Linear Technologies LTspice is a free, powerful and versatile program. You can easily draw excellent schematics and print them
or email them. Many of the schematics you have seen on this reflector have been drawn in LTspice.

Re: Erratic Tuning bitx40!

I had this problem one time and it was the 100k tune pot opened. Just before failure the pot tuning was unstable.
and noticed the wiper action was getting rough.? I was using a cheaper blue Chinese pot at that time.

Re: Ownership

We are continously producing now, however, we are not able to meet the demand. Hence, the backlog still remains. I am hopeful that into early march, we will get past the backlog and start shipping ex-stock.?

I am not very active on the mailing list these days because I am heads down, making test jibs, documenting the test procedures, writing arduino code to automate as much as we can. I hope to wrap it up and get back to homebrewing by the end of this week after handing over these jigs and software to the HF signals folks. Some of this stuff is quite neat and of interest to regular builders as well. i will post these circuits and code shortly.

I thought I'd just mention this here in the passing. When HF Sigs decided to kit the radio, one of my conditions was that they ask for the purchaser's callsign and then verify the shipping address with their address on record at . Unless they quote a very good reason, they have refused to ship to other addresses. i know that this is not enough of a cover, but for pirates, it is mighty easier to just buy a second hand marine or hf rig on ebay than try getting a kit from us after two months time and then solder it up.

Re: uBITX without Raduino

Not very different.? My uBitx Raduino is different than my Bitx40 Raduino in the following ways:
? ? Has uBitx firmware pre-loaded (but you can load any firmware you want through the Arduino IDE)
? ? Has the LCD contrast pot mounted opposite where the LCD plugs in, so you can easily adjust it
? ??The 16 pin P3 connector has a 16 pin right angle header installed, not a 5 pin KF2510 type connector

Perhaps there are other changes, but I doubt they are of much consequence.
Schematics for Bitx40 and uBitx Raduinos appear to be identical.?
So either rig could use the other's Raduino, just reprogram the firmware and deal with P3.
The resourceful amateur should have no trouble either replacing the P3 connector or adapting the cables.

Here is a pot controled version of my original zener power control. since i am an anti-rail go i added high limit and lo limit resistors.?
when i was young i persued a second class commercial operators license. in the log everyday the on air guy had to write down plate voltage and current. those 2 multiplie provided the FCC required station wattage. that was at the transmitter? so swr, connector, and line loss were not factored. P=I x E. this was not the RF OUT or the effective radiated power.??
i will be adding a simple accuate circuit add on to this to report voltage and current supplied to the output stage using 2 analog inputs to my system health display.

The G6LBQ multi-band Bitx uses the MC1350P, but the input and output impedances are different. I read a post about it has other problems, too. I don’t think anyone has posted a fix, however. I’ve even looked on the data sheet to see if the impedance was listed, but I didn’t see anything.

Re: More pins for the Raduino! An RF gain control for the uBITX!

It's workable, (lotsa work though!), but at that stage, the area of the thing becomes antenna-like. I can remember my elmer, (RIP Walt), demonstrating how a shielded air-cooled dummy load could be heard for a block with a portable transceiver. It was very directional, but still...

If you don't want the Raduino, I suspect it would be quite easy to sell here in the forum.

You might search the archives for this discussion.

I have already built and tried the W7ZOI AGC. ?It works ok in the UBITx with the replacement the first IF amp with a dual gate FET...second gate used for AGC voltage. ?Ive now abandoned that work because its way too complicated for this simple radio... and instead using the AD8361 RMS detector and LP filter and the AD8367 variable amp/ attenuator. All that is required is the addition of an integrator, easily supplied by an OP amp (additional op amp on part used for S-meter by amplifying AGC voltage). This circuit is about the size of a coin and works ?exceedingly well.?
