Re: sBitx V2 SSB Issues

More info:

I am using the hand mic from my Elecraft KX3. It has a 4 conductor TRRS plug with connections S shield, R2 logic ground, R1 PTT, T audio. ?Could that be the source of the noise?

Re: sBitx V2 SSB Issues

Here is oscilloscope troubleshooting on the SSB distortion. We looked at the signal going into the WM8731 RLINEIN (at the cathode of D2). The signal was fairly noisy without even pushing the PTT. With the PTT active and the radio generating RF, the noise on the signal increased dramatically. ?One hypothesis is that the trace from the mic jack to the MIC pin on J1 (on the main board) goes right past the RF section of the radio. Could that be inducing RF into the signal?

Another note, when we touched (I swear we didn't push hard) the probe to D2, D2 fell off. As near as we could tell, it looks like one side may not have been soldered at all. It's a very small part, I will attempt to re-solder it, unless do you have a spare DE digital board?

What's the purpose of D2 and would D2 being missing allow for RF to get into the signal?

Re: Clock battery pics and mod

I ordered this one. We will see if there is enough room between the boards.

Re: Clock battery pics and mod

I'm reusing an old Pi 4 that has seen many uses. It has what I think are the standard chip size stick on heat sinks and they seems to fit fine.?
If you are concerned there are many handy apps for monitoring CPU temperature, both displaying on the Pi and some that use your smart phone as a remote display..

Re: Clock battery pics and mod

Me too Gyula :) I haven't opened unit yet, no RTC battery installed, no check for residual screws or so, no SD card image backup... yet.
Just enjoying the RX and worked 30QSOs over continents.?
Now QRX so maybe time to do those things. hi

Re: Clock battery pics and mod

We went to great lengths to avoid fans or relays to keep the entire radio silent. They are thriving in Hyderabad where the temperatures routinely cross 100F.
If anything, we need better circulation inside the box.

I haven't opened mine yet :-P but I'm still thinking about some kind of air circulation. e.g. 12V fan operated from 5V, with a separate regulator.

Re: Clock battery pics and mod

Gyula,

I am exactly at the same point.
In my opinion it will not fits and even if yes then it will be too tight with no air ventilation so maybe the conditions will
be even worse. (of course, heatsink without small additional fan)
So, I'm thinking about some solution. I know that Farhan said it's not necessary, but I am thinking about some upgrade for
better cooling.

Re: Clock battery pics and mod

Petr,
have you seen how it fits? I've seen a similar size one without a fan, but I'm not sure if it's worth putting it between the two PCBs.
I'm thinking more of a side fan that sucks the air out. I'm just planning what would be a better solution.

Re: Why do I2C bit-banging instead of using the Pi4 I2C controller?

Rafael,
We couldnt get the wm8731 and the si5351 to share the I2C bus, hence.

Hi all,

I wonder why we are not using units of the 6 I2C controllers of the Pi4, instead of big-banging. Ashhar, do we have any reason for this?

Cheers,

Re: Sbitx Advisory: Do not transmit !

Oops,

I made about 30 QSOs on CW with full power (40W out measured on 20m with drive set to 100).
It looks like it survived luckily.

OK, QRX for next commands from mothership.
?
Many thanks Farhan,

Re: Clock battery pics and mod

Thank you very much Joel.

Looks ok as it is not covered completely.
I thought about this ultra-low 7mm heatsink

...but I heard that it is shielding the board and the Wifi coverage is affected when it is installed.

Sbitx Advisory: Do not transmit !

We got to the bottom of the PAs blowing. The PA being overdriven to almost 80 watts on the lower bands. This is due to a badly configured hw_settings.ini. We are updating this.
Until then, do not transmit at a drive setting of more than 30.
Just hang on until we push a new update.

Re: I need a proper sBitx V2 image!

Success. I replaced the finals, re-calibrated the PA_Bias voltage and everything seems to work. The image I¡¯m using was downloaded and upgraded with a git pull. I¡¯m ?not sure what I did to get this SD card working but I backed it up right away! The web UI looks great.

I still sometimes get no audio on startup but sometimes a reboot gets the system running properly. I¡¯ve read that others sometimes have the same problem. Anyway, this SD card was created from scratch because the supplied SD card doesn¡¯t boot (ends with ¡°kernel panic).

I¡¯ll leave it on overnight (receive) and see what happens.

Re: Check for loose screws and nuts #sBitx

Hello Zach,

A lot of care is taken while packing and it has to pass through 3 hands before being dispatched. We suspect that this would have happened during customs inspection at the port of entry. Anyway sorry for this and the packaging team has been alerted towards this issue and it will be taken care of in future orders.

Regards,

Thomas

Re: Error Building V2

See in install.txt ## step 11: create a fresh logbook database in the data subdirectory in install.txt
you may have to install sqlite3 first

There are differences between v1 and v2 install.
