and aluminum shield. both work great.

notlarc,
dont know if it helps but an online magazine called antentop has alot of alternative antenna builds.eh, spiral, etc.
i had the same problem when i rented and built an antenna that was ,ibelieve called a balcony antenna. it used a short vert with loading coil and radials came out from a metal sheet the ham had in his living room.

i personall used 22 guage wire and zig zagged it to get a dipole up and running.some guys have used pvc with the total length of each side of the dipole wound on pvc rods and fed to a tuner... i never built an umbrella antenna but heard of it.since ur area is small, put down some carpeting and underneath it, put down sheet metal the carpeting will hide ur counterpoise.:). that will give u some counterpoise and then buy or build a metal umbrella and feed it via a matching network and tuner.

before i moved to my current location my family and i lived upstairs in an older house with aluminum guttering. i couldnt have visible antennas etc either. i was able to attach a small wire that i painted in two sections. one the brick red color and 2 the tan aluminum paint color of the gutters. needless to say, i worked alot of stations with my argonaut 509 and home brewed tuner using 12 guage house wiring as coil alligator clips to change inductance and an old 100 pf variable capacitor i scrounged from a junk radio.

hope this helps. good luck

Re: Ubitx - using Amateurradiokits.in AGC #ubitx

I'll admit, I am from the tube age, so I really need wire goes HERE type instructions.? And almost kit like mentality.? I put the radio down for decades and missed transistors, ICs, and Arduinos.

Re: Mics, speech processor? #ubitx

I have built an audio compressor for an Adafruit mic module to use with my uBitx. I was wondering what drive voltage will work well with the modulator. I was also wondering what is the input impedance of the modulator.

WSPR....nice touch!

I¡¯ve made one phone QSO do far and a few WSPR beacons. Getting off to a good start so far.

One thing that¡¯s noticeable is the I hear AM stations on the lower bands.

I decided to start building my V3 uBitx I had since February. I was going to build It in a case but hobby funds are low at the moment so I decided to at least get the basics done in the plastic container it came in. I already replaced the audio chip, I had the WX one and I added a AGC that I purchased from one of our group members. I don¡¯t have a power meter or swr but I¡¯ve put it on a dummy load and tested current, I¡¯m pulling 160ma when it¡¯s on and when I yell it went up to. 600ma. I haven¡¯t played with the 2 bias pots and audio driver. I also upgraded to the latest CEC firmware.

I¡¯m interested in improving the power out and hope a good solution with minimal effort is available soon and I would also like to attack some of the IMD issues and spur issues i¡¯ve been reading about. I eventually want to get the Nextion LCD (sp?) and add a dedicated raspberry pi to it with touchscreen and SDR and sound usb so I can do digital modes. But so far the receiver sounds wonderful it really sounds much better than my commercial Yaesu FT 840 which seems to have a lot of noise coming out compared to the uBitx. Btw I¡¯m not sure if that mic is a good mic for the rig but I can hear myself from another radio and I can confirm that I at least hear my voice.

Anyway I really just wanted to show off these initial pictures with the group I¡¯ll see you guys on the bands.
