I was mobile in Northern Virginia and worked a bitx station in Missouri at about 7pm but there was strong qsb as he was very strong then quickly went down to barely readable.

what are your thoughts on doing the same with the Raspberry Pi Zero boards? in some areas such as my own they can be purchased for as little as $5 USD.?

Can anyone provide a picture on the location of K3 pins 1 and 5 on the circuit board? The schematic pin numbers do not match the manufacturers data sheet.

The only station i could really hear well tonight was Tom. I could hear some of the other stations on and off but I had an S9 noise level here tonight. Was using the FT-891 again tonight running 10 watts. Hopefully I'll get the BitX-40 back on the air by next weekend.?

The band seems to be pretty good right now, but I couldn't make anyone out on 7277.? I called on 7277 and 7177 several times, both at 7:20 PM ET and at 7:35 PM ET.

Rectifier fuse crowbar. #ubitx

 

I am using 2 fuses. One for the output transistors and one for everything else.? I was thinking of using one 6 amp rectifier that points in the direction of the power switch and then a wire from the power switch back to power each fuse.? It won't crowbar the fuse with wrong polarity but just stop current flow.? Voltage drop should be around .5 to .7 volts.? I could always parallel 2 of them to cut the voltage drop to 1/2.? What do you think?

Hi Chris,

It surely sounds like a frequency calibration problem, but it is also uncertain as to which piece of equipment contributes more to the error, i.e. the ¦ÌBITX or your frequency counter,.
Unless your frequency counter has a high precision reference like a GPS disciplined time base, or at least, a TCXO of recent vintage (crystals age), my suspicions would fall on them both.

What I would do:

1) Use the calibration tool of WSJT-x to check my ¦ÌBITX against a frequency/time standard station at the highest frequency I could get a clean signal from (14.996 MHz here from the Russian station). Note down the offset.

2) Do the same as in 1), but this time using my other rig in TX mode as a frequency generator and adjusting the dial frequency as to get the same offset as in 1).

3) The scope of ?step 2) is to establish a local frequency source of suitable power to be measured by the frequency counter, thing to be done here.

4) By now I would have 3 numbers:

a) The dial frequency of ¦ÌBITX

b) The offset of WSJT-x calibration tool

c) The indication of the frequency counter

Enough information to allocate both (?) frequency offsets.

My bitx40 really improved when I put a replacement mic in it. One day I was not getting any signal out of the transmitter. Tracked it back to the mic which was dead. Originally it worked for a month. The replacement seems stronger.?

In the spirit of fun, here's mine.? I can honestly say, I've never seen one like it. Made from three discarded Copenhagen cans, a junk box metric-pitch tactile switch, the supplied mic, a TRS socket, a thin piece of open cell foam in front of the mic, a thick piece of close cell foam surrounding and behind the mic, and one pop rivet to hold the PTT lever.? The mic is mounted on a circular plastic disk slightly smaller the the ID of the can which was cut from the third can and drilled to locate the mic. The PTT lever (cut with aviation snips)? works surprisingly well, and the mic is comfortable in the hand.? The socket allows the cord to be swapped out and possibly a stand in the future, where the mic can be held by a male plug. As far as sound quality, don't know yet.

1.072 will be tested and will be released as 1.073 Beta.
Several minor ones have been added.
Please wait for a day or two to download the code or firmware.?

Perhaps 1.07x will continue to be a Beta version.
Frequent formal firmware release seems to be inconvenient for some people, so I try to release it after various tests.

I think Version 1.061 is a stable version.?I know there is some nice firmware based on Version 1.061 and I will install it on my Spare uBITX.
Version 1.061 and later versions are also based on Version 1.061.
The Portable version and the various language versions are all excellent Firmware and I share code with them.

Please wait for a day or two?, I'll release version 1.073 beta after testing in various environments (including Linux).
