I poped the little regulator on a Nano. I always power them now from a TO220 Big regulator. In parallel with whats in Nano? That may not be nice, but works for me? I don't use the raw input anymore.

Actually, I don't think it will have any effect on the computer usb port. The reason it would not harm the usb port is defined in the Arduino Nano schematic... Look at the schematic -

Your BITX 20 board looks very nice.?? If you are hearing a whistling sound on receive, your audio amplifier might be oscillating.? Check the grounding on the LM386.? One other thing I notice from
