Re: Conflicting information

While not easy, you could use Vin on the Nano board to supply an external 7-20V to the Nano. Attached is a picture of a small board that does a little processing on the power before it goes to the Mega 2560 Vin. The red and black leads barely visible on the right come from the input PS source. I will likely run my B40 at 13.8V most of the time, as that's what my external PS is set at. The two yellow and black pins on the right side of the regulator pull that voltage off for the PA and (maybe) a fan. The yellow and black pins on the left go to the power connection on the TFT/VFO board. That board uses a buck converter to drop the voltage down to 7.6V, which goes to Vin of the Mega. The Mega provides the 3.3V and 5V needed by the rest of the board (i.e., the Ad9850 and the TFT display). A test with some suspect test equipment suggests the board draws about 25mA. There is no 12 volt connector on the Raduino processor. There is on the R3 or 2560. The information you supplied refers to them. The 328 is powered from the 5 volt regulator on the Raduino board OR the USB connection. No automatic selection exists on? the Raduino. ? v/r Fred W4JLE ? Let's see if I can help. The Arduino site says this.- Power The Arduino/Genuino Uno board can be powered via the USB connection or with an external power supply. The power source is selected automatically. External (non-USB) power can come either from an AC-to-DC adapter (wall-wart) or battery. The adapter can be connected by plugging a 2.1mm center-positive plug into the board's power jack. Leads from a battery can be inserted in the GND and Vin pin headers of the POWER connector. The board can operate on an external supply from 6 to 20 volts. If supplied with less than 7V, however, the 5V pin may supply less than five volts and the board may become unstable. If using more than 12V, the voltage regulator may overheat and damage the board. The recommended range is 7 to 12 volts. Automatically selected are the key words here. I had an UNO die because I plugged in the usb while it was already powered by DC jack.?This might have been a cheap chinese clone issue. I would advise against any DC power when connecting the Raduino for programming. The USB port has plenty of power for the Raduino.? |

Re: Europe to States BitX QSO
Hi Andy, Thanks for reply.Lets try CW & SSB. SSB will be the real test. What frequency do your phased verticals like? I do not have my Moxon up and my inverted v is tuned for upper end of 40m (7.3MHz) but I can use it anywhere on 40. I will listen from 0300z to 0400z and watch my email or DXSUMMIT for your freq. Where would you like to operate?? 73, Willy On Tue, Jun 6, 2017 at 6:23 AM, Andy <andy9a3jh@...> wrote: I don't believe VOACAP :) especially during Sunrise... so we can try next days in my SR, about 03 UTC. |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýGreat idea. I am a regular check in there too.? Early check ins actually start at 10AM. And there are many relay stations so getting in is easy.On 6/6/2017 8:04 AM, peatmoss - ki6ssi

In the afternoon a few of us check 7.812 between 1-3 in the afternoon. No schedule, just park it there and a make a few calls and see if anyone is around. Probably not a good idea! Looks like we have 17 stations on the left side of the continent so
far: WV7H, Enoch Utah
K7WXW, Portland, OR
VE7SXS, in Terrace, BC
K7SWF. Lake Havasu, AZ
KI6SSI - El Dorado Hills, CA
N7CCX - Portland metro area, Oregon
WB0NPM - Escondido CA
KE7RTV - Sparks, NV
W7LTG - Spanish Springs, NV
KK6RPX, Albion CA
KF7RSF, Bandon, Oregon
KI7KLT, Camas, WA
KK6WCG - Folsom, CA
W1JDS - Sunnyvale, CA??
KA7GPP, ?Arlington, WA
KK7ZD, Bothell, WA
N7PXY, Federal Way, WA
Makes me wonder the about the best way for us to connect. While chasing DX stations is fun, the odds are that the stations on this list could make contact fairly often. So, lets gather some opinions and ideas. Every other week QSO party? What time of day do you find 40 works best for west coast comms? Perhaps a daytime QSO party one week and an evening party the next? A WAWC (worked all west coast) net?
Also, there is a net in the AM called the Early Bird net and we have at least 4 BITX operators there every morning. 8AM, 7.186. Feel free to check in, bitx or QRO. In the afternoon a few of us check 7.812 between 1-3 in the afternoon. No schedule, just park it there and a make a few calls and see if anyone is around.
Thanks to all who responded and keep 'em coming. I'd love to be connecting regularly with other BITX operators as anyone who likes to tinker with a BITX is my kinda ham!

Re: Dhl customs cost to the usa
Here in Ontario dhl took about 2 days after leaving hgsigs. So total of 4 days. However customs was $28. In addition, PayPal gives an exchange rate lower than the market which increased cost. My total was over 100cdn.?
I think it was worth it because dhl has awesome tracking and super fast shipping. ? Jamie VA3RLF? |

Check the speaker first with your meter on continuity / beeper setting. Your volume control may be the problem. Just short the brown and red wires and see with volume set at max. Mine packed up when I tried to tin the leads! Raj At 06-06-2017, you wrote:
First time builder here. Got my bitx40 all together. The unit powers up but I hear no static. The instructions say I should hear a low hiss even without it connected to an antenna. I hear nothing. Anyone have an idea on where to start? Failing that, anyone want a project? I should just stick to built rigs. I have poor eyesight and suffer from headaches all the time so I'm sure it's something I did. :( |
Low mic gain and rf power
Jirka
Hello everybody.
? My name is Jirka, callsign OK1IEC, and I am new in the group. Recently I bought BITX40v3 and built it in the Al box. RX is ok, comparable? with my K2 in normal conditions. The problem is with transmitting ¨C I am not able to reach more than about 1W of output power shouting very loudly into electret mike. Mike change does not help, pot R136 is in the full gain position. I? decided to do some measurements: I? used Audacity software to produce 1 kHz audio and connected it to Mic pins of BITX40 via 47uF capacitor.? I need 280mV p-p AF signal to get 6W RF output power on my dummy load. AF signal levels:?? Mic (C121): 280 mV p-p;? C122: 410 mV p-p RF signal levels: C132: 1.3V p-p;? C134: 3.45V p-p;? C141: 3.25V p-p; C152: 8.6V p-p; C155: 51V p-p; Antenna: 50V p-p. It seems the RF chain is ok but? AF stage Q12 has suspectly low gain. Components seem to be ok, Q12 Uc=10V, Ue=2.26V Any idea or advice appreciated. ? ? Trafo T4 in BFO mixer ??? BTW I see the difference between schematic (D15, D16, R106) and real components on the pc board. |
