Re: Instruction Manual needs revision #ubitx

I'm only speaking for the CEC firmware, I don't know if the factory firmware has the same behavior.

I've noticed the calibration and the "VFO" "interact". Probably a bug. It you do a calibration and then decide to do it again to improve on it, the calibration returns to the starting point. However, the audio gets thinner and thinner with each re-calibration. The solution (work around) to this, is to turn the power off and then on to the uBITX before each time you do a calibration.

When you turn the encoder during a calibration two values are incremented or de-incremented; the "calibration" and the "usbCarrier" values. What I suspect is going on is when you enter the calibration mode the "calibration" value is reset to zero, but the "usbCarrier" value is incremented or de-incremented further from where it was last.

Hi Farhan,

you know I have been a seller on amazon for over 6 yrs selling data storage systems, HDD Docks etc.

their commission & other charges are too high and they even penalize the seller if the goods don’t reach the buyer

also in case of COD if the buyer does not take delivery the seller is charged shipping costs both ways

so also in case of returns

There by you may have to increase ?you selling price to cover such unforeseen losses

I suggest selling, on your own HF signals is economical & safer.

You are doing a great job and we appreciate all your efforts

We are still exploring if we can fulfill the orders on our own for Amazon customers. It is a call that HF Sigs will have to take. I only work around here...

Re: Can't get my uBitX to transmit CW on the Dial frequency

The CEC code has a lot of very good options. The options do make it a bit more of a challenge to work through. ?There may be more "adjustments" made elsewhere in the code. There are a number of if statements that change the frequency logic depending on a CW mode. However,?I'm just beginning to work through the code myself, so have not worked through the details.?

The CEC firmware has specific CW modes, so it has more possible solutions to the transmit/receiver issue offset. The factory firmware (unless it has been updated since I tried it) does not have a specific CW mode, so that is why it seemed the simplest solution was just to display the transmit frequency when the uBITX was I the "CW" mode by virtue of "CW" being displayed while it detects the key is being used.?

Re: Can't get my uBitX to transmit CW on the Dial frequency

Well, there's definitely and issue there...
Now I could get my uBitX to Transmit on the exact Dial freq changing those lines in the code.
but...
The CW RX BFO isn't getting recalled or applied or something, I mean I can get it to zero beat when adjusting it in the menu but somewhat it just revert back to where it was before when I press the PTT to save it no matter what I do. the "number" setting remains 11.997.xxx... or whatever but it just doesn't do anything to the actual CW RX freq on CW modes just when I press the PTT to save the freq shifts to where it was before, no change there on RX...

You must have a reasonable grasp of English (and Arduino C) to have got this far - I'd suggest read it all again, and be accurate in your communications (both here and to the rig!).

Am I correct in that all of the following amateur bands are affected?

18.068 - 18.168 MHz
21.000 - 21.450 MHz
24.89 - 24.99 MHz
Something around 26-27 MHz (varies by region)
28.000 - 30.000 MHz

The bands from 18MHz - 21.450MHz at least will have the offending spur stripped out in the LPFs after the finals.?? I agree that amplifying these spurs is not ideal and adds to the problem of drive...? I speculate that this is why there may be a low in power output around these frequencies??

However, the spurs generated at 26MHz and above won't be stripped out by the finals LPF at all, nor by the BPF (actually an LPF) built for RX as these all fall below the desired signal frequency.? This makes it likely that 28MHz is non-compliant with at least US emission standards.

At a minimum, an HPF needs to be switched in for 24MHz and above in series with the RX LPF.

It may be that two filters could be substituted for the RX filter with a single digital line controlling the switch over:

Below 22.5 MHz, a LPF cuts in with a threshold just above 22.5 MHz, killing off all the unwanted mixer products.
Above 22.5 MHz, a HPF cuts in with a threshold just below 22.5MHz, again killing off all the unwanted mixer products.

On Rx the exiting LPF is inserted.?? No new data line is required to switch the RX LPF in/out.? This can be controlled by the TX line.

Inserting new filters in the TX line would require a couple of cuts on the board either side of the existing RX 33MHz LPF filter.

Overall then - 2 relays, and 2 filters (1 LPF and 1 HPF) to solve the problem.

What do you think?

Re: Can't get my uBitX to transmit CW on the Dial frequency

Thanks for your reply Tom!

Been fiddling a bit more with the issue and my solution(?) was to edit the ubitx20.ino lines 504 and 508 and deleted the "+sidetone" and "-sidetone" and then proceeded to adjust the "CW RX freq" on the menu until perfect 800hz on zero beat.
That seems to fix the issue but I'm hoping to hear from Ian or someone with more experience since honestly I just understand like half of the .ino code there Hehe. dunno if I'm messing something else.

The nextion displays have a built in processor on the driver card.? This is configurable with a supplied Windows client.

Essentially the nextion talks to the raduino with serial commands sending "meta commands".? E.g. I am now on 3.512.245 MHz.??? Or in the other direction, "LSB selected".?? In codes of course!

This provides complete independence between the display software and the hardware control of the rig.?? People can come up with their on UX for the display independent of a standardised protocol being developed to interface with the CEC firmware.

Makes a whole lot of sense to me!

Re: Can't get my uBitX to transmit CW on the Dial frequency

Yes, this is extremely confusing. The transmit frequency is offset by the amount of the sidetone setting. The software gives you no indication of this offset. ?The simplest solution would be for the display to change to the transmit frequency when CW is key down, and the "CW" mode is displayed. At least you would know what is happening.?

In the CEC firmware, using the manager program, you can check the "Enable Adjust CW Frequency" checkbox and the transmit frequency will be displayed instead of the receive frequency.

They have an ft of 900Mhz to 2Ghz which should be more than sufficient.

Can't get my uBitX to transmit CW on the Dial frequency

Hi All,
I've been puzzled by this for a while now...
Why my uBitX doesn't transmit CW on the frequency on the dial?
I'm using Ian's CEC Firmware V1.08.
On TX the dial frequency is offset by the amount set in the "CW Tone" menu setting, so I'm really transmitting on the Dial freq. + or - the CW sidetone setting, depending on the mode (CWL or CWU) I understand that is the audio frequency of the sidetone and the audio frequency of a CW signal perfectly at Zero beat, so we need to RECEIVE a few Hz up or down to be able to hear anything on CW but I don't get why it's not transmitting on the dial frequency?
Shouldn't all these settings affect just the sidetone and the CW receiving freq? Why is it offsetting the TX freq by that amount of the sidetone? is it a bug?
What am I missing here?

Thanks
Dan.

Re: Instruction Manual needs revision #ubitx

Jon,

Your manual is well written and easy to follow. If setting the
calibration and the bfo interact, you may need to add a note in the
manual that repeating the setup again may be needed because of the
interaction. Because of the various software out there I'm not sure
which loads might require this and which might not.

I would also put in a note that after power is applied to the ubitx you
should probably wait a few minutes (ten maybe?) for everything to
temperature stabilize. The crystal for the SI5351 will change frequency
slightly as the ambient temperature changes in the case.
