Re: DDS/VFO output #bitx40

I don't have a scope but I think that would be normal. In the uBitx Farhan drives the diode mixers from the Si5351 (3v output) via a small attentuator pad. In the Bitx40, Q7 to Q9 are left over from the analogue vfo. If you wanted to drive with a cleaner square wave you could rebuild it to be the same as the uBitx. If you want to really clean up the 7Mhz output (and get rid of the 7.2MHz birdie) you need to use the vfo at 19MHz and change the 12 MHz oscillator to be on the low side of the IF.

Re: uBITX Wire Up Drawing error

Don't know how i missed this, but i did and have been operating with my Volume pot wired wrong according to the wiring diagram. I can't say as I have noticed any difference since changing it. My audio chip ran cool before and after and sounded great. Oh well, I will sleep better knowing it's right now.

I always use the cheap route Indian Post and everything not on back order has taken between 3 to 4 weeks tops. My last Bitx40 showed up maybe 2.5 weeks?

Mine are sent to Killeen, Texas.

BITX QSO Afternoon/Night, Sunday, February 25, 3PM/7PM Local Time, 7277 kHz in North America, 7177 kHz elsewhere

John P

BITX QSO Afternoon/Evening, Sunday, February 25, 3PM & 7PM Local Time, 7277 kHz in North America, 7177 kHz elsewhere.

Join us as we make contacts from BITX40 to BITX40 on 7.277 MHz in 40 meters!

This is a worldwide event for BITX40 stations starting at 7pm in each time zone. To participate, call CQ BITX on Sunday, starting at?3PM and/or 7PM?your local time. The BITX QSO Night continues through the evening and conditions usually improve after sunset, so it is worthwhile to participate later in the evening.

Suggested Best Operating Practices:

Work at QRP power levels unless conditions require more power.
Call and listen for CQ BITX on the hour and every quarter hour.
It is helpful if you call CQ BITX with your callsign, name and location.?
Repeat your callsign a number of times during your CQ BITX and during QSO's.
Start a QSO by confirming the callsign, location, name and signal report of the other operator.
Say the callsign, name and location of the other operator so others can hear.
If the frequency is busy, avoid long conversations.
After your initial QSO is complete, ask if there are any other stations who would like to contact.

Report your QSO's, discuss propagation, noise, signal reports, audio reports, antenna type, etc. in this thread.

This is an undirected, scheduled event.? The BITX QSO Night relies on you to call CQ BITX to initiate contacts with other stations, so warm up that final and transmit a few calls on Sunday evening.? Talk to you then!

I got my uBITX ... adventurous shipment !

Hi all, some of you have been writing about delay and others points about the uBitx shipment.

If I do recall, my parcel was taken by the indian postal service around 9AM local time on december 16 2017? After twoday was shipped outside India. I could not trace any position around the world. Maybe a second hand italian postal camel was the carrier ... by end of december no news. Beginning of january till end no news. On Feb 2nd 2018 it arrived in Milan (1000km north from my QTH) at the international postal exchange. It was there till the 5th ... then no news. On the 13th it arrived at the postal customs site near Milan, 30km away. It was there till the 17th. then shipped. It arrived on the 20th in Bari, 40km north of my QTH. On the 21st the postman came to my house but I was not at home. The ticket left reported tha it was avalable on the 23rd february at my town main PT office ... but I had to show up with some money: nearly 20€ for import duty and nearly 8€ for postal handling. It did not get lost !!! Hi.

Hi everybody

You may be interested in how uBITx.net is going.

To date in February 2018, there have been 170,000 page hits, with 14220
visits by 8214 unique visitors.? Together, all those 8000+ uBITx fans
have shifted 14Gb of data! This shows just how big the interest is in
the uBITx.? I host around 25 sites, and this is now our second most
popular site.

I am still catching up with reading new emails on the list posted during
the last few days.? I have been otherwise occupied with a visit by
Eugeny UA3AHM and time out at the saltmine.

Since the site launch less than a month ago,? a total of 68 news stories
have been posted.? There will be a few more posted today. These stories
are running about 3 per day, drawn primarily from the approx. 100 email
postings a day on the BITX20 email list (i.e. 3% of all emails to the
list are "news worthy").? This is a pretty interesting statistic in itself.

I am still gob-smacked by the extent of hacking already going on with
the uBITx ...? eclipsing a year's worth of hacking on the BITX40. There
are already three software variants available - each with unique
features.?? Clearly, Ashhar Farhan has a tiger by the tail, as he has
two months of back orders of the uBITx to clear before shipping ex stock.

Hopefully, is filling a helpful niche in the ecosystem for the
uBITx.? It's purpose is to document and categorise that which is of
enduring value from the BITX20 list about the uBITx. I have not had the
time I would like to distill out the "nuggets" into guidance like I had
hoped.?? However, I guess that will come with time ... It would also be
nice to find the time to work on hacking my own uBITx! ? But I do hope
to get into the workshop this weekend and work on an interesting mod of
one of my BITX40s.

Don't forget that you can volunteer to help out with uBITx.net. It would
be great to have one or two others assisting with the daily collation of
news items.? This takes an hour or two a day at most...? I can prepare a
simple guide? to assist volunteers in managing this.? No coding skills
are needed ... just good editing skills, and the ability to track down
an appropriate graphic to go with each item.

Re: uBITX AGC - Adafruit TPA2016, A Success! #ubitx

Thanks for taking the time to reply and posting the library files, Nik.? I certainly appreciate it.? I have replaced the files in my TPA2016 library with your modified files and recompiled my sketch.? The results are still the same - almost no audio.? As I said in my last post, connecting the TPA2016 module as a basic amplifier, with no firmware control, the audio is very low.? There is no background noise and only signals at S9 or better can be heard.? The same module installed in a BiTX40ver3 as a basic amp to replace the LM386 works well.? To me the issue appears to be low drive in to the TPA2016.? I'll keep digging and I'd definitely like to see more detail in regards to your implementation.?

Thanks again -- Mike

I think that I had a similar problem to what has been described. Someone suggested that I check to make sure that I wasn't using a monaural plug for the speaker. Yikes!! That was the problem!

You must use a stereo plug, and wire it correctly, or you will short the audio output which will lead to the audio distortion at anything but lowest volume levels. It also explains the hot audio chip.

Some of you have missed my point. I do not care if the Raduino is not the same as between BITX40 or uBITX.

I have plans on using uBITX without the Raduino it comes with. Why pay for something I'm going to throw in the junkbox or waste basket.

I am sure many people will be inquiring to this way to buy in the near future. I recommend it be offered that way. as a sale of something is better than no sale at all.
