Hi all,
Sorry i was not very clear in my initial report. hamskey.com continues to be alive and well (and if anything were to happen to it, we could always get to it at the waybakcmachine.com ;-)?
The specific issue is with a little know functionality of KD8CEC and his uBITX Data manager.? If you go to the "configuration" page in his software, there is a button somewhere that says "BACKUP". If you click that button, it brings up a QR Code that you can scan on your phone. This will backup your? configuration under your call sign at Dr. Lee's website. And then later, when you run uBITX Data Manager, after you read your eeprom, there is an option to restore from web (on right ab out middle of page, just below restore "Factor Defaults")
Apparently this service is down. When you scan the QR Code, you get the infamoust "cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server". And if you try to access your historical backups from within the uBITX Data Manager, the program gets terminated on Windows with one of those "Abort or Conitnue at your risk Message". And then it dies...
This is not a big issue, it is a little gimmicky and I am not big on a privately available service storing my data, even if it is basically pretty useless data. The best practice IMO is to still backup your configuration to your local computer (and back that up regularly too -)?
This is probably just only benign neglect.??
