Junkyard uBITX #ubitx

I've seen a ton of beautiful uBITX builds, I thought I'd add my junkyard build that I just completed earlier for the other end of the spectrum.? My wife was going to throw the tin away, so I grabbed it.? Some drilling and snips later and it is alive!? I've got the WX audio chip, so I installed a 8ohm + 8ohm speaker and am running it at 12.0v from 13.8v with a step down that is pictured.

Tried some 80m and 40m earlier, but it's pretty horrible tonight.? I could hear a few folks, but no response to CQ so far.

How To Do a Search for Specific Message

Guy N7BIR

I think I’m getting dumber the older I get but I can’t figure out how to search for specific messages in our Group List. Putting the pound sign in front doesn’t seem to work, and just putting the message number in doesn’t help. Any Search gurus out there?

Anybody remember this from your grandpa's magazine stash ?

That looks like a great kit for the price. I spent more than that for just
a Weller SP40NK 40W soldering iron (with 3 tips) from the local Home
Depot. Of course, I already had all the other things on-hand, such as
third-hand, brass tip cleaner, Kester 63/37 rosin core solder, desoldering
wick, soldering iron stand, temperature controller, and so forth.

Recently, I got into SMD soldering, so I added a hot-air gun,
a toaster oven (re-purposed as a reflow oven), and a syringe of solder
paste.

If you are new to soldering electronics, be aware that there are practice
kits available for both through-hole and SMD soldering practice. These
kits come with an etched PCB, as well as all the components. Usually,
they will also be a functional circuit of some sort or another, so you can
test to see if you have done a good soldering job, or not.

Good lighting, a clean work area, and a magnifying glass or loupe to
inspect your work as you build your kit are also must-haves.

Good Luck with your new Soldering Station!

Re: adrino

Which starter kit?

Having recommended this kit, figured I might as well get one.? Arrived today:
? ??? ??

Haven't played with it yet, but have inspected the box contents.
Impressive!? It all looks quite useful.
You'd be hard pressed to buy all the stuff they give you for the same $30.

The next even mildly interested young relative or acquaintance of mine may well get one.
But not this one, I think I'll keep it.

Vince, Mike, Randy and all

Thank you Mikde and Randy.
And congratulations on communicating normally with your computer. Vince

Version 0.27 is a slightly older version, but it is okay.?
I will release new firmware in a few days. Upgrade uBITX Manager with uBITX firmware at that time.
The new firmware adds WSPR functionality and has several bug fixes and improvements.?

Re: uBITX Manager

Vince

Please check the link below.

uBITX Manager communicates with uBITX which KD8CEC Version's firmware uploaded.
Please turn off uBITX and check the version that appears.

If the link above does not work, please tell us which uBITX firmware version you are using, uBITX Manager version.

Ian,
I am having difficulties trying to get uBITX Mgr v0.2 to read from UBITX.? I've tried the resisitor solution and the capacitor solution with no data showing in Manager.? The display does show db:40000000 and second line the standard LSB and Frequency.
any suggestions (from anyone would be appreciated)

Re: Anyone with a good working configuration for CW with the KD8CEC software

Ian, thank you for the reply. Yes, please send your configuration file.? That would be most helpful.? My email address is: davidaker@....
I'm looking forward seeing your new release when it comes out.

Re: Anyone with a good working configuration for CW with the KD8CEC software

David

1. If the reception frequency of CW is different from the transmission frequency, it can be easily solved by uBITX Manager.
In uBITX Manager, if 'Shift Display Frequenc on CWL and CWU Mode' is checked, uncheck it.
I had this option so nice that it was used automatically.?

2.uBITX_Manger Backup file contains Calibration values,?
Please make your own uBITX configuration information as a backup file first. and upload another user backup file to your uBITX after modifying Calibration and BFO.

I have uBITX configuration backup files for several users. If you want, I will send my configuration file to your personal e-mail.

3.A new version of KD8CEC with WSPR functionality will be released in a day or two. Several bugs have been fixed and some improvements have been made.
?In the new? version, I are considering not to use avove #1 Option ( ?'Shift Display Frequenc on CWL and CWU Mode'??) automatically.
?I will listen to users' opinions and make a decision.

I'm having trouble getting the TX and RX frequencies to match on CW.? If anyone has a good configuration for this, would you please post or send me the uBITX_Mgr .btx file.
Many thanks,

Sorry you got an Internal Server Error.? These occur periodically when the server runs out of memory (i.e. whe 6000 BITX20 list members go to the website all at the same time!).? They clear within a few seconds to around a minute, and only occur every couple of days.? Sometimes they are the result of Denial of Service attempts.?

Some things to check:

1) Have you checked that you are connecting to your uBITx (e.g. in the Arduino IDE)?
2) Have you selected the Hamlib FT817 as the rig and the correct port?
3) Have you the correct baud rate setting and stop bit?

??? 38400 baud 1 stop bit.

I don't have HRD so can't really comment on "how" you do this! may be helpful

Re: Modifying Bitx40 BPF band pass filter

Final update: I restored the resistor values to their original sate and instead added an amp stage (half of Bitx bidirectional amp) and that gave me a much stronger (+15 dB) and more stable DDS/VFO signal. Instead of adding windings to the toroids in the BPF I increased the the capacitance of the 3 tuned circuits in the BPF to 125 pF (instead of the 100 pF in the original design) and that placed the 7.000 to 7.200 exactly in the peak of the filter. It was a matter of trial and error but got it working.

BPF is perfect now. Thanks all!

Re: a Little Gun Shy #ubitx-help #ubitx

Ok.
I've checked out your site before...
Just was gun shy to ensure i had the farhan load..
So your steps are fine ..
reloaded Farhan no problem. all good
then did IanLee's version...uploaded fine now to review his site for the menu settings.
Still No CAT control with HRD..;=((

The KD8CEC Memory Manager requires mods to the stock firmware or installation of Ian's firmware to work.

Check out the guide at:? ? and feed back with any issues, as I want to get this right!
