The Raduino display standard is 6 pin parallel 16x2 or 20x4 or i2c or Nextion or some HDMI thing on an RPi that talks to the Raduino or just dumping it out as morse to the audio sidetone. Jack I think we are also reaching a similar conclusion.? Making standard interfaces for specific modules (like the JACKAL boards) does make sense.? Trying to make a do-everything-for-everybody generic interface for all the runs between highly different modules is probably not going to happen.? All of us like to modify the designs and some of us are just plain obstinate about adopting and using standards. ? ;-) Thinking here about the POSIX standard that was obsolete before it was published. In the Raduino we do have a standard interface for the LCD, and a standard interface for the Arduino NANO.? Having a standard motherboard interface for the Raduino may also make sense.? Looking at just the BITX designs it does seem that modular construction is interesting, and may lend itself to several generic interface designs to support quick changes in parts of the build.? In that we seem to be talking about standard interfaces, that may drive sections of interconnecting 'bus' design. We have no idea what spec it meets, as WX does not have a datasheet for it. In addition to an apparent absolute max supply voltage of around 6 or 8v, it quite likely suffers in the audio quality department. The NJM2073D (not NJM2037D) is a compliant TDA2822, built by a respected manufacturer. Easily available, in stock at Mouser (513-NJM2073D) and Digikey (NJM2073D-ND), both distributors have thousands in stock. Good choice. Those wishing greater speaker volume on a v4 board could do well to dead bug a NJM2073D to the back of the uBitx board, replacing everything between the volume control and the speaker as per the v3 schematic.? Or do the same with an ebay LM386 audio amp module (a fully assembled board) as per the Bitx40 schematic, cost of about $1.? Plus shipping. That being said, aren't Elecraft radios 'somewhat' modular? As I recall you can get many Elecraft radios as 'screw-together' kits at a small discount and they offer upgrade 'modules' to add new features/design changes to older radios. Some of us did have a bit of fun with the direction you took with your original post as a way of encouraging an attitude adjustment, hope that wasn't too offensive. Many here enjoy solving problems with the radio more than we do operating it. Arv: My EE knowledge is like going to an axe fight with a squirt gun. Perhaps the best I can hope for realistically is a modular approach. Separating into function blocks like we see in equipment discussions might be the best I can hope for...and I can live with that. Farhan, for example, simplified modifying/replacing the LCD display by simply using the pin connections between the main board and the Raduino. A few more pins from the main board IF would have made the JackAl board interface virtually plug-and-play. Building with that kind of flexibility would be good enough for most of us who enjoy tinkering without having to resort to a "ham bus". The good news is that I'm not smart enough to even join an EE battle, let alone pick one. I'll try to stand in the background, nodding occasionally so I look like I understand what's going on, and wait to the EE guys to model a workable module approach. That, too, would be fun. A PA board up against an exciter is a recipe for trouble.

Potentially has 40 dBm signals very near some -20 dBm signals. Digital stuff near the exciter could also cause trouble. Could be dealt with by having the two ground planes face each other. And/or, extra long headers between the boards and a sheet of metal placed into the intervening extruded aluminum slot. And/or the careful placement of parts, one board relative to the other.? And/or shielding around sensitive circuits, perhaps 1 cm long sections of copper plumbing pipe with a copper sheet (a PCB?) bolted over the top of the entire board with appropriate RFI gasket material. I think you'll find the so239/pl259 combination as well as the bnc were
first standardized by the military and then the commercial industry picked them up. I connected the cheapest computer speakers with a built-in amplifier and sent a signal to them bypassing the amplifier uBitx.
I got a good audio.
and "A re-setting of the BFO should fix this" did not have to do with it.
You just need not use the audio amplifier in uBitx. he is no good at all.
for me it's a fact! I will build and instal in uBitx a wonderful audio filter and audio amplifier QCX from QRP-Labs.

By posting to this group I can only assume that the original poster is more interested in a smear campaign than in finding resolution to his problem. As ham radio operators we are expected to be scientists with a lust for knowledge, enquery, and getting to the factual root of an issue. If you can¡¯t get a QSO it is usually not your radio¡¯s fault.?

I agree with Jerry. ?I have a v3 utbitx with a socketed TDA2822, it works great and I prefer it over the discrete amp used in version4. ?I built that same circuit in Pete Juliano¡¯s 40 meter Let¡¯s Build Something SSB transceiver and it was a headphones only amp. ?You can substitute TIP31 and TIP32 in place of the 2N3904 and 2N3906 for driving a loudspeaker...BUT....they are a larger format (same size as the IRF510) so you have to heat sink them and that takes a lot more space. ?Everything is a compromise.

Jerry: All thoughtful points, many of which I didn't even consider. I remember trouble shooting the S100 bus using "extender cards". It made it possible, but it wasn't ideal. Any "rank mount" has to keep that in mind. It seems to me that the bus bottleneck is most severe on the transmit side, whereas the receive side might lend itself to more standardization. Personally and for obvious reasons, I want to mess around with SDR rigs. I don't know enough to write one...yet, but I would like to learn about them. IT just makes sense to push things out of hardware and into software where possible. That said, I don't want to be tethered to a PC or laptop in the process. I want the computing horsepower to be part of the rig. As I said, I don't have the talent to carry this forward, but segmenting the xmit/rec elements might help define a bus that could work. I have been a ham for over 40 years and in all that time there is not even a 'standard' for the microphone jack.? Even if the plugs are the same type , the wiring is often different.? Andy After listening to your video it seems obvious that you have the BFO frequency too far down the IF sideband.? That high pitched noise is an indicator.? The uBitx and Bitx40 are attractive for many different reasons.?
Some want a simple ham rig, and have a bit more time than money. They'd rather spend a day putting it into an enclosure and than pay $500+ for some commercial rig. Some take delight in whacking at it, making it better suit their needs, occasionally succeeding.? Plenty of posts here from people engaged in this. And some take delight in complaining about stuff. Could be anything, but the uBitx fills the need. This forum provides a suitably large audience. It's all good, and all are to be encouraged in their endeavors.
