Re: Tuning clicks on bitx40 #bitx40help

This may be due to the si5351 library version that is used by the original
stock firmware v1.01
Try upgrading the firmware
It has built in si5351 routines (no external library) and some other
patches as well to reduce the noise.

Using shielded wires to/from the volume pot also helped a lot in my case.
But I must confess I never got rid of the clicks completely. I can still
hear them when the antenna is disconnected.

Today the following items were added to

The following news story from the day before also had significant additions as a result of a new email posting on the BITX20 group:

Thanks for all the positive feedback to the launch.? I am pleased that people find the site is heading in the right direction. I have been busy taking on comments and making some changes to the website.? I have fixed the issue with the news categories and tag cloud not working properly.? The website will no doubt evolve further over the next week or two!?? But, I didn't do much on the mods summaries today ... too much other stuff to do.

I have had a number of suggestions for content come in, many of which were actioned immediately.? If you want to feature a product that enhances the uBITx just write to me. I will find some way to do this.

I have had one offer of help, which I will be taking up!? If a few people are willing to add newsworthy items on a roster basis, the burden of keeping the website up to date will be eased. The "FAQ content" will change more slowly than the news content.? Good writers are needed, but there is not a lot of work as content is sourced directly from email list postings.?? Summarising postings (or elaborating if they are too cryptic) and improving readability, correcting spelling or grammar is all that is required.?? I am linking each to the BITX20 email reference to make it easy for people to browse the relevant thread.

A typical day will probably have around 2 news items.? Today was a bit atypical, as list activity was way up, and there were several interesting developments today!

I will respond separately to the email from the list moderators.

PiZeroW Controlling a uBitx

Diver Martin

Anyone thought about using a PiZeroW (or even a regular RPi) for controlling a uBitx?

I thought to myself, while pondering my design decisions, "Hey, a PiZeroW is $10.? A Teensy3.2 is $20..."? Looking quickly at the pinout, it has spi and i2c, and a few GPIO's.? I don't have any experience programming the raspberry pis, but adding an i2s audio dac (or two) could easily do DSP audio, spectrum display, etc... I have my RpiZeroW hooked up to a 3.5" TFT touchscreen display I got off amazon... ()

Mostly just curious.? Doubt I'll change directions with my top mod PCB, but it certainly could be an interesting option (The RpiZeroW consumes ~250mA @ 5V as I recall)

Re: uBITX woes, feeling disheartened. #ubitx

The band change relays operate only when the PTT is pressed in the uBitx. I have made
mods to keep the relays operating in RX and you can hear the band change then only.

Disadvantage is that the RX current consumption increases when relays are always on.

Re: uBITX Firmware (CEC) 0.30 released (Test version). #ubitx

Dave

Thanks for your information.

My modified code (Ron's cw keying) does not use A7 for factory shipping users.
Until now, the firmware concept was applied without modification of the hardware.
I am going to end this project because I do not have any further improvements without hardware modifications.

When additional uBITX?order arrives, I try to do a variety of fun H / W hacks. At that time, I will use A7 as Paddle and connect to S.Meter.

Ian?

The v.30 with Ron’s CW Keying code does include adding the 4.7k pull-up at A7, as a modification to hardware.

I’m planning on adding both 4.7K chip resistors directly on the pads of the Raduino so there are no loose resistors to mount at the key jack(s).

I am writing for someone who is interested and test.? If I get an error report or a fix, I'll fix it and make it into github's 0.31 branch.

Here is a brief description of the change from 0.30.
improved CW Keying, Frequency Tune and CW performance according to users' requirements.
In particular, CW Keying applied ron's logic for use with original hardware. also made it possible to set the CW Key ADC range to reduce errors in CW.
ADC monitoring function is added to know the exact resistance and key contact status.
I thought that if you set your own ADC range using the measured values here, you would get an error.?I need to test these things, so I leave this post.

removed all existing sources related to frequency tune.?And i applied threshold, weight about speed, and steps. The problem of changing the frequency at the moment of catching the knob has probably disappeared. when the threshold has been exceeded, start frequency changing,?i added some logic to prevent the thresholds from becoming unnatural.
If you want to fine-tune, slowly turn it and the threshold will be applied continuously and change very slowly.
The tune steps you can select now are 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, but you can change them in uBITX Manager 0.31 (now working)
You can change the step by pressing the function key for a long time. If you keep pressing it, Diallock will work.

The ham band movement applied at 0.28 was set to 0.30, so that region1 was set as the default.
Of course, you can change to the previous operation state by pressing the function key in the band select menu for a long time.
And like the 0.28 version, you can set up to 10 frequency bands in uBITX Manager to suit your country or your liking.

Please refer to below for the improvements and how to upload firmware and more detail.
The source and compiled firmware can be found in the release below link.

First Microbitx QSO

Using a hamstick hanging out of my apartment window, I just made my first qso (ve3rb) with my microbitx! ?On 75meters no less!!! ?Often I listen on this band with my mkars80, but I never transmit. ?(Winter field day is active!)
I also just received an Arduino and recently got W8TEE’s “projects” book. Slowly, I’m going to teach myself how to “code.” ?
I’m going to play with this radio as-is for a while and learn a lot more before changing the code or doing hardware mods. I actually find the tuning easy to use and the tx/rx pop doesn’t freak me out because I listen mostly.
I put the radio in an test instrument case I got at a hamfest many years ago. I only had to buy the little 10cm cables to connect separate the lcd from the raduino (but it took three weeks because the amazon vendor sent the wrong cables -m/m- the first time. Ugg! ?They said keep them and they offered a partial refund. The correct ones came today!)
These photos show part of the assembly process.

Have a look at the Digole range of displays. They can be driven via UART, I2C or SPI. Jumper selectable on the back.

Various sizes available. They have an on board PIC which simplifies the usage of them and reduces code space required in Arduino.

They are not the cheapest displays around but having bought serval and with no problems of poor quality, can reccommend them.
