Re: uBITX V6 weird modulation

I would be interested in the value you saved when you finished the second BFO tuning step.? It might be an indication of any issues that may be in the other parts of the radio.

Note: In the stock software, you need to write calibrations and tuning values down as every time you go to tune or calibrate it starts from the same default value.? Reed N's software does not have this issue, as well as correcting what many see as the correct CW operation where the frequency displayed is the actual frequency transmitted.? In the Stock software, the CW signal is offset by the sidetone value.

Thanks Evan,
I have followed that procedure and I believe it was successful.? But maybe I will do it again.?
I tested using Morse as well so a mike issue did not confuse the testing.

Thanks for the prompt reply.?

Owen,
I would perform the BFO tuning step (the last one) in Ashhar Farhan's video on BFO tuning.? That is assuming that the CW frequency is correct.? If the frequency is off, then do all 3 steps.

For a v6 the BFO should be somewhere close to 11.056000 MHz (11.059 MHz crystals - 3,000 Hz highest audio frequency expected).? Most will be lower than that for the best audio and carrier suppression.

Note: The first BFO tuning step is to put the response at the lower edge of the audio passband to allow for the best zero beat response to the AM signal.? After the Frequency is set, the BFO then needs to be tuned for the best audio response and carrier suppression.?

Re: uBITX V6 weird modulation

I'm using a dummy load on my Ubitx V6.1 and an Sdr as a test. The mike socket seems to be a bit sensitive to mike cable movement when I key and move the mike. I also seem to be getting very low output but my Sdr may not be set up?correctly. So I will check and also fit the suggested capacitors and ferrites. Would ferrites used for antenna balans be suitable. Im a complete newbie.

That's lower sideband. As you can see it's mostly above where it should be.

USB looks just the opposite. CW shows up on the correct side though.
Also, and another biggie here, this is what it looks like when you key the mic, talking into it changes nothing.
Signal above received with an rtl-sdr, no antenna for attenuation (since the transmitting antenna is just out the window).

Re: uBITX V6 weird modulation

This is what it looks like when I stretch in and out the coiled mic cord.
Vertical lines are when it's stretched.
I don't have to speak in order for it to do this, nor do I see any difference when I speak. So while I can see where this might be a RF on the mic cable issue, wouldn't It still show something when I talk into it?

I could copy rick KN4AIE 47 and nearly read Tom VE3THR 25 lots of interference, it was worth trying?

that's more like it..add WA1MAD Mike and KM4UDX Don to the list. Nothing heard from the central plains.?
Suggestion came up to use NET LOGGER to co-ordinate in real time. With all the experimenting and new blood I think this could be a great net again. We just need a good frequency and some respect for qrp stations. Lets do this again soon! Long live the BITX40 and uBITX rigs !!!

Re: Wed 7/29 BITX QSO night 7pm Central (US) on 7.277, or psk31 on 7071.5

Tnx fer the Qso! Even tho I was only getting to you 30% you were solid copy here on PSK.

heard my old friend Rick KN4AIE..quick chat 3x3 @ 0016 hrd app... Heard WB8BEL calling cq but nogo. QRM below and above 7.277- made it rough to copy. Trying to work WA1MAD now.

Too much interference?from the NOLA folks on 7.275 at my QTH.

I too have called CQ a number of times, no response.

Oh Well, maybe need to try later.? 40 meters seems better at night.

I agree.?? I picked 7pm CDT because it worked for me.? Apparently the ionosphere doesn't care about my schedule.

I have been on since 6:10 and have heard nothing.? Do not have PSK31 setup, so did not try that.

I would agree.? Also, verify if you have that pattern when connected to a dummy load.? The uBITX seems to be susceptible to RF feedback.? .01 uF caps to bypass and Ferrites on the cord.

Re: uBITX V6 weird modulation

So i was fiddling with the calibration, and using the sdr to see my changes, when I noticed how I held my mic cord changed what was on the screen, sometimes nothing, sometimes strong, sometimes strong without saying anything, sometimes even the tx would kick on and off...
So I'm thinking my issue is the mic cord itself.
