Re: sBITX active cooling #3d_printing #sBitx

When I had to cool a RPi, I got these fans:?

They're smaller and easier to fit in a case. But in case those are still too big, you could try these:?

I forget what I got those for, but they do move quite a bit of air.

Thank you for this fan recommendation, did you use this fan? Is it quiet? Did you blow air on the Pi or draw air away from it?

Gyula,
?
What did you make the fan plate out of? It looks like maybe PCB material? What length standoffs did you use to space the fan away from the back of the Raspberry Pi? Thanks for the info.

Re: sBITX active cooling #3d_printing #sBitx

Joel,
the RPi is not cooled by the fan from the side of the IC part in this method, but by blowing air on the back side of the pcb. This is how you achieve cooling and you don't have to deal with cutting out the side panel in the case of sBitx v2, v3, because there is enough space to fit the 10 mm high fan together with the support plate and keeping it away from the RPi. I've had this installed since May 7th (I document everything) ;-) so now during the heat wave the CPU temperature starts at 35 degrees C and longer usage for 1-2 hours in digital mode doesn't even reach 60 degrees C. You will surely find more pictures in the forum search.

No argument there about the IDE. I normally use visual studio. But this sketch is so small, it doesn't really matter. Looks like your build environment is on Linux.? Mine is on Windows.?

Hi Dean,

You can just use the Makefile and the ATTinyCore I mention to compile the "stock" firmware (just swap the .ino to Farhan's). I don't use the Arduino IDE, which I hate tbh.
: )

ATtiny has 512 bytes of non-volatile memory, so this is useful for our project, for example, to hold the radio serial number, so user can swap the SD card while retaining all specific board setup and calibration.

Btw, more info about HERMES here:

I also uploaded a couple of SD card images of our HERMES system for the sBitx:

Cheers,
Rafael

Re: What is bitx23?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

BITX24 Details

Farhan designed/presented a BITX23, 6M SSB in his QSP issue of 2023 and I designed mine in 2024 hence I called it BITX24.

?

This idea of my BITX24 was a result of studying 2 designs on the topic , viz Farhan and by Chrix found on YouTube. Both , built on the principals of BITX principal.

?

During my earlier development on sBITX, I had already made some Break Out Boards (BoB) based on the uBITX TIA block which I plan to use in this project, hence you see some blocks in my schematic. I have had blocks for a Ladder Filter, Rx/Tx TIA, and a DRM (Diode Ring Mixer). These blocks are no specific design but adapted directly from the uBITX design.

?

Signal Source (Si5351) design is external and connected to this board via SMA Connector.

?

Using of Blocks has made this design more compact , in my opinion.

?

This is just the Exciter Board and the front end BPF/LPF can be adapted from either of their designs.

?

I planned to use MAX9814 MIC amp with AGC but then simply copied Farhan's MIC amp as a standby on the PCB.

?

Choice of LADDER filter is yours and I would go with Chrix's idea.

?
