Re: PSK31 overdriving audio on sBitx v3
On Feb 1, 2025, at 02:17, Ryan Wesolowski via groups.io <cosmo1stgen@...> wrote:Indeed I¡¯ve embarrassed myself several times by overdriving, because fldigi doesn¡¯t remember these attenuation settings by default, and it takes so long to adjust it, having to hit the left-double-arrow button a lot of times to adjust by 1dB increments. The JT-type programs have a vertical slider at the lower-right corner to quickly adjust output level (seems like better usability to me), whereas fldigi puts the squelch control there. (Well, squelch is also important, but it just helps you avoid noise getting decoded as garbage.) But yesterday I finally found this setting: if you save ¡°Transmit level control¡± on a per-mode basis, then it will remember where you set this attenuator control, so when you start the program again it¡¯s where you left it (but you might have -28dB for one mode and -29dB for another). |
Re: zBitX Digital Modes
Mike,
The zBitx will support 3rd party software out of the box, just like the sBitx. Just set the radio to digital mode and run JS8Call software in the background. You will most likely have to use an external HDMI monitor to ensure that the software is displayed properly. 73, Ragav VU3VWR |
Re: zBitx coming?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI got the email from HFS about the Chinese Lunar New Year, so I guess I get a new toy around the end of the month or early next month. Gerry Sherman Sent by the Windows 11 Thunderbird On 2025-02-04 03:59, Ken N2VIP wrote:

Re: zBitx coming?
And? I've confirmed HF Signals has your email address, when you placed your order, did you get a confirmation email immediately after paying?
?
IIRC someone already shared the contents of the email, but apparently it's a concern for some, so here you go:

Apologies to HF Signals if this was supposed to be private,

Re: Tuning knob
I epoxy the larger part of a snap* to the outer portion of the tuning knob. It provides a finger-sized divot that feels like the finger 'crater' in my old Kenwood rigs.

*the outer 'female' part with the wire ring inside. Abrade the bottom with 80 grit sandpaper to give the epoxy some 'tooth' to grab onto.

Moving the Pi
Hi guys!
I'm evaluating a case for my sBitx v3, and I got the (probably bad) idea of using an aluminum enclosure for the motherboard while moving the Raspberry and display outside that box, in a 3D printed enclosure to be fixed to the aluminum box.
Do you think that a 20cm extension of the GPIO port would work or may it be a source of noise and disaster?
Waiting for your thoughts!

Re: zBitx coming?
Kees,
?
Im not sure what 'responsibility' you are impressed by, sending the email to over 200 people or assembling over 200 zBitx radios in just over 6 weeks? LOL, I'm kidding.
?
Seriously, the zBitx is, by design a low component-count device, relies on SMT for much, if not most, of all components, and I imagine HF Signals has a (virtual) army of enthusiastic worker that assemble, test, and calibrate the zBitx. As I recall, the design was mostly 'nailed down' around Dec. 25th, and was sent to production in early January.
?
Without a hint of sarcasm, I think "It takes a village" to do what HF Signals does, and that's precisely why things are done the way they are.

Re: ATU recommendations
I have an ldg1000 pro ii, ?the little atu-10 and now an atu-100 that will be squeezed into the sbitx. ?The ldg and atu-10 work very well no complaints, ?they tune an antenna. ? I haven¡¯t used the atu-100 yet it¡¯s a kit though a friend of mine has one and it works very well. ?

Re: Anyone got a ZBitX or SBitX connected to the Internet?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý
There's a few ways to make this happen.? I use a dynamic DNS service called DuckDNS and there are a few others that have been talked about here before.? I use it to VNC into my radio from anywhere on my phone or tablet or whatever.? Buddy, send me an email
and we'll see if we can come up with a time to try that out.? I'm curious to see if a screen reader would work through VNC.? There won't be any audio as VNC doens't seem to pass audio, but at a minimum, you'd be able to see if the screen reader can detect
the buttons.? I'm guessing that it's not going to work over VNC since I assume it's just passing image content and no real text.? But we can try it.

Yes, you did, but the OP was asking about access over the public internet to someone else's sBitx.
?
To access an sBitx behind a 'shack router' which is itself behind a 'home router' would be an example of 'double NAT' and you'd have to port-forward on both routers to access the radio over the public internet.
?
i suspect most people deploy a simple switch in their shack, rather than *another* router, and in such a case (switch behind router) you would only have to do port forwarding on the 'hone router', since it's the only one in the network.
?
I think having a 'shack router' is a rare arrangement, I'm not sure why one would feel the need for that, but I'm certain some do.
