I think this will work for the Ubitx...microphone

Kevin Rea

Hi guys,
I am just getting ready to build my first Ubitx.
I am going to use a Baofeng Microphone to do it.. so I bought one and took it apart..
and this is what I came up with after tracing the wires..
I am just using the microhone part of the mike, not the speaker.

I think this will work......????

Re: Unbuilt uBITX Ver4 and Blue Cabinet for sale.

So William, what blue cabinet are we talking about here. The amateurradiokits one?

Re: The new uBITX boards are here

I made the mod to my V3 board to change C81 (near Q90) from 0.1 uF to 470pF,? this was to get more even output power across the bands as suggested by
Farhan.?

After doing this my output dropped to about 500 mW !? I was worried that I might have toasted Q90 (literally) in the process so I went back
to 0.1 uF for C81 and I am now back at the previous power levels, so obviously Q90 is still fine.??

After looking at the schematic again, it occurred to me that I either installed the wrong value cap at C81 or perhaps making this change necessitates
re-adjusting the trimmer pot RV1 ?? ?Can anyone who has successfully made this mod to their v3 board tell me if this is the case??

Thanks?

Michael VE3WMB?

I have an Unbuilt UBITX Ver 4 with matching Blue Cabinet for sale.? I want $180 shipped via Priority Mail. Text me 619 518 2547 I just am not motivated to build another superheterdyne transceiver. Not since I discovered SDR direct Sampling.

Re: RD16HHF1 power curve flattening...some

Did you reroute the pins on the RD16HHF!, the are in a different arrangement than the IRF510. ?The IRF510 is GDS, the?RD16HHF1 is GSD. ?Swapping the source and drain will blow the fuse like that.

Hi everyone,

I tried to do this mod:?

I checked everything for shorts, and a multimeter connected to the power input shows typical capacitor behaviour. However, when I connect power, my 3A fuse instantly pops. Is it possible that fake RD16HHF1 are causing this? I'm kinda desperate.

Hi Jeff,
are you seeing this low output in ssb mode or in CW mode?

You can also support the Arduino group through direct contributions on the download site. I encourage everyone to make a contribution each year. See:

If they add a true symbolic debugger, I'll make an extra contribution!

Re: receive works great, but no trans power, #ubitx-help

It the signals are strong enough to fry Q90 the mixer will soon be gone too.
The BE junction is as robust as the mixer diodes.? so whatever you are seeing
is quite strong and could even be ESD.

For ubitx (V3 or 4) a pair of back to back 1n194/4148 diodes from K3 Pin14 to ground
is the best bet as then its only there for RX and has no impact on TX.

Bitx 20 and 40 the solution is different.

Its easily done on the back of the board.

Stuff that doesn¡¯t get through the filter can fry Q 90 and never get clipped by the diode mixer.....

For example, 2 meters?
TV?

I still don¡¯t buy the distortion argument, otherwise Q90 ?would be creating exactly the same distortion. ? We haven¡¯t heard anyone complaining of that have we?

the uBitx is wideband up to the 45mhz filter, and the diodes can distort all that incoming RF.

We don't hear much about Q90 blowing on the uBitx,?
likely because the diodes in the first mixer conduct before there's real trouble.

Depends. ?What changes did you make? ?They need to be documented so I know what they are supposed to do. ?I try not to install anything in any of my radios before I understand what it does or at least is supposed to do.

You need to start creating instruction files to go along with your changes to any firmware so others can understand what you did.

Q 90 is exactly the one to be destroyed by a strong signal coming in from Antenna. ?

*If they are being destroyed by strong signals, that¡¯s just the diode mixer is not protecting them.
