After a lont time of using my Bitx40 with Allard's 1.09 firmware I decided today to upgrade to the latest version 1.27.7
No hardware modifications have been implemented except for the Function switch that was installed when switching to 1.09. With the new firmware (1.27.7) I cannot save my calibration. After I power OFF and again ON I get the same message, unit not calibrated, so I have to go through the steps of setting LSB calibration, USB calibration, VFO drive levels, etc. and the starting frequency is VFO A = VFO B = 7.1250 MHz. Initially I thought there was something wrong with the Nano (EEPROM issues), but reverting back to 1.09 everything is back to normal and the calibration values are retained. Any one had the same experience? What did you do to make it work? Do I need to make any hardware modifications in order to have the radio retain the calibration? Thank you in advance, -- Ion VA3NOI |

As the mad radio modder said put in a resistor and provide the through holes for a trimmer if the user wants to be able to fine tune it. 33-39 ohms is safe. Raj At 10-07-18, you wrote: raj, |
Re: Inexpensive eBay Amplifier Kits
You pays your money and you takes your chances.
Since I sold 20W+ Amp kits, I bought one of these to try it out and run some tests. The MOSFETs had the ID taken off with a grinder. The amplifier worked the first 4 times we powered it up and "went south" the 5th time with limited output. I did get a refund after working with eBay "for a while". The good thing is that they are improving and I'm glad to see them using the sleeve ferrites over copper tubes for the output transformer (#61 material ?). Question the linearity and if it's Class C (probably OK) or Class AB Linear.....and what the top end compression is. Any of these run better at 24V or 18V but I want a 13.8VDC Amp. 73 Kees K5BCQ? ? |

much space there is on the panel...I bought one of Sunil's cases, and now I'm thinking I could mount the correct size of Nextion in a bezel with bolts mounted on the back that are spaced to hold the Nextion to the front of the case, covering the hole in it that was meant for the 16x2. That could work pretty nicely. As for the enhanced version, I think the RTC would be a nice thing to have, I like how it looks on Ian's graphics (your graphics). Re: Inexpensive eBay Amplifier Kits
I've read some reviews on these and it seem the big difference between the $36 100w and the $18 70w is the 100w is on 16v and the 70w is 13.8v.. The heat sink for either is $8.?? They both need an low pass filter for the band you use it on.? Some people say they cannot wait to retire.? It is great for the first 2 years but I retired in 2010 so I might just build the 70w version for 20m, my favorite band.??

Re: NEXTION DISPLAY UPDATES For KD8CEC ver 1.094 up
A. Same features but different resolution on standard Nextion displays.? I have 3.2(400*240) and 7 inch (800*480) cheaper and works as well as my E version The "E" versions have more memory, real time clock with battery slot and faster? - cost more. I find my 7 inch standard display? response is as fast as my 3.2 E? ?- At least I cant see any difference? Both types work well,? mostly its a matter of personal choice and what resolution you want Joe VE1BWV On Tue, Jul 10, 2018 at 7:32 PM Richard Spohn <wb2gxm@...> wrote: I am on the verge of purchasing one of the Nextion displays....2 |

I am on the verge of purchasing one of the Nextion displays....2
questions: A) are there more KD8CEC "features" on the bigger displays, or are the bigger displays just larger versions of the smaller; and B) is the enhanced version desirable, as for the real-time clock and bigger flash memory? Thanks - Rich WB2GXM |
Re: Determine best values of VFO_A and VFO_B
VFO A &? B does not matter.? Those are just where the frequencies are when you tune a station.?? The other ones are what you need to adjust .Those values should not be zero.? Hopefully you saved the original program and can load it back in.? Then do the recalibration.? If not try to find a strong station of a known frequency such as a local AM broadcast if nothing else. Determine best values of VFO_A and VFO_B
Bob Shaw
I am currently using 1.080 sketch and MM 1.081 on a WIN10 PC.
Can anyone explain how to determine the original values of VFO_A and VFO_B that may have been accidentally changed? I believe this accidental change may have?reduced the uBitX sensitivity greatly (or are the bands really this bad)! ?Currently, these values are decimal 26, 211, 53, 00 and 16, 62, 17, 00 In my?uBitX. I wonder if VFO_A and VFO_B are really only the current user VFO settings, and not really critical to the uBitX's?"magic numbers"? Or was the warning not to change these magic values referring to MASTER_CAL, LSB_CAL, USB_CAL and SIDE_TONE? Currently these values are set to all zeros in my uBitX. Perhaps these are the values I need to recalculate. I can't find enough information to decide what to do at this point. Any help greatly appreciated.? ? ? ? ?Bob VA7SU |

The red LED should not blink any more since you have replaced the Blink program with the Bitx program. Which software are you trying to load? I would suggest using the original Raduino software for the first try, as it requires no modifications to the system. Jack, W8TEE

None of us were born knowing how to do this.? I will try to explain with more detail to see if we can get you through this.? Let us first see if your computer is recognizing the nano.? This will help determine if you have the correct driver. First go to your device manager.? In Windows 7 go to control panel, then systems and security, and finally device manager.? Most likely you will have one of the two situations described below. Find a heading labeled Ports (COM & LPT).? Do you see Arduino Nano listed?? If so, write down the port number shown after it. If you did find the Nano in that section you have the driver.? Now go to the Arduino IDE (the program you installed to compile and load sketches) and check the following under the Tools tab at the top:? For board make sure it shows Arduino Nano, select it from the list by clicking the arrow.? For port make sure it shows the port number you found in your device manager.? Once you have the board and port selected you should be able to upload the sketch. If in your device manager the Nano does not show up under ports it is probably under Other Devices.? If that is the case you do need to install the driver.? That is also a relatively easy step but that will be for another post if you need it. Let us know what you find. -- |

RTTY on the ubitx? Here's what I'm working on for my Icom 7300 and ubitx! Having fun listening to my 'diddle' while I work.
Ideas appreciated! I had an earlier version going with a PS/2 keyboard but RFI killed it. Trying different approaches now.
