Re: trying to setup BITx40 board .. where to connect speaker and microphone jack

you are using earbuds from a cellphone? It has 4 connections on the plug- tip - ring - ring - sleeve. The jack supplied in the kit is 3 conductor - tip - ring - sleeve. It is closed circuit type. You are probably shorting out the audio when plugging in - get proper 4 cond jack. Or you use an old speaker maybe from a radio or computer 8 ohm type 1/4 to 1 watt type. DON't connect the black wire from the board to negative or ground. If mounting the jack on a metal panel then you must get an isolated ground type jack. You still have to key the radio PTT somehow, can't do that with earbuds. I use a 3 conductor jack for microphone and PTT on one cable. Separate speaker jack.? ALSO connect a dummy load to the antenna B4 playing with PTT and MIC connections just to be safe. You probably don't have a 2.5Amp fuse inline with the power yet either??
Hope that helps. Remember there is no dumb questions, just answers!

I'm in VA and monitoring 7277khz. Located at FM16 grid. Will be monitoring for a another hour if? anyone wants to test

Heard absolutely nothing from 7PM local onward on or about 7.277. We gotta move away from the top end of 40M, in my opinion. Too much noise for QRP.
Worked W1LY on his virgin uBITX - still haven't put mine together!?

Re: Maximum safe input voltage to ubitx?

John

Hello Paul,

I asked myself the same question and poking around the datasheets I believe that 15V for the main board should be the absolute maximum, with some precautions.

The reason being is that the audio amplifier absolute voltage limit is 15V. I think all the other components can handle the 15V voltage.

This assumes of course that the 5V regulator on the raduino has a heatsink and better also a series resistor to limit it power dissipation.

Before I changed the finals to RD16HHF1s, I added a 12V LM7812 regulator for the main board supply, and fed the IRF510 finals directly with the 16.8V from the 4S lithium battery.?

That way you have a maximum voltage for your finals and a safe one for your main board.

With the 12V regulator you only need a heatsink on the raduino 5V regulator (no series resistor) as the heat dissipation is more reasonable.

Perhaps you need to search for "relimate connector". You get male and female? connectors. You need to specify pitch and number of pins.

Maximum safe input voltage to ubitx?

What is the maximum safe input voltage to ubitx?? I have
Lithion ion batteries that charge up to 4.2 volt at most, and
I hoped to put four in a pack which could max out at 16.8 volts
and the pack is good for about 2300 maH.

thanks,

Hi!

For high power RF work I would be more concerned with the Tan Theta or the dissipation factor of the capacitor.
