Re: Dec 16 order of uBitx received Feb 10 via India Post

I just measured a board. It's 4.9" x 4.7 x 1.1. You can shrink the 4.7 down to 4.5 with a different heat sink. It'll be a tight fit.

Sounds like they have it in stock.

Do you know how deep a box I need for the BITX40 with Raduino?

I'm planning to repurpose my flaky IC-25/AE (5"x5"x2") for it.

Hello all! I received my bitx40 last wednesday (total newcomer).
Thanks Jerry! I had the issue of the broadcast station at los volume setting but after soldering a 10nF capacitor between cursor and ground of the volume potentiometer, the station dissapeared! ?
Thanks for the advice!?

just ordered 2 pcs of KY-040 rotary encoders.
How can I implement your version of fast tune for the BITX40 Raduino?

Re: uBITX woes, feeling disheartened. #ubitx

Sorry all the voltages you mention are wrong!

Pin 5 & 8 MUST have 12v if your board is connected to power supply 12v. No 12v means RX will not work..

Pin no 1 (Square pad) can have 12v ONLY on TX.

I suspect that you are not measuring properly or counting the pins wrong... cant be this way off.

Blown by nearby transceiver #bitx40help

After doing some tests with the rig, I made the mistake of transmitting near the Bitx40 with an ICOM 725 with a badly isolated tuner,
?
A quick flash, smoke, and the bitx40 that was only on, no antenna connected, died. No more tranmission or power output.
?
What components should I start checking or replacing?

Re: Strong carrier on transmit. #bitx40help

Dale Brooks KG7SSB

Hi Bob, the diode package you are talking about was substituted for the 2 diodes and pot with the thought that the packaged diodes were a very good match and the pot was not necessary. My BITX40 came the same way and I haven't had any issues with a strong carrier. I have built this circuit on a home brew rig and used two individual diodes and pot with better results than the BITX without the pot adjustment. But, you shouldn't be getting a strong signal on the output without audio. If you have a scope check the mic audio amp circuit and make sure that there is no oscillations with the mic disconnected. You can also check the input to the diode package legs(D20) and see that you are getting equal signal on both diodes. It's possible that one of the wires on the transformer is not making a good contact on the board. It will be a 12mhz signal from the carrier oscillator input.?
I'm sure others will have more ideas and tests you can perform to isolate this problem. Good Luck and let us know what's happening. Dale kg7ssb

Could someone explain this modification and if anyone else has had this problem. Will see if any DC is getting back into modulator.? Thank you Bob WB2TFG

It was a change HF Signals made about a year ago and has worked fine. The dual diode is better balanced than you would get via the pot.

Did you do any of the mods to the board, like perhaps the one that involves a 10K resistor to the area of the balanced modulator for CW?

Vince.

apparently took 24 hours to clear U.S. customs

no worries, it should be delivered here Monday, 12 February

The project is on the right track.
Everything is already in a metal box (cookie), it is already possible to transmit, getting about 12W in 40m. and approximately 7 in 20m. For the other bands I do not have antennas.
QSO's in 40m are relatively easy to do, depending on the propagation, but even with my precarious antenna I have been able to perform QSO's with EA8 and HB9, in addition to practically all EA. Keep in mind that I use a mic preamp that has some compression.
The front-end has changed, being governed by an arduino mega2560 pro and a 2.4 "touch screen.
It is possible to adjust the frequencies of BFO, IF, CW Tone and an offset if necessary for the VFO. For the Si5351 the calibration factor and the outputs can be adjusted.
As a disadvantage, this Arduino works at 16MHz and it seems that, together with the screen, it introduces some noise. Working now to eliminate it.
I just uploaded a small video showing all that: ? ??
or search for "ubitx EB7ME" on YouTube

Thank you very much Farhan for your great idea.
