PD8W code - TFT Display version - Taking another Look - Button issues - Solved
Having looked at the PD8W code for the Bitx40 - (which uses a Si5351 , rotary encoder and a tft display) a few weeks ago and not being able to figure out ?the issue of erratic or no control when using push buttons. I put the code away and worked on some hardware.
A few days ago I thought I would try again to see if I could figure out the problem. ?Well, I got it to work. The first issue was a hardware one. I had tried pull ups and downs and every wiring configuration I could find, but no go. Then I tried one more config and Wow - the push buttons now work - smooth transitions, no jumping etc etc I wired up the rotary encoder and used the rotary push button switch on the back of the rotary for the vfo frequency time step - works great. Works well on the bitx40. Now I am looking at how to make the MODE - LSB / USB etc work. ?I can control the mode functions on the display but it does not actually change to USB on the Bitx I attached the button configuration and the sketch I am using? Hope there is some interest and can help figure out ?the mode issue. Thanks Joe VE1BWV |
Re: A Good Book
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI had " The Art of Electronics", loaned it to a young Engineer!? Never got it back! Expensive Book, $60.? Kind of an odd book, goes
randomly describing circuit design? Useful?? and interesting. I would advise the free ones mentioned here, a much better deal. Hans Summer describes the first couple years of Electrical Engineering in College.

Re: A Good Book
Demaw, Goodman, Mccoy were pertinent in their own times and did produce great stuff. One could always visit them for inspiration and nostalgia. the experimental methods in rf design is really the most contemporary book. It not only updates but also points out the mistakes made by traditional understanding. For instance, the hum from direct conversion was not understood by the earlier works. Similarly, working with hexfets, broadband amplifiers, etc. The things that make homebrewing so much easier now are not found in the old texts. So, if I were you i would buy the EMRFD. My second recommendation would be the Art of Electronics. - f On 4 Jul 2017 6:12 a.m., "Michael Hagen" <motdog@...> wrote:

A ton of good information can be found searching the QST archives at I've learned so much by reading the articles by hand summers and Rick campbell....now I need to search the other names mentioned in this thread. 73 AC3AX On Jul 3, 2017 5:19 PM, "John Backo via Groups.Io" <iam74=[email protected]> wrote: I agree. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI had a cable that was +5 power only, no Data! I guess for charging stuff? Yikes, cut in half and into trash.

Re: Pins and colors
Mike WA1MAD What OS (Windows, Linux, OS-X, Android, etc.) are your running? Which IDE version are you running (1.8 is the latest)? On Linux....disconnect your USB cable, on a terminal enter "lsusb". ??????????? then plug in your USB cable and again enter "lsusb". ??????????? the difference between listings should be the USB port that is ??????????? connected to the Arduino ttl/USB port.? On Linux, problems might be: ??????????? Arduino type selected does not match the actual Arduino that is connected. ??????????? USB cable is not connected ??????????? 5V is not getting to the Arduino (shorted peripheral...?) ??????????? Arduino is DEAD!?? 8-( Only Linux here so I can't help you with other operating systems. Sometimes you need to install the drivers that are distributed with the IDE. Look in the drivers subdirectory if the IDE directory and run the *.EXE that applies to your system. Re: Am radio stations
Radio Havana broadcasts a monstrously powerful, ridiculously wide bandwidth signal out Cuba on 6.0 MHZ. The 2nd harmonic of that frequency is 12 MHZ, which is the same frequency as the IF stage. I've picked them up at 7.035, which is supposed to be a QRP calling frequency. If there is any other carrier at or near that frequency, it knocks Radio Havana out. I also find that when I orient my antenna East to West, but turn slightly south of west (heading 260), Radio Havana falls into one of my antenna's null zones.? Although, listening to socialist propaganda on the CRI re-broadcasts is always amusing.... On Mon, Jul 3, 2017 at 12:59 PM, chris gress <Chrisg0wfh@...> wrote:
