Re: sBITX V2 TX no output
开云体育OK, I think that might be the original V2 softwareOK, I think that might be the original V2 software Can you check each mode, single side band, two-tone, and CW (press the key down, ) and check that you have output, ?& what it looks like on the screen? If at least you can get that software working you have a working radio. Gordon Kx4z? On Nov 21, 2023, at 11:17, Hajo <hajodo140@...> wrote:

People have different needs, so the faster CPU and GPU would be helpful to some, especially for DSP and media intensive tasks, eg, for vocoders based on ML. Also, the I/O is very improved, while PCIe on it is very good for NVMe usage. I like to play smoke on the water! : ) Anyway, do you know the limits of the regulator that feeds the Pi? I can just set the cpu governor to keep the clocks low anyway. - Rafael On 11/21/23 14:51, Ashhar Farhan wrote:

I’ll agree with Discord being a good path / option. It is very hard to find things in an email repository with so many emails in it.? As a new user (soon to be) of the SbitX, trying to get a handle on what is happening is very difficult. ?Separating out by channel would allow new owners to focus on specific topics such as software updates, using the UI, hardware changes, etc.? Just my opinion. ?Oh, Discord has been very useful in the 3D printing world. ? 73, Roy Sent from for iOS On Tue, Nov 21, 2023 at 01:43, deansmithok via groups.io <deansmithok@...> wrote:

Re: v3 software, alpha is here
The way cw decode works is like this: 1. Switch to a span of 6k or less. 2. Set the bandwidth to 400 hz or less 3. Tune the signal to be right on top of the pitch line in the middle of the passband. 4. Nudge the wpm control to approximately the speed of the signal. You can be off by a wide margin. But you have to nudge it for it to decode, I am not sure why. - f On Tue, Nov 21, 2023, 8:38 PM Harald Holt <haraldholt@...> wrote:

Re: 12 volt power supply
I have used a TDK-Lambda LS75-12 for several years without problems.? It is switch mode but meets EMC standards to Class B, the tougher limits for residential use.? I have not noticed any RF interference from 80 metres to 70MHz (UK 4 metre band).
It is available from Digikey.? I mostly draw a max of 4 amps on trnamit, and on receive the power supply is very much underrun, which should keep it cool and reliable. Best 73 Tony, G4CIZ |
Re: v3 software, manually entering LOG does not work
When you call cq, with auto on, it picks the first responder and completes the qso. With auto off, you have to chose who to respond to. On Tue, Nov 21, 2023, 8:09 PM HA3HZ <gyula@...> wrote: Ashar, |

The Pi5 doesn't idle at 5A. It putters along at 1A unless you kick it hard and more cores wake up and start playing smoke on the waters. There will be little gain, really. The sbitx works just?fine even on the rpi zero 2w.? My Pi 5 did not arrive yet. When it arrives I give an update, but I don't see why it would not work. Are you sure the regulator will not be enough? Can you help me find it in the circuit?

Re: v3 software, manually entering LOG does not work
Ashar,
before entering a cave, please tell me what the AUTO: on - off option means. What do you automate? Because there is no visible change. I know, the programmer has enough problems. The user wants to know which button performs which action. So we just guess how it works, even if we have some knowledge of another program. But as you wrote earlier: this device is a different beast. -- Gyula HA3HZ |
Re: Brainstorming: sbitx with new Raspberry Pi 5?
#sBitx
I have learned more since writing this, and based on a question on the FB sbitx group I will add some updated thoughts about the issues of using Pi 5 in sbitx.?
I would say there are three areas of concern: power, heat and software.?? ?
Power: Pi 4's standard PSU is a 15 watt device, Pi 5 wants 25 watts.? The sbitx internal regulator that converts 12V to 5V won't cope, from what I have been told.? The power is delivered from the radio to the Pi on its GPIO pins, and I worry that upping it from 3A to 5A will go beyond the pin's limits.? Then there are also likely knock-on effects due to drawing more energy from the battery.
?
Heat: All that power gets converted to heat one way or another.? The Pi provides CPU and GPU temperature readings, those will need to be monitored and if they get hot, something must be done to cool them.? I think there is room for the Pi 5 Active Cooler if a GPIO extender is used to create a bit more room for air flow, but then the holes in the panel will no longer line up.?
?
Software:? The Pi 5 needs Bookworm / Debian 12, the image being produced is Buster / Debian 10 which is quite old.? ?The image being produced uses 32-bit mode whereas the default Pi 5 image is 64 bits.? I found enough help on this group to get to Debian 11 / Bullseye in 64 bit mode.? I haven't ventured further than that so far.
?
Even though I got a Pi 5, I am finding a lot more things to work on with the current hardware/software so I've kind of put Pi 5 for sbitx on hold for now.?
?

Re: Discord
I don't think moving the conversation to Discord is a good idea because the group on groups.io is searchable via public search engines which is beneficial to all. Discord is a closed system and I'd hate to see fragmented information in multiple places.

Re: sBITX and Ham Bands
Hello Pierre,
The sbitx program first tries to read hw_settings.ini.? That is the file used by the program.? If hw_settings.ini is not found, it goes to hw_settins_default.ini and prints a message to the starting process.? It is up to the user to either rename or better to copy the correct file to hw_settings.ini. With a DE version and not adding the SWR/Power sensor, I copied my calibrated hw_settings.ini from my V2 folder. Here is the code in the sbitx.c file: static void read_hw_ini(){
hw_init_index = 0;
char directory[PATH_MAX];
char *path = getenv("HOME");
strcpy(directory, path);
strcat(directory, "/sbitx/data/hw_settings.ini");
? if (ini_parse(directory, hw_settings_handler, NULL)<0){
? ? printf("Unable to load ~/sbitx/data/hw_settings.ini\nLoading default_hw_settings.ini instead\n");
strcpy(directory, path);
strcat(directory, "/sbitx/data/default_hw_settings.ini");
? ini_parse(directory, hw_settings_handler, NULL);
? }

Re: v3 software, manually entering LOG does not work
Barry, If you turn on the AUTO it latches onto the first response to your CQ. Often, someone tailgates the first call and the second call continues automatically. I have watched it sometimes run for 15-20 minutes, "running" calls one after the other without my intervention (ugh!). I am hoping nobody rights a javascript to pick and qso the entire dxcc list automatically. At that time, I will fire up my BC348 and 6L6 and retire to a cave. - f On Tue, Nov 21, 2023, 6:53 PM Barry Cromwell via <blcromwell=[email protected]> wrote: I made 20 contacts yesterday and it auto logged all of them.?
