The idea here, is to get the kids to build their own transceiver using though hole components.

I am looking to do similar to some ammo cans and the Apache cases. I've been having a rough time getting something sturdier than cookie tins. Apparently I'm a little too rough for them.

I have done? a bit more testing now using an RD16HHF1 pair in the final although expediency meant i used the final section of the G6ALU 20W pa design.
I also found oscillation problem (about 110MHz). It seemed to be coming from the 1st and maybe the 2nd stages of the MPSH10 stages.? I removed the 330pF from the 1st stage and it's now pretty tame.? BUT, the response is nothing like as flat as I had hoped it would be. I have no feedback on the RD16HHF1 stages as yet.? I don't run the drive control flat output though as looking at the output on a scope, it's severely flat topping with this level. Around 16-17W is about max. level.
?But I did plot the response of an original complete G6ALU amp and it falls away badly at the 80M end of the HF bands. In the PicaStar where this pa is used, it's no problem as Star has software drive control on each band since its DSP based.
Not much time to investigate further at this stage.

Well, i have dont my mods and powered up. Results are mixed:
Here are the mods.
RD16 replace IRF510.
New output transformer 1:4 BN43-3321 with a 330pf cap on input.
feed back resistors. from 22ohm to 1 K ohm
piggy backed R87 and R88 with 220pf capacitor.
RV1 full drive.
So results.
80M - 20W + ( blew my 2 Amp fuse)
40M - 18W - Seems stable.
30M - 17W BUT I get BAD feedback/ oscillation by just going PPT with no voice. The watt meter goes up to 18W!
20M - 15W? -? Same feedback issue
15M -? Same feedback issue.
10M -? Same feedback issue.
I have been thinking ans looking at other RD16 schematics, in alot of cases they dont use the feedback on the finals?
Also could this issue be cuase in the driver stage?

Just got the BitX-40 working on FT-8 2 days ago! So far, I've worked 12 states (AL, AZ, GA, IL, MI, MS, NC, NJ, OH, VA, WA, WV)?and Ontario. Not bad for only 5 watts!
I've seen W1LY on FT-8, but have yet to work him. Anyone else on here using FT-8 on the BitX? Look for me or let me know you're on and I'll look for you.
In a couple of days, I'll publish the VOX operated interface I'm using between the PC and the rig.

BitX40 case from The Home Depot...
I picked up this Husky clear acrylic "waterproof" case from THD back when I first got my '40.? $12.? I kind of like the see-through look.? I think with some rearranging I could get a small LiPo battery in there....The Sharpie pen case made a dandy mic body.? Could probably squeeze a bit of wire in there for a dipole or End Fed, then I'd truly have a shack in a box.? The little speaker in there is practically useless.? Probably leave it as-is, and move on the the uBitx.? Aloha, Steve.??
ps- made a contact on a (questionably-accurate) indicated 3.5W to Alaska.? Stoked!

Between 15 and 40 years ago, I'd spend a year or more at a time on the road when fed up with cubicle life.
All my gear in one well stuffed daypack, but still enough to sleep rough when needed.
Being geekish, found room for a miniature SW receiver and DVM, and some basic tools.
Tools included some screwdriver bits, a soldering pencil tip, hanks of wire and solder, the tiniest visegrips offered.
Occasionally found reason to do some soldering, using a butane cigarette lighter to heat the tip.
In mainland China in 1990, soldered up my broken wire rimmed glasses, using copper wire to reinforce the break.
That one was with direct application of the flame, the tip didn't give enough heat.

With so many people working on modes for the xBitx. Has anyone created a chart or schematic notes with expected voltage/resistance or waveforms expected at some points along paths in working radios?? This sort of information could help a lot when questioning yourself if levels look different then one expected.

I think I’m getting dumber the older I get but I can’t figure out how to search for specific messages in our Group List. Putting the pound sign in front doesn’t seem to work, and just putting the message number in doesn’t help. Any Search gurus out there?

Version 0.27 is a slightly older version, but it is okay.?
I will release new firmware in a few days. Upgrade uBITX Manager with uBITX firmware at that time.
The new firmware adds WSPR functionality and has several bug fixes and improvements.?

I am having difficulties trying to get uBITX Mgr v0.2 to read from UBITX.? I've tried the resisitor solution and the capacitor solution with no data showing in Manager.? The display does show db:40000000 and second line the standard LSB and Frequency.
any suggestions (from anyone would be appreciated)
