Re: Does zBitx have SWR display?
Thanks, Tristan! That was the issue and now my zBitx seems to work as intended. I wonder if some units got SD cards with earlier system installs on them? 73, Paul, N8HM On Thu, Apr 3, 2025 at 12:40 Tristan VA3VPN <va3vpn@...> wrote:

Re: Waiting for the zBitx to start…
First of all, thank you very much for your support!!!
The zBitx is now running! I did the following:
1. Downloaded the image as Jeff described 2. Bought a new 64 GB microSD card 3. Formatted the SD card to FAT32 using "guiformat" 4. Transferred the image to the new SD card using "Win32DiskImager" 5. Inserted the card into the zBitx and connected the power supply The zBitx starts up as it should.
I had my first CW QSO on 20m with 3 watts over a distance of 1,600 km.
I had set the delay to 700, otherwise it doesn't work properly with the straight key (yet). I hope this helps other users who have the same problem. ?

On the bottom of my sBitx screen in CW mode are pre recorded messages, CQ, call, reply etc. I could never find these messages because I would like to change them. I have found other variables but never did I find these.
?
Can someone point me in the right direction, please.
?
BTW, this rig is like a big toy box providing more fun than expected.

Re: CW on zbitx
Yes, CW feels strange (even after updating: zBitx firmware 1.06, sBitx v3.051). At 18 WPM, iambic A (my usual mode), I sometimes make mistakes I usually do not do, just because the keyer does not pick my keying fast enough. I wonder if the software modifications discussed would improve it. I was going to make this radio one of my main SOTA radios, but not yet. My adventures with my HB zBITX
Today I successfully tested my HB zBITX with the image shared by HF Signals a few days back. It works well. I tested in without the PICO controller and the display and it worked in the sBITX mode. Sharing a small video I captured today on local 20M band de VU2UPX Charudatt |
WSJT-X/Rigctl Configuration Issues - Need Info
1). Wsjt-x only receives data if the Zbitx display is active on? my monitor.?
2). Cannot manually start rigctl if I shutdown the zbitx display. Rigctl returns network connection error.
3). With the? zbitx display window open and wsjt-x running and the mode set to digital, I cannot use the zbitx display to change bands. Band change only works if it is done via wsjt-x
4). When changing bands on wsjtx the zbitx display shows the correct band reflecting the change but wsjtx does not.
5). Receive works fine BUT cannot transmit/tune from wsjtx. I can transmit and tune from the zbitx display window but not from wsjt-x.
?
NEED HELP with number (5) and clarification with what is going on with rigctl.
I'd like to be able to start rigctl from CQRLOG and then run WSJT-X without having the zbitx display active if that is possible?
?
Thanks,
Leo? AI5II |
Re: CW on zbitx
The next update will have to wait until the weekend is out. I am travelling, with the zbitx, but without a paddle. On Fri, Apr 4, 2025, 7:11 PM Vince d'Eon VE6LK/AI7LK via <vincedeon=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: CW on zbitx
Ashar, I tried a longer setting as you suggested, values up from 100 to 300 to 500 to 800 to 1000. It does get better as you increase the delay but is still an issue. So I did a simple test, with the radio idle I simply attempted to key an A, several times. Sometimes it missed the dit, sometimes it missed both the dit and dah and sometimes it registered the character correctly. See video I just posted

Re: CW on zbitx
John's experience matches my own. If I turn down Iambic A or B to 12wpm my error rate drops significantly. I don't straight key much so I won't comment there.
?
I'm really looking forward to the software update for this. Happy to be a tester if Ashar wishes to release it to a small group first. |
Re: CW on zbitx
What is your cw delay set to? Try setting it to 600 On Fri, Apr 4, 2025, 5:29 PM John AE5X via <ae5x=[email protected]> wrote:
