Mike Hagen, WA6ISP, is selling an "improved" Raduino for roughly?$48. It is completely assembled for that price. If you Google his name and call sign you should get an email address for him or just browse the UBitX help blog until you see his name show itself.

Re: Low RX Audio #ubitx

Most of circuitry is used for both TX and RX, so that is why I asked for TX power output. If TX works, than I would look to those parts not used on TX. Maybe there is some switch (diode or relay) that does not work properly. Maybe in this case kits like signal tracer by Hendricks may be useful to detect the defective part, solder joint, if any.

Excellent, so just put the .tft file on an sd card, inseart, upload and done. That would be GREAT!

Thanks Ian!

I have it on good advice (from Ian) that you will be able to use a 2.4 or 2.8 TJC version with a pre-compile from KD8CEC!

You could ask Mike Hagen, WA6ISP, if he would share his design/... for his modified Raduino. Its structure is probably the easiest part of your planned endeavor.

Re: Homebrew from scratch #ubitx

Hello Woolf,

I have Eagle layout files for the RF sections of the UbitX. I took a modular approach, so there are several circuit boards that you could make a UbitX or a single conversion design. I've been thinking about uploading them to the files section for some time but I just haven't done it. Here are a couple of pictures of the exciter section (single conversion). Let me know if you would like them and I get email them to you:

Re: Display garbled uBitX

Could be a blown IO cell on either the Nano or the display.
That would happen if you shorted one of your separation cable wires to something like 12v or the like.

More likely, one of the 6 wires from display to Nano is open or shorted to something else.
Use an ohmmeter to verify wires are connected, and adjacent stuff is not.

A Nano is $3, display about the same.
Would be good to have a spare of each so you can swap stuff around.
Oddwires and Tayda have good prices and stock inside the US,?

If you wind up replacing he Nano on the Raduino, consider socketing it on the backside.

I didn't use my uBitX for a while and today when I hooked it up my display was garbled. I was afraid that my seperation cable might be the problem, but even with the display directly connected to the raduino gives the same result.

When I turn the tune button or push it I see things changing on the display so it looks like the raduino is functioning, Any ideas how to move forward?

Re: Display garbled uBitX

John

It seems that everything is working except the LCD display...?? If that is the case then I would
look for a bad solder connection in the 4 data leads that connect the LCD to the Raduino board.
A bad connection could easily garble the data going to the LCD.?

Yes think so too, just hooked the antenna and a speaker up and I hear FT8 coming in on 20m so the uBitX itself is working.

Unfortunate I already had a blue backlight ordered but didn't pay attention,? it has 14 pins on the left side and 2 on the right.
So I am debating to either buy it locally in the US or be patient and order it in China

Re: Homebrew from scratch #ubitx

Soldering the si5351 would be the main challenge. Your best bet would be to buy the qrp labs' si5351 synth kit and solder it as a daughter board onto the main rf board. A small perf board can take the arduino, lcd display to the front panel.?
What I did for the original hombrew was similar to that.?
