Found that one of IRF530¡¯s was completely shorted. I put an order in for 10. Curt, did you see this pdf where the guy put a resistor on R6. I tried translating some of the text. Theres some english in the beginning, then the rest if German.

Welp., I managed to fry mine. No power, seems like a DC short on the power wire. I was trying different coax cables making sure I had the best cable, then auto tuning ?and it just died. Fan stopped moving. Is it the mosfets?

Thanks Curt. I was just reading some other posts where someone mentioned that the harmonica on the other frequencies will be seen as a high swr on the meter. Sounds good to me, I¡¯ll wait for the filters. The transformers were put together nicely. Wires not shorted to tube or anything. I made a PTT from the uBitx buy using a octocoupler and wired it to the T/R on the raduino. ?

Hi Joe, I would wait until you get the filters and then see what your SWR is. ?It's been a while since I've had mine on the Bird 43 looking at forward and reflected power. ?It was OK from what I remember. ?Be sure that you solder those tubes for the transformers into the supports and thatcher's the tubes are not loose. ?That make help you also if you did not already do that.

I tested the filter set on the analyzer and it looked pretty good in it's respective bands. ?I've see better and I've definitely seen worse but they are more than usable. ?I use them with the Bitx40 and uBitx without the amp.

Re: Antuino power issue

Looking at my board it looks like an incorrect footprint was used for the barrel connector so some holes were drilled out to make it fit. The concequence was that one of the holes all all the through hole copper removed. Thusly there is no electrical connection from the bottom to the top of the board. Putting solder on the top of the pad to the barrel connector fixes this.

Re: uBITX Firmware CEC Version Added WSPR function, I am looking for a beta tester. #ubitx

Sascha?

I forgot because the Most of the value of WSPR Calibration is the same as the value of Master Calibration.
When I update the next version, I do not forget to fix it.

I am using version 1.11 of the uBITX-Manager (and I have not seen a newer version yet) and can still confirm the behaviour.
The once entered WSPR calibration value can never be read out again - there is always the master calibration value in the corresponding field.

I just played around with the WSPR Calibration to improve my setup - the built-in WSPR funxction really is a great feature.

I took a few more measurements, adding in 3dB and 6dB steps at higher attenuation values.? It looks like the additional 3dB and 6dB steps are attenuating RF appropriately.? But the shape of the graph remains non-linear.? ?See attached.? ?

I am not sure what to try at this point; any suggestions?

This is interesting. There could be two possible explanations:
1. There is gain compression. This is possible due to the two stage IF amplifiers.
2. The step attenuator is off-calibration.

One way to know is to measure readings of smaller attenuations at different attenuations. For instance how does the readings change between -50db and -53db as opposed to -10 and -13 db? My tests show quite linear relationship between actual attenation and db readings.

What I don't understand is the non-linear relationship at low levels of attenuation.? For instance, adding 3dB, 6dB, or even 12 dB of attenuation did not significantly change the Antduino's displayed power measurement.? Independently, I crudely measured the RF power using my oscilloscope, and the power output changes as expected.? ?I am curious what results others get with their units.? ? Why am I getting a non-linear relationship between attenuation and RF power?

Rob i had issue with fonts also.?? I still can't find the correct glcd LIB either, did you?.

Keep in mind I am a novice at this but do have Jacks book.

What i think it should be is to have all the Fonts in a directory called "fonts". Fonts.h is just a list of the fonts used in the Sketch.
in the same directory as the sketch.

then change #include <fonts/allFonts.h> to "fonts/allFonts.h"?? so when you run the sketch in the IDE, it gets the fonts from the sub directory /fonts

I have another problem though in that i can't find a zipped version of the fonts required to download.?

I found the fonts here
But if I right click on each entry? "Save As" the downloaded files have extra characters in them making them unusable.

Antuino power issue

Bruce,

I was going to wait until tomorrow but quickly checked the solder joint at the power socket.... and like yours even a good looking solder joint was faulty.? ?Especially on the top of the board it looked good but putting a small screw driver at the joint on the bottom of the board and suddenly the unit came alive with the battery pack.

Thanks for your comments and assistance.

Sorry I should have looked more closely at the schematic before posting. Also I opened the case tonight and the answer was painfully obvious.
Thanks

Antuino battery voltage

Bruce,

I was in error.? Rechecked the battery voltage tonight and it is 9.45 v with the new batteries.? I thought it had only 4 AA batteries in the internal battery holder but on second look there are 6 AA batteries.??

Still won't work from the battery pack.? Does work using the external power jack and 9 v battery.??

Will have to take more time and look into it.

Re: Antuino

I see that the schematic has been updated from the one that I had.? The trick that is being used is that the positive is on the barrel, and the negative on the pin.? Most (except for HP) barrel power supply? connectors have negative on the barrel and positive on the pin.? Either can work, just need to wire in the battery differently.? Since the barrel is being disconnected from pin 3, if the barrel is negative, the negative of the battery needs to go to pin 3.

Sorry if I created and confusion.

Re: separate CAT jack, without using the USB cable #ubitx #cat #raduino #arduino

So I finally did some testing and it really seems as everything works as it should.

Thanks everybody for your help with the project, I could not have done it without you.

Especially you John - your help and insight was awesome and I am deeply in your debt.

Thanks also Jack (had wanted to thank you before, but forgot) for your explanations of C.

I'll guess I am getting a book now to dig myself a little bit deeper in programming.

Re: Antuino

Just to chime in mine exhibits similar actions. Everything under about 10db just shows up as about -15 or -24 depending on if your using the harmonic.

Re: Antuino - the antenna analyzer

I slapped one together on the bench and used 69mhz filters salvaged out of a really dead?
TS830 instead of the crystals for the filters.? Tweaked the code and works well.

Could you explain a little how to modify the code for other IF is just one or two lines of code or mayor surgery.

Thanks in advance?

Incidentally, do you use stock firmwsre or kd8cec phd lee firmware?

If LEE's firmware, i fear that the result is not gettong save or? factory default mY not be possible. One of these things is happening.,Imho

Ubitx V3 Rx problems #ubitx #ubitx-help

My uBitx v3 has been working fine and I added a usb audio card and 2 port hub with a separate PSU, this has also been working very well.

I was experimenting with FLDIGI and attempted to change the frequency by clicking in the 'present freq' window and typing in a value. This immediately resulted in strange behaviour from the Ubitx, clicks, pops, jumping frequency.

Now I have very low audio and 'whistles' as I tune through bands. I have changed the audio amp and its the same, supplies are ok, the Tx appears ok (CW, FT8, SSB audio). The Rx has lost volume and sensitivity and there is more noise but less signal - although FT8 still 'works' it is clearly much worse. The basic Rx does not get any better if I fully disconnect the USB sound card.

I am on the original software as supplied.

Doesd anyone have any idea why the Rx should have got much worse?
Blown relay drives?
Arduino/Osc problem?

Thanks for any help given
Bob

Re: BFO Question...

As far S v5 is concerned, the IF is 11.0592 MHz.?
Hence during te alignment,it is suggested to pre park the BFO? at 11.055.5 powersave. Later manage to tune wwwf like known standard frequency and get the best possible reception by adjusting calibrtion control. Power save this too.?
At this stage the rog should work welall the best.
