As a victim of the US public education system, I can look at metric measurements and have no earthly idea how big something is without a calculation that involves dividing a yardstick (36 inches long) into a 1,000 equal-length pieces, then multiplying it by the -# of mm to get size in inches...
For example, 265 mm is about 250 mm, which is 1/4th of a yardstick, or about 8", and 145 mm is about 125 mm, which is about 1/8th of a yardstick, or about 4-5", give or take.
