The Gerber¡¯s are on GitHub, ?but you would need to get your own boards made and know how to source and solder surface mount.
?
?You would also have to compile and install my 2.0 beta of CEC¡
?
And the software doesn¡¯t yet support the original v6 display so you would need to go the Nextion route.?
So not a real practical upgrade path¡
?
I am undecided whether to take this effort to conclusion and tidy it all up. Quite frankly the latest offering from HF signals is such a better radio, it doesn¡¯t seem like there would be much interest in this effort anymore.?

I didn't install the sBITX part of the sBITX Aaron, if you have installed the "sBitx 64 bit v3.1 - BTS" image (sb64p2) which you NEED as the base install, then the sBitx program is already installed.? You only need to copy over to the new install your personal files and you are set to go.

After that install, you THEN do the upgrades to the "64bit v4.xx".

Is this how you have done it so far?

BTW, always WAIT until the Raspberry Pi -- the PC inside the sBitx -- REBOOTS by itself on the FIRST boot up after a fresh install ... linux is doing some "automagical" things behind the scenes the first time round ... that has tricked me on more than one occasion?

Re: V4 64bit firmware
See here is an example that the most important part of ham radio are the people.
?
I couldn't get Balena Etcher to work but I have always had problems with it. I used the RPI Imager and it booted up to a white screen on the sBITX.? I ran the sudo apt-get update and sudo-apt upgrade in the Terminal
It doesn't have sBITX on the desktop, so I go to the Menu - Ham Radio - sBITX and get the following message: Invalid desktop entry file: '/usr/share/applications/sBitx.desktop'
?
I looks like all of the other programs in the Ham Radio Menu seems to be working. I guess that somewhere along the line I didn't install the sBITX part of the sBITX.?
Well it's booting up, so I will take that as some progress

For me it wasn¡¯t an ejection issue. Etcher would never finish writing and verifying the USB stick. Instead it would end abruptly with an error message. I used your articles and they were excellent. Write the .img.xz File to the SD CardSome people have reported that writing the img.xz file is throwing errors. You can extract or unzip the file and save the?sb64p2.img?file. Then use the sb64p2.img file with your preferred imager tool below. Using Raspberry Pi Imager
Using Balena Etcher:
Tips:?Ensure the SD card has enough capacity for the image. Backup any important data on the SD card before writing the image, as this process will erase all existing data. Make sure to safely eject the SD card after the writing process to prevent data corruption. |

That is the same problem I was having. I went back to GitHub ?and downloaded the file again.? I extracted it to my desktop and then ran etcher to burn the USB stick again. That solved my problem and the process completed normally. Marshall Harrison,? W4MKH On Wed, Oct 16, 2024 at 7:53?PM Aaron K5ATG via <Aaron=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: V4 64bit firmware
Got it install correctly! For those who need to know, this is what success looks like on the Terminal session, the final lines:

Here's what success looks like on the sBitX screen:
The solution is to violate an old rule, "if it doesn't work, don't keep doing it". I did it again anyway and this third time it worked.

Re: V4 64bit firmware
Pete. thanks again. It shows "sbitx v3.027 JJ" so the V4 update didn't happen. Update goes through a long run and ends with
?

I have no idea what broke but it didn't finish correctly.

I have sat on my desire to bump up the CPU in my uBITX V6 for far too long, and would like to know in 2024 are there any CPU upgrade paths available, if so where can I buy the appropriate board(s) and CPU, and where can I pull software from??
?
I have seen AJ6CUs git hub but where can I get the hardware?

Re: V4 64bit firmware
Thank you for the detailed instructions.?
I think that I screwed up my MicroSD card, I will try again later. I still have the SD card that came with the sBITX. Actually I have 2 of them. One is the original and I made a copy and I'm using the copy in the sBITX so that I can keep the original in pristine condition.?

If both the WM8731 and SI5351 are connected correctly the UI will start.? You do not need the RTC or the SWR Sensor (ATTINY85).??
?
See if you can play a youtube video on the Pi and hear soud out of the speaker - that will tell you if the WM8731 is wired correctly.
?
When you say you finished wiring the sBitx what do you mean? What have you actually built???

Some help welcome
I just finished the wiring of a homebrew Sbitxand burned a W9JES 64bit image on a SD card. If I start with. /sbitx, I see I2C problems, but it goes not to the user screen it stuchs
?
i have not yet wired the Attiny85 can that be the cause? I have a 12mhz signal on the Wm8731 CLOCK SO I still have hope it's not a fake. Si5351 are from Mouser so no fake
?
Can somebody say how and in wich order the software needs the hardware to see we're it stucks I have SLC activity on I2Cbb but nothing on I2C.?
Linux is also new so a lot of things to learn

Si5351 frequency controled by GPS
Dear all,
I was thinking about a GPS controlled Si5351 to be used as WSPR for 50 MHz. The link that is very promising about what I want is It works but the maximum frequency is about 40 MHz. ? The Si5351 is certainly not the limiting factor so it should be somewhere in the sketch? I looked through the sketch but could not find what limits the frequency. ?
Does anyone know if the maximum frequency is fixed in the design or somewhere in the sketch?
And if possible: what to change?
(I tried to email w3pm but the amsat email address doesn't work anymore...).
?
Thanks in advance,

Re: V4 64bit firmware
Aaron,
?
you are an old biker, so you should know that there is the 32-bit original, hardware manufacturer's edition, and there is the improved version, which is installed and developed by a development team.
The latter is the 64-bit version, which is currently at v4.01.
?
In order for the files released by the manufacturer and belonging to the hardware to remain when you use it in 32-bit with the original uSD card, you must copy the entire contents of the /home/pi/sbitx/data folder to an external USB stick. That's enough.
If you used the 32-bit OS to establish a QSO and modified the macro files, it is advisable to copy the *.mc files to this USB stick. You can find them in the /home/pi/sbitx/web/ folder. To copy, use the File Manager program installed on the uSD card.
You can find it in the Menu (raspberry) row by a yellow rectangle icon.
You need to use this File Manager often, it's worth learning what to do with it.
When you have this copy, put the original 32-bit uSD card in a protective packaging and place it in the box in which the device was shipped. That way you can find it there if you need it.
?
Next step from 32 to 64 bit:
The latest 64-bit Image, on which sBitx 3.01 and many applications that are necessary for use are installed. The sbitx application needs to be updated only because of the development in sBitx. Don't forget, this OS should still work, it just won't have the latest (currently 4.01) installed. ?
Important: always save all changes to the external USB stick. This USB stick should be the most important thing you use all the time, under any circumstances.
When you use one of the applications, make a backup of the variables (ini, log or in which you changed them) on the USB stick, so that if necessary you can restore the previous ones or have a copy of the changes. This is needed when a new Image appears and the previous variables have to be transferred to the new Image. If you lose your data for any other reason, you don't have to start all over again. (I know what I'm talking about)
?
The Image, which is in use and I have already changed many things, I sometimes copy to a new uSD card with the Menu-> Accessories-> SD Card Copier application.
Pete mentioned using sBitx from an external USB instead of a uSD card. When you think you don't want to use the uSD card because you have to constantly disassemble the device, then it's time to switch to using external USB ().
?
You can install the operating system on an external USB stick, which must be USB 3.0 or higher.
The contents of a well-functioning uSD card can be copied to the USB 3.0 stick using the previously mentioned SD card copier, and then a few steps must be taken so that the RPi can then understand it and start the system from there. You can find more information about this in the JJ wiki. ?
But let's not get confused here, these are two different things, so you can still use the device if there is a well-functioning uSD card in the device.
