Too Much Information?

Hello

Apparently my earlier email on the subject of traffic level was mutilated in the sending process...so here is a re-send:

This BITX group was started way back when Farhan first published his BITX20 design on <>
and has continued as more versions of the original BITX20 made themselves known.? With this history it has become the go-to location for both historical and up-to-date information regarding all things BITX.? As a result? the group is International, large, the amount of traffic is significant.?

Making thread descriptions truly representative of what is being discussed on that thread might help others select what to read versus what to automatically delete.? This only works though if we use definitive thread headers that describe and limit what is being discussed on that thread.

Anything that relates to BITX of any kind is probably a suitable discussion subject.? Discussions between people might be seem as technical information exchange by some and as just discussion by others.? It all depends on our personal interest and involvement.? The members of this group include persons with all levels of technical and non-technical expertise.? The group has a history and reputation of being friendly and helpful to others, and of discussing everything even remotely related to BITX. ? If we were to narrow the discussion parameters it might decrease the value of the group as a comprehensive repository of BITX information of all types.

Re: many too many

?Hello

?
Th
?is?
group was started way back when Farhan first published his design for the BITX20 on
??
<
?> and has evolved to include all the subsequent versions of BITX design.
?? That history has made this the one place to go for inclusive information regarding BITX designs, discussion, and help.?? Because of this history the topics discussed are far ranging and sometimes quite involved.? A discussion between two or more persons may be seen as a technical discussion by some and as just discussion by others with differing interests.? If it relates in any way to BITX it is probably appropriate for this group.

It is possible to filter what we read versus what we discard by using the thread names, but only if threads are kept on-topic and are not so broadly named as to not define what is being discussed.? I wonder it it might help to use the thread header to identify the topic being discussed (i.e. "BITX40 Mixer" or "BITX17A Microphone", etc.)?? Might work, but only if it were used by most...?

This is a large group that represents many interests and several levels of technical expertise.? Trying to drive the focus too tightly on one specific subject tends to limit the value as a general repository for all BITX related information and experiences.

How I manage the flood...

Go to?/g/BITX20/editsub and set email to a level you can live with. I like just the daily summary but many prefer none.? Then use the topic view /g/BITX20/topics on the website and read what you are interested in and the list reads almost like a forum.? The search could use some work but at least this converts the fire hose to a drinkable level.

Re: difficulties with raduino digital input pin A6

Yes perhaps, haven't tried that yet.
It might even still work as an analog input.
I'll try out this weekend, just out of curiousity.

Re: R15 and ADE-1 mixer getting very hot

raj jee,
?There is no heat without ade-1 in place even if the pins 1and 6 are connected with a wire to maintain continuity.
?
Thus it is clear that the trafo inside the mixer covering pins 1&6 is f\getting breakdown (short under real voltage application) to the secondary? and that has middle ground.

Perhaps it would be easy to check placing ade-1 on board and isolating pins 4&6? from ground. later one could connect one by one? pins 4 and 6.
It would show up?

?I finally suppose a case of insulation break down, in real working condition.

My guess is continuity between these pins but not between others.

I have a few but could not find it to confirm, maybe someone could confirm the above!

With the ADE not soldered, shine a bright light from the component side and check for shorts (most likely) between
4/5 and 6, trace all the way to Q7. Check if there is a short to ground at collector of Q7 or the track leading to it
from ADE pin 6.

Put the ADE back, without power and check for short to ground from ADE pin 1 and 6.
My guess is that only a short to ground between ADE pin 6 to Q7 can cause the ADE to heat up along with R15!

Re: difficulties with raduino digital input pin A6

Jack Purdum

On line 102 you will find:

#define PTT (A6)

which defines a symbolic constant named PTT. Because pins are initialized (normally) in setup(), either gloabl-search on PTT or look in setup() to see how that pin is intialized. At lines 1042, you will find:

? pinMode(PTT, INPUT);
? digitalWrite(PTT, HIGH);

This says we are reading PTT (or A6) as an input pin, and it starts out in a HIGH (5V) state. Most digital I/O pins are that way. This means that pressing the switch tied to PTT pulls the line LOW. You can verify this by searching on PTT and observing how the pin is being used.
