I just picked up a second one an am trying some other mods - minimally a Sotabeams DSP to see how it compares to the Hi-Per-Mite filter. ?The DSP has an LED for when you are in the passband, so it may eliminate the need for a zero beat indicator, and an audio limiter may be less important. ?While I wait for the DSP, I cut the trace from the volume control to the audio amp and installed headers so that I can easily plug the DSP in (in the meantime, I installed a jumper). ?Unlike the Hit-Per-Mite, it requires audio amplication on the output.
The N8ME firmware is a huge improvement over the stock, at least on CW. ?I was going to install a Nextion display but I'm not sure I want to - the N8ME is great, and I don't see that the Nextion setup adds much other than a fancier (and maybe harder to use) display.
