Re: uBITX v6 Alignment Question

Richard,
If I remember correctly, the stock firmware requires you to change frequency before it switches to the new side band selection.?

Re: uBITX v6 Alignment Question

Hi Richard,
?
The change does not take effect unless you adjust the frequency.? Try the experiment with a click-up and click-down in frequency after changing from USB to LSB and vice versa.

uBITX v6 Alignment Question

Now that the audio issue has been fixed, I proceeded with alignment of BFO and Frequency.? For the most part, after viewing multiple videos, I did the alignment mostly by ear.? It sounds good, and frequency appears to be spot on. On air reports are fine, both SSB and CW.

?

However, if I am on the Noon-Time-Net (NTN) 7,284 LSB, I notice if I go to USB there is no change in the audio.? Sounds just as clear as when in LSB.? If I use CW to check into the NTN, dial set at 7,283.30, same thing.? No change in the audio on either USB or LSB setting. ?Is that normal for this radio?? No other radio I own acts like this, thus the question.? Thanks, 73 Richard AG5M

You can read the description if you don't remember the process. I document every modification step by step, so I can always look back at how I did it.
I see that you solved the installation. Always enter the given directory where you want to do the installation.
If you missed following the development, it is worth loading the sBITX-Toolbox v3.01, because there are many new things in it.
In sbitx v4.4, a lower driver level is enough for the same output power. The thing only appeared because I use it with constant voltage and current limit.

Well, maybe I was inside the source directory when I tried it before? In the sBitx ?directory it works perfectly. ? Thanks, Evan!!

Compiling sBitx in 64 bit image

OK, Mr. clueless here.

I tried the .\build sbitx On the new image with 64 bit operating system and it didn’t work. Something about missing make file. I know I could probably figure this out, but somebody probably knows the answer right off the bat.
?
What do we have to do in order I’ll the new 64 bit version on the 64 bit image that was so kindly provide provided???

I must be missing something. ?Now that I have it running, and I have upgraded the hardware on my 2nd sBitx, I want to start tinkering with software things again!!

Evan, or anyone else who may know. Looking at the sBitx v3 schematic, Share github, named sBitx v3 production, I am unable to locate D8 or D9. I lost D9 in the process of replacing yet another pair of 510s. It is in such close proximity that it got heated and fell off the board.?
?It appears that their purpose is gate protection of 510s. Anyway, does anyone know what diode I need to put here?

Michael,
?
The first step is to verify that the Q10 Drain goes to zero when TX goes to 3 volts (or higher).? If that happens, Q10 is OK.? If not, it is bad.
?
Once Q10 works, verify that the Q9 tab (Drain) goes to 12 volts when the TX signal drives the Q10 drain low.? If that does not happen, remove Q9 and check the operation of Q101.? Do this with Q9 removed to prevent damaging both devices again.
?
Q101 drain goes to zero when TX and Q10 are off.? When TX is low, the Q101 gate should go above 5 volts to make Q101 turn on.? When Q10 turns on with the TX signal, Q101 should turn off.? If Q9 is removed, you can verify that the Drain-to-source resistance is very high with an Ohm meter.? Q101 Drain to Source resistance should be close to zero when TX and Q10 are on.
?
An alternative approach is to remove Q101 so there is no short on the 12V line during receive, Verify and replace bad parts, and then install a verified working Q101.? I built a test jig on a small copper-clad board with wires to insert into a component tester.? I hold the device with tweezers to connect each lead to a separate pad.

You are very welcome, Gyula!

Now I just need to learn how to compile the new version. Does anyone know the proper way to do that?

I have just completed all six hardware modifications to V2 unit number 271, longer report to follow, but it looks like I didn’t destroy anything! ?

Gordon,
your basic idea was used for ePTT, with the difference that you can turn it on/off from the program menu and it has a delayed turn-on (sequencer).
Instead of the TX signal, it uses the RPi I/O for control, but the hardware design is YOUR merit!
I use your solution without any problems, thanks for sharing.

Re: sBitx v3 - original application gives high power, wsjtx up to 2W only

Developments are only done in the 64-bit version (the RPi4 can work with both versions), so it is advisable to switch to it.
It is important to save the contents of the /sbitx/data folder from the old uSD to another storage, because it stores the data here for the hardware to function properly.
If you have created a connection, it is stored in the sbitx.db file.
Use a USB stick to save daily variables (sBITX-Toolbox/ EZ data helps).
When using external programs, their settings are mostly in .ini files, which are needed when the Image changes.
It is important to always have a copy of the working OS, because it is easier to return to it in case of an error than to build it from scratch.

Re: The sBitx disk image - too big for certain (theoretically) 32GB SD cards

Wojtek,
The easiest way to make a backup copy of the OS in the RPi4 is to insert a USB stick or USB uSD card (card reader with card) into one of the USB ports and copy the contents of the working OS to it. To do this, go to the raspberry icon and Accessories and then start SD Card Copier.
Select the source Device, then the Target Device and depending on the read/write speed you will get a copy in 30-10 minutes.
Pay attention to which is the source and which is the target! This is a Debian copy operation.
The OS in the uSD card holder can be copied to an external card or USB stick.
(If you will use an external USB stick as the OS, the same copy operation must be performed for the backup.)
Have a USB stick or uSD card of sufficient size and good quality, because then you can make a copy.

Re: The sBitx disk image - too big for certain (theoretically) 32GB SD cards

The ideal solution would be for future images to be built in the same way that most Linux distros are. The image is shipped as a file system that is as small as it can be to hold everything, and on first boot it auto-expands to fill all available space on the storage device. Until we have that, this workaround should be useful to many people.

Thanks Evan,

Is the 64-bit version suitable for RPi4 having only 2GB of RAM? Is it possible to test it without removing the original SD card? For example, by booting it from an USB flash disk, without removing the original SD?
