Re: sBITX Homebrew Misadventures by K5ATG #homebrew #sBitx

HC49U crystals look like this. The S version is a short version. As Ashhar mentioned, grounding the case may have little effect on bandwidth. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just make sure you get fundamental and not third overtone crystals.

Maybe not an answer, but FT8 on 7074 use USB, not LSB. Maybe is that a reason. WSJT-X set rig to USB.

Aaron,
The crystals have four pins of which two can be grounded, you can leave them out as well. I havent noticed much difference either way.

Aaron,

Type HC49/U/S cases can grounded by soldering a wire to the top of the HC49 case to ground. If they're smd crystals, they usually have a couple of ground pads.

1) All of the crystals that I have seen have two leads on them. In the schematic above they have 4 legs. Am I seeing this correctly?
2)What type of jack is J7?

I forgot to mention that you don't have to ground each HC49 crystal. You can run a single wire between all them to ground.

Glad to help. Thanks for the heads-up on DirtyPCBs - they had a different error message than OSHPark or JLC.? I can def add 'Gerbers' and 'designing feedback amplifiers' to the long list of things I don't understand!

Re: Saved by the hidden fuse in ubitx V6 ;-)

One more casualty...? Just found out that the Nano A3 pin (ptt) is not 12v tolerant. :-)

When I offset the? Raduino, the 12v was connected to the PTT pin.? Replaced the Arduino, I now can transmit again via ptt.? All in all, pretty cheap lesson to be a little more careful...

Re Run Of uBitx Enclosure

Hi Friends .
Lately I am getting inquiries for our ubitx nextion enclosures. So it's been decided to re launch them back .?
So we will have the 2.8, 5 inch and the new 7 inch nextion display case with our old popular agc circuit . We may substitute the analogue meter with the oled display meter. But the the space available could also be used for analogue meter .
We are also thinking of adding fitting for? the WA2EBY amp? and 100 watt Automatic Antenna Tuner to the enclosure.
The enclosure would be interesting with the ubitx and what ever firmware is used .?
I would be glad to hear any feedback or suggestions on the enclosure design .
It gives me immense pleasure to provide our products at inkits which we have been doing over a decade .
In this coming new year we shall be coming out with some new products .
Thanks and best wishes?

4. Is the distortion worse on any one sideband?

Mic preamp board SSM2167works nicely.

This preamp makes a HUGE difference. Here is my version of the SSM2167 mic preamp/compressor for the uBitx v6. I used it with the supplied Baofeng microphone and it worked well checking into the WPSS evening net on 3952 KHz. After adjusting the gain, gate and compression (not too much!) I got good audio reports, and much better that with the microphone alone. I followed the project according to KI7OJL's implementation (??but printed my own box, and used a small L78L05 I had lying around in a TO92 case. No need for a big TO220 unit.?

Saved by the hidden fuse in ubitx V6 ;-)

I have a bunch of Raduinos with both V5 and V6 headers (2 extra pins) that I was swapping around to check that the KD8CEC LCD functionality still worked with a Pico and Teensy processors.

Well, I plugged a V5 into a V6 *aligning it with the extra pins* (so everything was offset by 2 pins). Magic smoke! (Daughter thought that we had a gas leak lol).

After disassembly, discovered that the copper trace to12v in to on/off switch was literally toast and had actually burned out like a fuse at one point. :-) Jumpered a wire over the virtual fuse and everything "so far" seems fine. Will check again tomorrow, but receive appears to work and I was copying some cw. :-)? Hopefully I got lucky...

Re: AGC

FYI... If one opens the Gerbers for these AGC boards and renames the file "ND6T-Edge_Cuts.gbr" to have a ".gko" extension, OSHPark, JLCPCB, and Dirtypcbs are happy with the Gerbers.
