Re: Another side tone question
For anyone having the same problem, I quickly wired up my little lm386 amp board, and it looks like it will work well. I will insert it between the headphone jack switch and the speaker. I will have to pad the input so that things are kept to a reasonable level, but the sidetone/rx audio balance in the speaker now sounds great. Next up, the little fet audio mute circuit to get rid of that annoying pop when switchingb to tx

Ah poop!
Having a bit of a time getting things to compile. I seem to have all the libraries, but end up with a error of: C:\Users\User\Documents\Arduino\libraries\digitalWriteFast/digitalWriteFast.h:1:23: fatal error: WProgram.h: No such file or directory ?#include "WProgram.h" Mike, WB8VGE BTW... last version of the code complies with no issues |

Re: Yet another magnetic loop antenna
John, this looks really cool. Like yourself, I have a limited amount of real estate here to play with. I have the mfj mag loop, and even though it is only 3 feet across, single turn, I have had excellent success with it on 40. Looks lIke yours will be much more efficient.
I'll also put in a plug for Kitsandparts. I have ordered numerous boards from them over the years, and they worked well for a number of projects I have built. Unfortunately, they have really scaled back on the rf toolkit boards, as you can see from the number of items that are discontinued. I built a complete 6 band cw qrp rig using stuff mostly from them and N3ZI Not sure why you couldn't get the swr bridge to work though...? |
Re: Cw - another quirk
Don't do what I did. I thought it would be good to put a capacitor across the function? button? to keep any potential stray RF across off the line. I grabbed a .02mfd from the junk box...figured it would work. Unfortunately, I forgot that during power up, as the capacitor charges, it will hold the line low, and the Raduino reverts to default settings.
Otherwise the rig works great! Just tuning around d and testing, I've made 2 cw contacts, and also had a nice ssb qso with another ve3 station located about 150 km west of me. Reports of s6 with good audio. Not bad for a marginal antenna system! |

W8TEE Software Release 1.07-09
Jack Purdum
All:
I have uploaded the new software for the BITX40 color TFT display and VFO PCB. The new release fixes a number of bugs, especially in the display and the processing of the encoder. Users should read through the source file as there is a lot of information in it that might be helpful. Support for the DS3234 Real Time Clock has also been added. Future improvements will allow the user to set the time and date at runtime. Right now, those parameters are set at compile time using the time and date objects of the host PC. (Hard-coded date/time constants are not used.) The manual has also changed a little and a small trouble shooting section has been added. Using a keyer, the RTC, or debugging requires uncommenting one or more symbolic constants that appear near the top of the source code file, after the #include pre-processor directives. Non-standard library files have their download sites given in the source file as a comment after the #include directive. Keep me posted on your use of the hardware and software. I'm particularly interested in those who are working to port Allard's features to this environment. Jack, W8TEE |

Re: Zero Beating Bitx40
Similar to what Jerry suggested I connected my KX3 to 50 ohm dummy load that I had built into an Altoids box. I opened the box to let a bit of RF leak and connected a jumper wire to the BIX40 antenna center. Between the wire position and the KX3 output I could get any level signal I wanted.
