Re: End Fed antennas w/ uBITX #ubitx

Jack,

I kind of figured that I was hearing QRP and crappy antenna too. ;)
Some this I can make suggestions on but social engineering in not a?
forte I can claim I do well.

Maybe this helps, When I had an 18ft pole with a 2 element for 6 I envied the
guys that had a 40ft tower and a 7 element.? Then their broke and I could
easily still fix mine.? I realized envy is not practical.? So people envy my
30ft tower and I do what I can to help them achieve that for themselves.
For the guy with a 80ft tower and a broken antenna I realize that I don't
have to pay someone to climb it because I would never. My puny 30ft
has a lowering mechanism I put effort into to avoid that case.? So that
tower gets my VHF and UHF antennas as they need the height.? The
HF gets wires and other things to amuse me.? ? The experimentation
is everything and satisfying.? Its something I can do for a lot more
years.? That everyone can do.

So most of the time Its QRP and crappy antenna for me too.? Only
mine a LNR EF-QUAD.? But I enjoy being on and to me contacts are?
good be they down the block or rare DX.? And still my favorite sport is
breaking the pileups at qrp SSB as its a challenge, If I can hear them
I try patiently and persistently, even Navassa!? ? All I can do is encourage
people to try as they can be successful as well.

I have had good results with robotshop and zero problems with returning a defective 7" display.? They make the return process easy.

Re: uBitx for sale

I just received one of those CW filter kits. I'm building it outboard, so I can use it on some other radios. I've got a Small Wonder Labs 20m, an Elecraft K2 (which doesn't really need it) and the nice little modular 40m rig Jack Purdum had in QST that might benefit from it.

I've also got a couple of little squeakers like Pixies and a Tixie 80m cw 3-watter (Pixie II with an integral Tick keyer chip) that it might work on, too.

Re: Spurious RF at beginning of CW transmission in the uBitx

This is the first I have heard of this issue on the uBITX. ?

There was a similar issue with the BITX40 and?Allard, PE1NWL implemented a code workaround to suppress it by temporarily shutting down the Si5351 CL2 for about 50ms after PTT closure,?to let things settle down before allowing the rig into TX.?

Re: Nextion TFT

Thanks all for the input.

Al Duncan, we're thinking of a transceiver for the next buildathon. Last Wednesday's meeting we asked for ideas. Transceiver sounds like what people want. I suggested the Nextion display for something a little fancier.

A note to bigger Nextion screens.

I have a whole range nextion displays, the bigger the display the stronger the PWM backlit interference on the uBitx.

What I did to most of them is disabling the PWM signal from the uC, cut the trace and pulled up the backlit to maximum backlit.

Noise level is 20 over 9 here tonight. It's even really noisy on 6 meters, which is unusual.?

Hi Warren,

Thanks for the reply. I noticed that it occurs on all bands and that the spurious output is always in the same relationship to the operating frequency so I suspect that it is not because of the PA itself going into oscillation as that would certainly be band specific. It seems that if it is a problem common to all bands and frequencies, it could be due to something with one of the local oscillators. I wonder if it is something to do with the firmware or timing issues? I'm sure someone will come up with a solution!

You mentioned VE3THR in your last post, the one I'm hearing I could swear he gave his call as WA4THR. An N4 something (N4DR?) is coming in at an S8 but his audio is a bit muddy and I couldn't make out the rest of his call, he's talking to WA4THR and someone else.

Well, that's good news! I thought I didn't have an antenna tonight also. 40 meter loop didn't want to tune. Fortunately the problem was?only that the control cable pulled out of the back of the control box.

I'm hearing you, John, in Oxford, MI. Don't have a working 40 M antenna tho.

I'm hearing a couple of other stations too. Someone is currently using a Bitx40, doesnt yet have a uB. I think he has a 4 call.
