Re: Sbitx rig control from laptop?

p.s.:
Since sbitx is the basic device, its disadvantages must also be addressed.
What I mean: the logging program of sbitx is only capable of minimal data input.
It is not able to receive, for example, complex call signs (you can read details in my other post).
So you can use a version of wsjtx as an external program, but the log file must be handled separately, because sbitx's log cannot do this.
Maybe one day we'll get to the point where you can log what you can't now.
I have to give an example because some people only read this article.
So it doesn't log / signs and prefix/call sign or call signs that use more numbers or more letters than usual.

So when we think we have a portable device, it doesn't work as we expect in all modes.

Re: Sbitx rig control from laptop?

Jack,

the people before me told me the contact details very well.
Before what you think about, you have to think about how the devices work.
You want your laptop screen to be connected to the hdmi output of the sbitx.
This is how you would use sbitx and have a bigger screen (think of it as your laptop screen).

The problem is that both your laptop and the RPi built into the sbitx are separate computers.
You have two computers and each has one or more hdmi or dp video-audio outputs on the device. All of these are outputs.
If the laptop had an hdmi or dp input, you could input a signal from an external device, which you could then see on the laptop screen.
But there are not any. You are not the first one to want this, but the simplest solution is the connection via ethernet.
I say this after a lot of Googling, because there could be another way. for example, when there was no digital image storage yet,
the signal stored on VHS tapes was brought in through an analog-to-digital converter and stored there.

The hdmi-usb video digitizer and video grabber are still available today.
Which works by connecting the video signal to the hdmi connector and connecting it to your computer via usb.
This thing works exactly the opposite of what the connectors of the devices allow.

A video grabber is an analog-to-digital converter. As such, it cannot transfer everything without loss.
Of course, compared to the VHS image, the contour is sharper, the data can be scanned better.

So the solution is:
or a portable hdmi monitor, which Jim recommended in message #108875.
Or the connection via vnc, when the two devices can be next to each other, but they are connected via ethernet.
Install vnc on the laptop, You can access sbitx through this. Both solutions have advantages and disadvantages.

The laptop screen as an option is not a good solution.

Re: Sbitx rig control from laptop?

Thanks, but I was thinking of being out in a park or a campsite without a Wi-Fi network. My laptop connects to my uBitx for rig control with a usb cable. I was wondering whether I could do the same with the sBitx¡

I haven¡¯t updated the software yet, but I wonder if something like rigctld could provide a network based CAT interface, and ALSA could expose an RX/TX network audio stream.?

Re: Sbitx rig control from laptop?

You can remote into sbitx
1. Connect the sbitx to a wifi network.
2. From your laptop, open

Hi Jonas,

I had the same problem after changing the locale.
Everything started to work with locale set on US (United States).
Hope this helps!

Re: Homebrew SBITX is receiving! #sBitx #homebrew

Hi Dirk

Surely they must have sold plenty of kits,?so there must be some out?there. Mine was already populated with the Tx filters, relays etc. I had to build the Rx side, synthesizer and frequency?display. I have no knowledge of the 40m only kit. Did it have a huff and puff VFO with digital divider?chain?which stabilised?it? If so I can copy my manual and send you the pdfs. I guess it didn't get too popular, because there is no SSB filter and it transmits double sideband suppressed?carrier, and relies on the receiving station's filter to make it SSB.

Re: Sbitx rig control from laptop?

how about a portable 1080p monitor? like:

Sbitx rig control from laptop?

I know this question has probably already been answered but I can¡¯t find the right thread. I want to use my laptop and rig control to my sbitx so that I can use WSJT-X portably. The 7 inch display isn¡¯t big enough. At home I use a large secondary monitor connected to a HDMI connector on the RPi but that¡¯s not very practical in the field. Is there a straightforward way to connect a laptop to the sbitx to run WSJT-X on Windows 10? At home on the patio I connect my laptop to my FT-857D using a SignaLink but I imagine there must be a simpler way with the sbitx.
suggestions?
thanks,

Re: #sBitx help bad transmit #sBitx

According to sbitx screen v3.02.

Is this what you were asking?

My attention has primarily been on improving the software recently. Frankly, the deeper I delve into the coding, the less appealing I find its haphazard structure. Should the hardware reflect the software's quality, it wouldn't be surprising.

sBitx no receive unless I restart the application

After a PA failure and a possible mishap when probing voltages as I was replacing the finals, My Bitx V2 will no longer receive from cold. That is to say, when I turn it on and start the application, I get noise but that is all. The strange thing is that if I stop the application and then start it again (NOT restarting the Raspberry Pi) the system receives ok I really cant work out what is going on.

Another fault is that having replaced the finals, the power is very low, about 25 Watts on CW at full drive.?

Any help gratefully received

I think you guys might¡¯ve missed this paragraph from his documentation

¡°External wattmeter also shows constant transmit in ssb with no modulation.? In cw mode, using a keyboard, power does not pulse as it should. It did initially in a qso, but failed after a few minutes, staying constantly on with power out¡°

?I apologize.. Had a work issue to be addressed at the same time of my last post.. The issue is that the power out indicator is not reflecting the drive control setting.. It could be a software issue so my steps above could confirm that. For hardware, the GPIO to amp stage might need to be verified.. I don't have that data in front of me at the moment. Will have to look into it.

Other possibility is the hw settings are out of alignment.

SBitx v3 No TX

Hi All,

I have discovered a strange issues with my V3.

RX works fine, but there is no output when trying?to send. Regardless of mode. Tried SSB,? CW, TwoTone.

Updated from Github to latest SW.?

I did see some post from other user that found that changing the Locale of the RPi OS could have this effect.? I might have done the same as I normally do this adjustment first thing when setting up a RPi.??
If this is the cause:? What Locale should be set? (and perhaps more importantly, why is TX output dependent on a certain Locale?)

Best Regards
