Re: Is there a print-able user manual that shares the new sBitx V4 features somewhere?

Hi!

FYI - Since I have also been searchig for documentation, I found that there are lots of bits available on this Google Group's webpages. There is a (pretty sparse) Wiki, there are pictures, files and even some introductionary documents.

What I could not find is a nice comprehensive readable document. So there you go! Just make sure to log into the Web interface to see what's there and what could be useful. Its a pity that this is not more visible but I do plan to make some improvements in the Wiki at least!

IF there is, then I will be quiet, but I dont know of one at this time. Re: Using PI-5 with Sbitx-V3

Hi!

Andi.
You are welcome to create and maintain documentation for the project somewhere else besides my Github wikis as we’re always open to volunteers stepping up.
You know, as soon as I have something to contribute, I will! Either by adding to your Github Wiki or by extending/cleaning up the Mailing List's Wiki pages (that i only found after someone mentioned them yesterday)

After figuring out what I messed up while upgrading to the 64bit Software Distribution I can now look into the PI-5 story. Expect more questions from me ;-)

Re: Ubitx V6.

I know it's a low-tech solution, but I solved the problem using an encoder with an active mechanical stop, mechanically it won't be able to move from where you set it and the rotation speed is actually what you set and there can't be any reading deviations; I understand that it's not an elegant solution for computer scientists, but just a low-cost and highly efficient solution for good old-fashioned engineers.

Re: Is there a print-able user manual that shares the new sBitx V4 features somewhere?

Hi David,

I have been working on a manual for the V3 (32Bit) that I'm attaching with this post. Please note that the manual is work in progress. If you or anyone else on this thread would like to contribute in developing the manual, please get in touch with me by mail(vu3vwr at gmail dot com) off this group.

If you are looking for a manual for the 64Bit version (developed by JJ and team) you can check out the Wiki on his github page () for more information.

Thanks and 73,

As far as I know, there is no printable (pdf) v3 manual. Only v1 and v2. Am I wrong?

I have an old radio shack swr meter that has a voltage-derived power meter that is pretty "close" after calibration except apparenlty at 40 meters where it is a bit optimistic.? Using that meter I developed coefficients that appeared workable (though perhaps not absolute maximum) and then checked with a siglent digital scope and 10X probe with on-screen measurement of RMS voltage on a Heathkit ancient 50 ohm cantenna and converted to power.? ?The sBitx internal reading (which I have separately calibrated long ago) is similar

From Ashhar's earlier data, these are no particularly huge improvement or decline from what he is able to get with IRF510's, so his choices make excellent sense from a manufacturers' reliability standpoint.

?
Because this is now so "new" since installing those MOSFETs I did not dare to do any "brick on key-down" tests.? ? The IRF520 is said to have a slightly lower junction-to-tab thermal resistance, and the aluminum nitride is a significant improvement over mica but my physical installation may not be as good as theirs, and CONTACT is the most important item other than the insulator.
?
I'm just pleased as punch to have a working V2 version again -- and several bags of good MOSFETS now available and the itty bitty TVS diodes.? ?I had bought a SECOND unit (secondhand also) and will need to tear into it to change the insulators etc.? ?In all the time I've had this sBitx this is the FIRST TIME I've ever blown a final.? ?I had a uBitx V3 and never blew those either, I think.? ?Going to 100V D-source mosfets may be a real winner and for the older V2 driver, using the TVS diodes also likely a winner.??
?
For these test's I reset the T/R switching delays to intermediate values (not right in front of me) about 2/3 of what Ashhar had.??
The CW? is set to do 20 checks/sec on the key.? ?A straight key was used to key the unit for power testing.? ??

Re: Help with CW filter insertion #ubitx-v6

Here's an update on my attempt to insert a cw audio filter in my V6.
?
As it turns out the configuration described in #99019 did work very well for reception, but when I transmitted I got an annoying thump when the ptt cycled.? I messed around with shielding my filter in an altoids tin and straightened up my messy wiring to no avail.? in the mean time I've been operating with a remote cw filter which did not thump.?? That got me wondering if placing the internal cw filter behind the audio amp like it is when I use the remote filter might solve the problem.?? I ended up bending IM386 pin 5 parallel to the board, attaching a female arduino jumper wire between pin 5 and my cw filter input and using a male jumper with the pin bent in an "L" shape between the now vacant pin 5 socket and the filter output.? Its all wired up with a dpdt switch so I can switch it in and out. The thump has gone away! ? Only down side is that my filter distorts at around 75% volume, which is more than I ever use so not really a problem.
?
Anxiously awaiting the chance to order my zbitx.

The erratic tuning behavior is one of the complaints of the original software provided with the v6. ?There are several choices available in the files section of the group. ?They also fix most of the CW issues as well. ?You can find them in the files section of the group.?

Ubitx version 6 encoder

I picked up a used version 6. Does the encoder turn smoothly or are there mechanical detents? This one may need a new one as it jumps down the band intermittently when tuned up the band. It may move 10 kHz downward erratically or it may work ok. Solder connections look good. Haven’t had much chance to look at it yet. I think I have another encoder to try.

You got it, almost.

I checked the power, that was OK. But I had the ribbon cable inserted the wrong way so cabling it was.

Thanks!
I already commented out this line for testing because it seemed a
likely culprit but it did not help.
Next I'll try Farhan's original Image and I'll report back. If this
also does not work, I've broke something but I don't think so.
Will take a bit though, I'm not at home currently.

Re: Black Screen - it works!

I'm happy to say - it works and it was not the 64bit version causing the issue.

I am less happy and more embarrased to admit - the reason was me inserting the ribbon cable the wrong way on the display's side. I
was so convinced I got it correct that I only checked as a last resort.

Now I'm flashing the 64 bit version and looking forward to it.

When that works, I'm thinking about a PI-5 with the new Display, but that's another thread!

Thanks for the Help!
