Re: BPF's

Thanks Ashhar.

I do the toroids solidly in place but thought a coating would help hold windings in place.

Re: Damage to SMT version bitx40 from nearby transmitter

Raj's suggestion of two back-to-back 2n4148 diodes between K1 pin 12 and ground?puts them only in the receive signal path. ?That seems the ideal spot.?

K1 pin 14 is in the transmit signal path, a?relatively low level signal from the exciter into Q13.
Perhaps you were looking at K2 when you suggested pin 14?
K2 pin 14 is only in the receive path, but does not have the benefit of the impedance of that long trace from K2 to K1, which might keep the diodes from blowing.

I have found that most three leg ceramic resonators are resistant to frequency pulling due to the two internal caps, some will pull further than others. YMMV.

Not a lot of wiggle room with a crystal but you could get between 7222 and 7225 with a trim cap.The frequency would at least be "rock solid" if you'll pardon the pun.

You might get by with a high stearic acid content paraffin wax, but it might just melt and rum all over if left in the car on a summer day. ;>)

I like a fine drizzle of hot-melt glue, followed by judicious use of a hot air resolder nozzle to melt and spread the glue. Look for the glue gun nozzles used to add binding tape to the edge of carpet:

Measuring capacitance and other stuff

Here's a very cool example of something you could do with the Raduino.

? ??

Imagine you are off on an island somewhere, a Bitx was dropped from the sky?but doesn't quite work.

Would be nice to have a DC voltmeter, perhaps using a Raduino ADC.

We might want a diode+cap RF probe in the corner of the board somewhere.

Then we could do things like sweep that IF filter using the Si5351.

What other handy tools does the Raduino make possible?

What's the best way to measure inductance with a minimum of additional parts?

A bit beyond what I'd try with the Raduino, but I really like K5BCQ's AQRP Vector Impedance Analyzer. ?Two Si5351 channels kept exactly 2khz apart are routed to two SA612 mixers?such that the two 2khz outputs can be sensed by two ADC's. ?One 2khz signal measures voltage, the other measures current, and the phase shift between the two is significant. ?Processed by some DSP algorithms on a uC. ?Using the Si5351's square waves, can reject harmonics since those would be?separated by more than 2khz. ?Does a very nice job of measuring an inductor, graphically showing at what frequency the capacitance between windings starts to take over.

Hello from a new Member and relatively new Ham. I'm also kinda new to Yahoo Groups as well. I got into this hobby after I retired from Active Duty. I've built a couple Pixie Kits. I'm really looking forward to finishing this SSB kit.

Hi Group members. My name is Don-KG5IWL. I just recently received my BitX40 in the mail. I got the kit before the Raduino board was added. I was wondering if there were instructions to make it work as is without the Raduino?

I'm not very arduino savvy yet. But I do plan on ?buying another kit or two down the road after I finish moving. Any help and good links would be appreciative. I'm also looking forward to adding an amp and a few more gadgets to it in the future.

Re: Yeah! No!

I received some parts in the mail tonight.? A package of (25) T37-6 toroid cores and 32AWG wire.? I wound up 45 turns on the coil, soldered it in, and it now seems to pass inspection according to the troubleshooting video, at least.? I hear noise now at C2 at at the antenna feed.? I will say that the core for L2 is actually a T30-6, not a T37-6. ?

I'm not hearing anything but digital and CW on 40M tonight, but I'm not hearing any SSB on my main rig on the same antenna either.? I guess 40M is dead tonight?? Seems strange...? Guess I'll test again tomorrow.

Re: A more stable Bitx40 (fun with ceramic resonators)

You'd have to pull it pretty far to get it into the US 40m phone band
12.000 - 4.915 = 7.085 MHz.
